Boy spends $2,000 on mother's debit card playing XBox online, guess who she blames

amazing how it got to $2k without her monitoring, I’d say the kid knew what he was doing. Surely he knew that all the shit he was getting just wasn’t a coincidence…

They post on SRK, so the answer to this should be obvious.

Hugh Mad.

You JUST got my "Unreall’s Award for most useful post of the day"
I have a credit card account that I killed like 3-4 years ago STILL on my damn account.

Yeah XBL is shady though, you can’t remove all your credit cards - they gotta keep one on file, which i think is BS.

also they auto-renew 12 month subscriptions without telling you about it.

“They” includes you since you post as well. Slipped your mind I daresay?

Tech Romancer.

I think that both of them are at fault. Mom needs to take some responsibility over her kid. The kid knows he did wrong because everything in XBL comes with a price…

How the hell didn’t she notice that he spent that much money in such a long period?

That little bastard would still be running for his life.

‘Britain’s worst mother’ Wendy Paduch abandons children for Tunisian waiter | Mail Online The mom should just do this next time.

she should’ve used one of the month(s) cards. I take it he doesn’t have it anymore,eh?! :stuck_out_tongue:

Isn’t that boy Antonio Ortiz?

I was actually a fucking amazing kid at 11. I didn’t fully comprehend everything about money, but I understood that shit isn’t free.

I have the same issue. I don’t like that they charged all that money for fucking gamerpics and themes, which I would waste the remainder of my points cards on, then they update the fucking dashboard, and all my themes are useless, and I can take free gamerpics of whatever I want. Hell, I can’t re-download Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, because Midway is gone, even though I’ve already paid for it.

So can I get my moneys back?

What? I get emails announcing the renewal of my subscription 1 month in advance.

Signed,
Everybody

At least she’s not suing. But damn, that kid needs to put down the controller anyway.

Yet you’ve got an xbox, a flatscreen tv, leather furniture and apparently don’t look at your credit card / bank card transactions…

Why give him Xbox live in the first play, the kids 11 years old. At his age I had a Genesis and dial up, if I wanted to play games with a friend I’d invite them over or go over to their place.

Looking at how chubby the youth is she shouldn’t be giving him any reason to stay in the house in any event.

Don’t pull the “the kid is (insert age) years old!” excuse. Your genesis is his Xbox360. That is a really stupid fucking argument and an even more stupid statement.

I wasn’t talking about him having a 360, I was talking about him having Xbox live which does not compare to me having a genesis age 11.

I will use his age to support my argument that his mum buying live for him was unnecessary. He isn’t old enough to use it in the first place, it is clear that he lacks the maturity and responsibility to use it and based on the fact that countless children from the 90s+ had a fun childhood without online game play it is not necessary.

And why isn’t he old enough? Because you said so? The problem here is that his mother put a credit card on the account. Which I’m still pretty sure is a requirement of Live. I can’t delete all of my credit cards off of Live. I tried. She could have looked into the parental controls and educated herself.

And jesus christ, of course he lacks maturity and responsibility all around, he’s fucking 11! The fact that children in the 90’s had fun with games without broadband is irrelevant since that was 20 fucking years ago. If you had an xbox 360 when you were 11 back in 1991 or whenever the fuck you were that old, you could have run into this too.

Your entire thought process behind whatever you’re trying to say is completely fucking flawed. That’s like some mother fucker from 1920 saying “Well, I never went 80 in my Model T Ford, so yeah, these kids shouldn’t be doing65 in their new fangled cars!”

I’m pretty sure the requirement age for using these things is 13? I could be wrong.

Which is why you don’t give an 11 year old child Xbox Live, why are you being so aggressive over the matter?

Gaming with broadband ( at least with consoles) has been common place for 5-6 years. If live was around when I was his age is irrelevant to what I said as my point focuses on the fact that kids have fun fulfilling childhoods without it. Society has not moved to the point where online gaming is the standard for the kids of today.

The fact that is not necessary for his childhood along with the fact that he lacks the maturity and responsibility to use it is why I am criticising her decision.

How is it like your analogy? It’d be more appropriate to say ‘‘I never went 65 in my T Ford, so yeah, these kids shouldn’t be doing 120mph in their new fangled cars’’ in which case the mother fucker from the 1920s would be correct. There are greater consequences with a child using live than a child not playing games online.

the kid has no excuse. when i was 11 i knew the value of money. sure, i was a horrible kid who went around pissing on peoples doors and mailboxes (long story). but hey guess what? my dad would beat the shit out of me if i got caught doing anything wrong. and like every kid at 11, at least ones who are not spoiled, i had to earn my money via doing chores. i was too poor to buy new games, so i always bought cheap ones at garage sales. i knew how hard i had to work for each new NES cartridge. yeah that’s right, our family was too poor to even afford to get me an SNES or Genesis. from what it sounds like, the xbox live ui clearly stipulates that you are about to complete a monetary transaction, so the kid can’t play dumb.

where i blame the mom is her response. i can understand her not knowing how to use technology and properly configure her live account. however, she needs to punish her kid, end of story. its obvious from this that she spoils her kid, and doesn’t hold him accountable for his actions. he needs to pay this back. doesn’t matter if it takes him until high school or college. he needs to learn the value of money and stop being such a spoiled shithead.

ehh simply put, the kid doesn’t know the value at all, but it’s up to the parent to teach him the value. I knew the importance of money by age eight. I was already saving some money by that time, so I knew what money was/value/etc. So it’s all on the mom.
