Boy spends $2,000 on mother's debit card playing XBox online, guess who she blames

Mummy sure made sure she looked sexy for that pic so you know she looking. Uk srkers get at that!!!

You can hit it, for a paltry 1000GBP.

I wonder how many of you were glorious fuck ups when you were 11.

Anyway, the article does say one thing that I think needs to be corrected and that is the fact that you have to jump through 15 hoops just to remove credit card info from Live. Further, I’m still of the belief that the no refunds policy on digital media is some what absurd. I’ve accidentally down loaded something via live that I already owned but it was bundled differently. So I paid for a piece of content twice. I called ms and they acknowledged the fact but basically told me it was too damn bad.

Anyway, I hope she can sort it out.

yo damn looking at the kid, lol

Them’s the breaks.
Keep a stiff law of "You DL. You buy."
And that keeps a lot of morons away from trying to screw the system with returns.

Well, I did dumbass things from time to time, that’s why my parents didn’t give me access to their credit cards. I got a set amount of money for doing extra chores, and I had to manage the money that I earned if I wanted to buy something. I do agree that it is really dumb that you can’t remove a credit card from live, but that is why I have never given Xbox a credit card. I also have accidentally bought the same thing on Xbox before, and I hate that you can buy the same thing packaged 3 different ways and each is considered a unique purchase.

It sad children have to be taught the value of money especially at ELEVEN years old… just reading that shit pissed me off… he knew exactly what he was doing…

If I had a son that did that shit at eleven, I’d fucking kill him…

EDIT: I mean seriously, has this nigga never been to the grocery store…

I mean just…

Is anyone else on board thinking how the hell does this kid even look 11? Looks like a fucking 14 year old Even Goldberg.

OC

when i was 11 i was saving up every nickel and dime to buy games for my…i think i had a saturn at the time, so yeah i knew the value of money. the only thing i think microsoft should do is ditch the stupid “points” bullshit. just put prices in actual dollars (and i guess pounds) bcuz i was expecting the excuse to be “he didn’t know that the points were actual money!”

Nobody, NOBODY, should be defending the mother in anyway.

The fat tubby bastard knew what the fuck he was doing.

My sister in law (she’s 6) got her moms phone and purchased like 200 dollars worth of games and apps. The little brat paid the price for that shit. My old mom-in-law didn’t try to dispute the charges or anything but we got stuck paying for it. hehe

Wow…wouldn’t this be some shit if this woman just allowed all this as part of some elaborate scheme to cast her dating net a little wider to find a man with money to take care of this mess, get closer to him, and have him take care of her for life?

Honestly xbl should ask you to punch in the card’s security code before they charge you for stuff on the market.

That’s not a bad idea imo. However the fact remains that there were security measures available to her that she never utilized, and she is arguing that Microsoft should show some responsibility.

@ Ronin - I never mentioned that I didn’t make screw ups when I was 11. However, my mom was responsible enough not to hand me her credit card/checkbook or leave it laying out, so my level of screwups were limited to things like sending in those BMG/Columbia House cards and asking them to bill me later. Definitely not $2000 worth of items. Maybe $50 tops, not enough to put her into a debt program.

As for XBL’s no refund stance - there should be a more lenient stance than no refunds. But even then, it wouldn’t give you a very long window of returnability - maybe 30 minutes to an hour tops, somewhere along the lines of the android market. The goal would be to prevent speed runners from getting free games I guess. But people could play a hard copy game, not like it, and outside of reselling it, they’re SOL. Shouldn’t be any different with DLC, minus the fact that you can’t exactly resell it.

In the case of buying the wrong DLC, buying the same DLC, there should be a customer recovery guideline for this.

Everybody

when i was 11 i knew damn well what money was and how it should be handled. i’d know exactly what i was doing if i spent 1,000 bucks of my mother’s money.

the kid probably knew it too, but is playing dumb to avoid getting in trouble, and his over protective mother believes him

Come on. It’s this stupid lady’s fault for not monitoring her accounts. Had she, she would’ve seen all of the charges before they go so high. She’s basically calling her kid an idiot by by stating that he was ignorant of what he was doing.

If the kid is so dumb, I’m sure she set the account up and designated it an 18+ account. Otherwise, how was the kid able to just charge the card?

Exctly, the kid knew damn well he was spending his mom’s money.

This.

And why the fudge does the kid have a controller in his hand after that? Let my son rack up a bill like that…he won’t be on a video game console even for PRESS. He won’t be allowed within a 50 foot radius of an LCD screen or hardrive. Yes, that means not even tomaguchis are allowed. He can play POG at that point…using his own money to buy slammers, and cutting the pogs themselves out of cheerio boxes.

Actually you can do it in less than 3 minutes now. Hope on the interwebs, log into your account, navigate to account management and click on edit payment options. You can remove your CC right there. I remember in the past it was a bitch, but now its MUCH simpler.

Why would they? The whole point of a credit card is to get you to spend money without even thinking. Handing someone a few hundred bucks in cash makes you realize what you’re doing. Swiping a card and signing a bill doesn’t have that same feeling and you purchase more without the same thought process that you’d have if you actually saw your money disappearing. XBL makes it even easier in that your information is already recorded. Just press a few buttons and you get what you want.
