either you love it or hate it. My opinion is that this is a “money” fight and a physical mis-match. It goes against the creation of weightclasses. But, I can’t deny the star power of this fight and like all boxing fans that are on the negative side of this match-up up, we’ll probably order the PPV anyways because it’s too big to miss out.
I think this fight will go the distance. Oscar can only win this fight by knockout or face the wrath of the boxing crtics and the boxing fans that paid $55 a pop to see him.
Man, this is gonna be a pretty interesting day. My Gators play for the SEC Championship at 4 then the De La Hoya fight later on tonight. Who else is on the card for this one?
I am in a toss up with Pac vs. DLH. I can’t say I’d be surprised if Pac loses to someone who is much bigger than he is, but will be overjoyed if he does.
no idea who’s gonna win this fight. safe money is on DLH…i guess? this is definitely gonna be one of those fights were everything will be revealed after the first round. if pac can come up and show that he was able to bring his power up to 147 then he’ll win, but if DLH gets in there and just starts pushing him around and can walk thru pac’s punches then i’ll know not to go home tonight bcuz all of my flip neighbors will be rioting.
the undercard tonight is typical in script: showcase or tune-up.
Daniel Jacobs vs. Victor Lares, 8 rounds, super middleweights
who to look out for: Daniel Jacobs nicknamed “the golden child”. he is being promoted as the “next big thing” for american boxing. this is a showcase. he turned pro just one year ago on the undercard of Mayweather vs. Hatton.
Victor Ortiz vs. Jeff Resto, 12 rounds, junior welterweights
Showcase of Victor Ortiz.
Juan Manuel Lopez vs. Sergio Medina, 12 rounds, for Lopez’s WBO junior featherweight title. This might be the most competitive fight of the “entire” card.
Juan Manuel Lopez is a rising star and is in one of the most exciting division in all of boxing (122). He has big plans in 2009 if he wins this fight. Israel Vazquez (WBC) said on record to a fight with JM Lopez and that fight would continue the on going war between Mexico and Puerto Rico. Celestino Caballero ( IBF, WBO) is a very tall 5’11" fighter and he is coming off a beatdown of Canada’s best fighter.
de la Hoya vs. Pacquiao
the winner will most likely fight Ricky Hatton. Depending on how good Pacquiao performs in a win or loss, I’d like to see Pac against Hatton more so then Oscar fighting “another” small guy in Ricky Hatton.
Wow, looking at the weigh-in photos and the size difference isn’t as bad as I thought. Oscar probably actually came in about 18 pounds heavier when he fought Floyd.
thats the same thing I thought when I was watching the weigh-in. But Pacquiao’s chin has been tested well against featherweights (122, 126, 130), not welterweights. this reminds me of Kelly Pavlik going up two weight classes to fight Bernard Hopkins. It didn’t go so well for Pavlik.
going through the scenarios in my head, Oscar has never been a “warrior”. He couldn’t knockout a smaller Steve Forbes in his last fight. I think Oscar will fight a safety fight, pumping out the jab and fighting tall. he has shown not to take chances, even in the Mayweather fight, Oscar didn’t fight like he had nothing to lose.
He’s been quoted on radio saying that a KO is in order.
So it’s pretty much him going toe to toe with the best brawler in the business and trying to earn the respect of the Mexican community; guess it’s time to go out like a bitch.
