The Cotto camp sent Miguel’s lead sparring partner Henry Bruseles to see how Miguel might do and they pretty much scrapped the idea after Floyd toyed with the guy hitting him at will. That was the fight where Floyd shouted his Super Bowl prediction in the middle of the round when Jim Lampley mentioned it, yelled out exactly how many jabs he threw when one of the commentators said something to the effect of “Floyd’s landed several/numerous jabs,” and crip walked across the ring after knocking the guy down.
One last thing about the boxing media. These boxing writers, outlets, websites are all hardcore fans, just like boxing fans. More so then other sports, boxing writers show a lot of biased/ partisan opinion. Like Manny Steward’s and Larry Marchent’s comments toward Floyd Mayweather in his last three fights. HBO and boxing media are biased towards the “face first brawler” and usually shit on prue boxers because they are “boring”. That doesn’t sound fair for fighters. It’s like if a fighter doesn’t fight face first and thow a bunch of punches, he won’t go anywhere. Thats the recent media spin job with the “eight million” and retiring/ ducking talk.
And Marquez is gonna fuck up Casamayor. That robbery still pisses me off.
actually yeah that’s probably a more unbiased, real way of looking at it. if you can take a lot of punishment, yet still win fights then the media will love you.
in hajime no ippo they call that guts…or the spirit of a fighter. i dunno how true that manga reflects the japanese boxing society but i feel it may reflect a big bit of japan since all their media kinda revolves around that line of thinking.

^ Arturo Gatti was more often than not bleeding like a broad on her period before the first round was over. I felt sorry for him because he was pretty damn good aside from that.
When you understand how much permanent damage a single concussion can do it seems completely ridiculous to say someone needs to “get in a war,” “take 2 to give 1,” “isn’t a REAL fighter.” Most fighters that fight that way have to rather than want to. Most of them wish they could avoid punishment like Mayweather - I mean seriously who wants to get punched in the face while simultaneously being exhausted.

So I just watched Margarito/Cotto. Great fight, and I was giving it to Cotto despite my eternal allegiance to Mexico. I like Miguelito a lot, but he sure brought out the best in Margarito. Even past the 6th round Cotto was landing some amazing shots with his back against the ropes. Says a lot about both fighters.

His fight with De La Hoya and Baldomir was pure torture to me as well. His performance against Gatti was excellent and his fight with Hatton gained in excitement when he finally stopped him with that left hook.
These things only tell half truths. He turned down Margarito as he wanted to fight De La Hoya at the time, De La Hoya was unavailable for whatever reason so he took on Baldomir he was linear champ at the time. Still earning 8 mil for that fight.
If Zab Judah didn’t fuck up against Baldomir Floyd would have fought the somewhat top man in the Welterweight, Zab judah just lost his tune up match.
Floyd would outbox Margarito and beat him. Nothing from his performance suggests to me that he could beat Floyd. Floyd for one has a better chin than Cotto, he is much better at blocking shots from the inside and evading on the out.
