Been sparring a lot lately and I see I have the same problem in this as fighting games. I like to block too much. The good thing is I cant take a lot of punches. The instructors say I have heart, speed, and power which sounds like everything but when I get into the ring I just cant apply what I learned correctly. Not when the opponent bum rushes forward. In my head Im like, “Just move to the eside and give him a 1,2” but it never works like that.
So I guess Im not sure if I should just keep working basics for the next few months until it becomes second nature and then spar or if I should keep sparring to get experience sooner.
Do both, you still need to hone your technique but if you don’t spar you won’t know how to apply anything and you will be in the same situation that you’re in now.
Eventually you’ll get used to people coming at you and react accordingly.
Im just afraid to get into bad habits if I spar too much before I train enough. I thought I trained a LOT. But apparently not enough to bring it to the ring.
No matter how much shadow boxing, pad and bag work you do you will still be shocked when you step in the ring as you have to apply what you know against a moving target that’s hitting you back. Not trying to glorify the sport or anything but there is a unique pressure when you step in the ring with someone.
I’ll defo catch this fight, gonna end up fucked for in ( live in the UK) then again I’ve been sleeping at 7am so it probably won’t make a difference.
And yeah, its funny how similar boxing is to fighting games. Theres even real life block strings lol. I think my biggest problem I’m too timid. I keep “poking” with my jabs while moving left and right; up and down; forward and back and not doing enough combinations. Even when they are blocking I need to follow up but for whatever reason I just don’t. I also forget to move my head left and right when they pressure me. So I end up just taking the punches a lot. I can take it, but I should be trying to avoid more
So stoked for tomorrow. I can’t say that I actually have a personal fav in this one, but I think that Cotto is gonna take this one home. I’ll be happy for whoever wins, but I just don’t think that the Pac-Man is gonna walk away from this one a winner. Good luck to both men!
That would be great man. Maybe one of these weekends I will have to. I think Im going to take on a less defensive style for now just to keep me loose. Maybe more like Herns or something.
I can see that happening. KO is probably Cotto’s best chance at winning. Predictions will be tough in this fight, though. This is an insane matchup. I can’t wait!
Cool thing with Pacquiao is even though he’s not the underdog and he’s some kind of superstar, he has proven himself this far enough that even if he loses its understandable. I want him to win, but at the same time its really hard for anybody to keep a win streak like that. Even if he loses this one, which I dont think will happen, he will probably win the next one. He’s just really good all around.
hahaha I was skeptical of Pacquiao in his first couple of “famous years.” The filipino culture has a tendacy of A) hating each other for whatever reason or the opposite B) getting all invested and sucking up to any kind of Filipino who is half famous.
I didnt believe the hype at first but damn Pacquiao really proved something and Im definitely a fan. I know if he loses though itll let a lot of filipinos down. He pretty much owns the country over there.
