I think you guys are looking at it all wrong. This game is like mmo PvP meets Team Fortress 2. It is definitely a class-based versus game. There is no locking on…everything has hitboxes and they must collide for something to happen. Strategy plays a huge part and you’ll want to have teamspeak if you are going to play in the tournies/ladder/whatever. Also, characters within a type (melee, range, heal, tank) are similar enough that they can be played in the same strategy, but different enough to meet many playstyles.
EDIT: Yes, I can assume all this after only 1 day of playing.
EDIT II: xSAMURAIx, you really need to change the title as it doesn’t accurately describe the game. It is in no way RPG. It should say something more like how I described it in the second sentence (but you don’t have to copy that…just saying).
I’ll tell you one thing though…the community for this game sucks. Even in random public games…everyone expects you to be a pro. I’ve only played 2 days, and I am constantly being griefed for sucking…which isn’t my fault…I just started. People are dogging me for not using such-and-such strategy, but I don’t know the deeper strategies yet. It’s crazy how unfriendly some people can be.
It seems that no one really cares about this game, but just in-case. The beta is open from Thursday morning (today) until Tuesday morning this week. Normally the beta is only open from Friday morning till Tuesday morning. There was a balancing/bug fix patch today (they do one every 2 weeks…just trying to hit that sweet spot). Also, they gave out Friend Invites to EVERYONE and sent out a whole bunch of Invites to people who had applied.
I know xSAMURAIx said he had extra invites.
P.S. I know…double post…oh noes. Won’t do it again.
It’s not like an MMO in the way that you do not walk around, no point-and-click gameplay, no level up, etc. Basically, there is a lobby that you start in and can create/join games from there (think diablo II battle.net). After you join a game, you choose your character out of 16 characters (characters are like early Team Fortress 2 static classes) and wait for everyone to “ready” up. Matches start with a countdown and you play first to 4 or 5 wins. The game is balanced around 3v3 deathmatch, but supports up to 5v5. All the maps are mostly symmetrical (if not completely).
All characters have 5 Moves and a Special. At least 2 of the moves are usually defensive (even more on a Healer-type). Almost all moves have start-up (usually less than a second) and shoot/swipe in the direction your mouse is pointing, but there are move-specific max ranges. AoE status effect moves appear at your pointer. You can also hold Shift in order to make the move effect yourself. After you use a move, there is a global cooldown of .2~.3 seconds (which some defensive moves ignore) to make sure that you cannot spam attacks too much. All moves also have their own cooldown (usually left-click moves have the same cool down as global so that they can be used as your staple attack). You have a special meter that fills as you attack. Once it is full, then you can do your special move.
Positioning and aiming take a good amount of skill/knowledge. The classes are mostly balanced. I’ve seen healers beat tanks, melee, and range in 1v1 and the other way around. Knowing your own moves and guessing what your opponent will do can swing the favor of the game.
I’m so bad then again I only played like 10 games. Harbinger’s M1 is great but the 2 moves with hemorrhage have 7 n 9 second cooldowns making M1 kinda meh without it.
I don’t see how can people think crits are just random elements. You have a crit rating and whatever % of the total damage you do will be crits. Plain, simple. Nothing random about it other than that it can potentially happen on any attack.
Also, you lied when you said there’s no man or energy.
So far, it looks pretty cool. I’ll check it out and sign up for beta when I get home.
Total crit damage is not random over large amounts of trials, but whether a crit procs or not is chance. For instance, over 100 battles you might average your % of crit, but that could be through getting 0 crits one match and getting 15 crits in the next. Saying crits aren’t chance is like saying coin flips aren’t chance…one “crit” or “no crit” has no bearing on the next attack’s crit %. Also, there is a difference between random and chance. BLC is not going to have either.
There is no mana in this game. The Energy meter is your super meter. It fills from landing attacks. Once you have it full, then you can do a super.
Signing up for the beta. Looks intriguing. It’s like if Dr. B designed the perfect WoW arena system, then toned back a bit because looking at perfection would drive us mad like Spock in that one episode of classic Trek where he accidentally looked at the thing he wasn’t supposed to after breaking the mind meld with it.
People really need to get into this. It’s an overhead arena based pvp game with classes that have different move sets. There are ex moves, which are powered up versions of other moves and ultimate’s that you build off of owning people. This game is ridiculously good and people need to give it a chance. No it’s nothing like an mmo, its straight up pvp matches that last no longer than 2 minutes.
Add me if you need help learning or are interested in playing (sao87), this game has a lot of potential tournament wise, SO TRY IT OUT! :woot:
This game is in open beta now. The game is being published by Funcom. This is fine except for the fact that I can no longer have my account name because someone already has a Funcom account with that name.
Also, they already have an expansion planned for release day?
