Aaaand killed me a Logarius. A fun boss fight! Lots of interesting little quirks to figure out. And another case of winning not by getting better at the initial strategy, but at also changing up the strategy a bit.
[details=Spoiler]I’m speaking, mainly, of when he plants his sword in the ground and uses it as a non-stop projectile spewer.
Initially my response was to go to the other end of the arena and hide behind the small towers. But those projectiles fly all over the dang place, and it was REALLY hard to stay out of their range.
So I thought, “wait, what if I can destroy it?” And lo and behold, timing it right with mah whip means basically a free hit on Log as well. Funny how the fight went from “oh shit he’s putting it down” to “oh hell yeah keep doing that old man”.[/details]
Kinda sad that I missed Cainhurst on my first playthrough, but it was a decent enough challenge in NG+. Logarius could maul away my entire lifebar in one of his longer combos, so I don’t feel cheated out of a challenge.
Welp returned my bros PS4. Time to go back to Lordran.
Give me some ideas for a build guys. Looking to do something more magic centric since I;ve not fucked around too much with magic in DS1. I’ve done Miracles but not Soul Magic. Looking for something fun and interesting.
Two out of three covenants unlocked. God DAMN, Alfred! A bit bloodthirsty there?
Hey, about his quest ending…
[details=Spoiler]So you find his body back in the church where you first encountered him, near the entrance to Old Yharnam. He seems to have brought a second Illusionary Crown with him back to the altar. Weird, because I still have mine in my inventory, and Logarius was guarding his like it was unique.
I guess it wouldn’t be unheard of for there to be more than one crown, since the Vilebloods are supposed to have been numerous.
PS: Yes, I also got the queenly flesh and I know what to do with it. THAT explains that altar in my blind run, where I thought I might have locked away an opportunity by attacking the big ol’ brain-thing-boss on it.[/details]
Having now put some time into the weapons of this game, I think one of the problems I have is that I don’t like any other weapon anywhere near as much as the Threaded Cane, and that was the first one I used!
So I’ve finished NG++ & the dungeons with a SKL/ Cane character, and NG on a STR/ Saw character (didn’t like the Saw at all…). I’ve not really hot a huge itch to replay the game right now - SotFS is still sat there calling to me - but I feel like I should do at least one more run (still haven’t done any co-op in BB - haven’t played online, even - and that was always my favourite part! :)).
So what do you reckon? Bloodtinge or Arcane?
Last time I messed with Magic I did a pure INT build (with an Enchanted Longsword to start, I think). If nothing else, it reminds you what a dick move it is to put all the INT upgrade material in an area where everything is resistant to magic.
Once I had the Moonlight Greatsword I used that & spells, and enjoyed it so much I took it through NG+ (you don’t get the MG until late)…
Arcane is pretty fun in NG, you can nuke a good amount of the bosses but you need to make a beeline to get your spells quick, and until you do you’ll be really underpowered.
BT builds are Chikage and Evelyn, which is cool and really powerful, but that’s all you have.
Yeah 50/25 and 25/50 are both pretty fun actually. The former just has ARC as support while the latter has spell combos and melee as support and pressure.
I don’t have much advice for you on Magic builds in DS1, unfortunately. There’s just a ton more you can do with a sorcerer in Dark Souls II. You could build around the Moonlight Greatsword, or just pump levels into Faith and Intelligence and purely use spells and magic, which in my experience even that is pretty fun and challenging. But, if it’s any consolation, I would definitely recommend looking into a Bleed playthrough as it’s probably the most fun I’ve had with a character in Dark Souls 1. Light to medium armor, lots of rolling, precise and calculated hits, and killing high health enemies with just 3 or 4 hits from a dagger is just too good of a feeling. I mean Priscilla’s dagger starts feeling pretty damn broken once you start getting that DEX up. Hell, the Scythe works wonders as well. You’d pretty much be using that dagger for the duration of the game and still feel powerful as fuck. It has to be top three bleed weapons EVER at the very least.
Focus on DEX, END and VIT and that’s pretty much all you have to worry about. The concept of the build plays upon a lot of Souls fundamentals, which is what makes it so satisfying and fun.
Yeah, SKL/ARC playthrough is the first build I tried. So much fun that I have a hard time believing I’ll like anything more than it. I pretty much just wanted to make use of all the Arcane weapons, and the Rifle Spear was all I used so it was perfect. Then I got the Burial Blade and it just fit like a glove over my stats. Pretty much pumping into Arcane now for Call of The Beyond and the damage bonus.
