If you didn’t understand that a block button option would completely derail a game like Skullgirls you obviously have absolutely no fucking idea what you’re talking about, contrary to your apparent ‘veteran gamer’ status. Someone blam this shit so others don’t have to have their brains rotted.
Have you…even played a fighting game recently besides MK9?
Holding back to block is a crucial component of most fighters. You’re just going to have to get used to it. If a button was used to do all the blocking for you, there wouldn’t be the element of mixups really. Which is a reason why I hate MK9 kind of. I always find myself holding back to block, and I get punished severely. If you want to play games like that, then I suggest you stick to 3D fighters or something.
However, if you *are *actually willing to challenge yourself, then you’re just going to have to suck it up like everyone else. Learning how to block high, low, and in different directions will ultimately make you a better player in the long run. I think you’re going to have a hard time getting by in the FG community if you can’t perform this basic function at least semi-adequately.
Personally, I am still waiting for the fighting genre to finally wise up and remove blocking entirely.
Why would anyone even want blocking in their game?! It’s boring and it encourages stupid, turtle-y gameplay. Um, YAWN.
It’s so obvious. Just think about what makes fighting games exciting in the first place: somebody just staying still and blocking nonstop, or somebody hitting with AMAZING combos? See, the answer is obvious.
Unblockable setups and high-percentage mixups have been a great step in the right direction, but I think it’s about high time that developers finally got a clue and eliminated the root of the problem altogether. And it’s especially stupid that players had to invent those things for themselves anyway!!! It just goes to show how lazy the developers really are. Fighting games as a whole are never going to start evolving until they actually fix such basic things that are wrong with the genre.
…
you’re actually suggesting a block button that doesnt block unless you register the direction as well? so if i want to block low i have to do downback+ block?
why the extra button that adds nothing but being a nuisance? What about grabs? will you be able to fully avoid them just holding the block button to stay in blockstun? and dont say it’ll be like Smash where you can grab mid-blockstun coz that’ll be broken as shit…
my head hurts from reading all the stupidity here >_<
if you don’t like blocking why not just become so godlike in spacing that you cannot get hit?
