If people have to use an alternate input method like KB&M on PS4 doesn’t that imply that traditional aiming sucks? Also I thought Bliz considered that cheating.

How strong is OW aim assist compared to other shooters anyway?

I actually played her last night. She’s way more fun to use now and actually feels like a better character. She’s no more ducking behind and waiting for res basically. Her ult is super good and being able to res someone every 30 seconds feels OP.

I love this new mercy

If people have to use an alternative method on console it just means they suck with a controller.

Also the aim assist is as strong as you do or don’t want it to be. In the controls you can set the aim assist strength(how hard it pulls your crosshair), the aim assist window(how far away it starts pulling), and recently they added the aim smoothing option which eliminates the delay between when you touch the stick and when your aim starts to move. In addition to that, they’ve given 3 different aiming input behaviors: Exponential Ramp(the classic method in most FPS games), Dual zone(where the inner 90% of the analog area is the same sensitivity, but the outer 10% is much faster), and Linear Ramp(where the game makes absolutely no corrections on what your analog does. It’s raw input and is extremely hard to aim with unless you spend a ton of time fine tuning.

They’ve gone through a ton of hoops to give console players a myriad of options for making playing with a controller feel as good as possible. If you run KBM on console you’re just a bitch. If you NEED KBM to play an FPS, go hang out on PC where you don’t have an advantage because of your input choice.

Don’t forget that KBM technically isn’t allowed on console overwatch, and is only possible through third party adapters that cost in the $100 range. So not only are you playing KBM on console, you’re also doing it with aim assist.

Blizzard doesn’t approve of it but they’ve banned exactly zero people for it and tournaments aren’t held on console.

It’s obvious a mouse is better than a thumbstick for aiming but that doesn’t mean that some people that use thumbsticks aren’t insanely accurate with them.

The aim assist is mostly slowdown so you don’t overshoot your target, it does noticeably twitch sometimes though. You can adjust it. You can massively tweak the aim options on console. You can play lineally like a mouse, you can play with exponential ramp so it speeds up the longer you hold down a certain direction, you can play dual zone with low sensitivity in the middle and high at the edges. You can tweak everything and put different aim settings on different characters.

It’s not OP because people dying a lot of the time leads to a snowball effect. It’s great for stopping random picks but in teamfights when combos are going off it’s not OP at all.

Even if you can be good with a controller (as with any control method if you trained long enough), the fact KB+M is so popular at higher ranks on console, that is considered by the console community and Blizzard as cheating and that they don’t want to add cross-play between PC & console because it would be unfair to console players still proves that KB+M is way more efficient as a control method for this game and shooters in general.
The lower skill floor (aiming with mouse is just more comfortable and natural) allows player earlier on to struggle less with aiming and focus more on developing game sense, as well as stimulate aiming skills because you’ll face earlier people who can actually kill you if you don’t line your shots. And the high precision of mouse aiming just gives KB+M a higher skill ceiling compared to any controller.

When I ask how strong the aim assist is, I meant in comparison to other game. Like when I play Titanfall 2 on Xbox the aim assist is way stronger than in OW.

And I properly explained it you

I’ll do it again while utilizing less brain cells

Aim help at 100 pull aim thing a lot
Aim help at 0 no pull aim thing at all

I’ve never seen a game pull crosshairs as hard as overwatch does while at 100

Actually it just occurred to me that I’m thinking about ADS. My bad.

They already nerfed D.va’s missile damage on PTR. Now it does 162 damage max (and 108 self damage), i.e. 3 direct hit + 6 splash damage per rocket.
Doomfist’s Rocket Punch can also only travel 15m forward instead of 20m when he’s in the air.

Yeah, but considering you can still be firing when they go off, it’s still likely to be pretty good.

I still think this community is cancerous as fuck.

I have to admit, this is one of the few games where sometimes you literally just KNOW you’ve lost, at the character select screen.

I had 4 gold medals earlier today in a match, using Doomfist. Shitty Genji with no kills demands I change, because “Doomfist isn’t working.” I point out that I have gold kills, damage, objective kills, and objective time. He instantly goes into match chat to ask that I get reported for throwing the game.

This game will never stop making me wish I could invent a way to e-mail my boot to your ass.

It usually means they simply have a preferred input method. You dont HAVE to do it, kinda like pad and stick.

Not saying it’s a 1:1 comparison before anyone gets cheeky.

I know you said it’s not a 1:1 comparison but it’s also not really comparable at all. Choosing between pad and stick is pretty much completely personal preference. Where as KBM vs controller isn’t even a debate. KBM is straight up more accurate than controller, and using it in a setting where everyone else is using controller provides a distinct advantage.

The point was that you can be really fucking good with either of them, it’s your choice, way to be a pedantic jackass.

Some people have only ever played FPS on console and are far more accurate with sticks. Some people are naturals at aiming with them.

Yes keyboard and mouse is better if we’re looking at things in a void but that doesn’t change the fact that top level players are incredibly accurate on console. I don’t care what bronze/silver scrubs are doing. They’re worse than bots. I’m not a DPS main and I’ve wrecked them on both consoles playing smurfs.

Even low level players aim well enough to kill you unless they’re the worst of the worst and they’re just as bad on PC. I don’t know what you’re on about with skill ceiling either. Watch MLG CoD, watch their accuracy, that’s with Xbox analog sticks.

I don’t care how good pro CoD players are, mouse aiming simply allows for dramatically more precision than analog sticks. You’re using your arms, wrist and fingers to aim where analog aiming uses only one thumb. The control you have over your camera movement is way superior when you move a mouse over a big pad with all those muscle compared to micromoving a small stick with spring resistance with only one muscle, I don’t know what’s even to argue about that. You can almost indefinitely expand your precision by buying bigger mousepads and using lower sens; you can’t do that on pad.
I mean there are surely people who learned to type really fast with their noses only on a tablet screen, but it doesn’t change the fact that typing on a keyboard with 10 fingers will likely allow you to type way faster.

Man no one is arguing that mouse aiming is not good. All I’m saying and all anyone is saying that plenty of people on console can aim. They aim quickly and accurately. You’re absolutely delusional if you think otherwise.
