(Yeah, we’d probably be on “Karin’s shinigami in training adventures with guest cameos by Hitsugaya!” filler by now. That or “something only Ichigo can stop shows up again!” filler.
…Shit. I actually kind of want to see the former now…)
…This chapter was…actually rathergreat. I was going to come in here before the break and tell Sanford specifically that I couldn’t get hype for Unohana knowing that Kubo will fuck it up somehow. Then last chapter turned out to be so stereotypical as to be sponsored by BET, so I just said “fuck it” and waited for the Golden Week stuff to end.
But this chapter actually got me…hyped, even if it’s kinda fucked up narratively, partly for reasons that Ragnorok pointed out. Azrael’s post has me wondering what the fuck Unohana could have done to be worse than Aizen or even just Mayuri though.
Also, speaking of Dark Phoenix’s stereotypical-ness, I do find it darkly hilarious that in his brief cameo this chapter he’s essentially presented as a keeper of would-be-slaves who are usually mistreated by their shinigami masters. Well, that and the “he acts like a materialistic, foolish pimp to overcompensate for growing up dirt poor” from last was pretty much Truth in Television Manga.
(Also, I realized something: If “talking backward” is so swag in Japanese, then he probably didn’t say anything when Zero Squadron arrived since he was busy fangirling over Shinji, Swaggest Motherfucker in Existence, in the background.)
Haha. It’s even funnier when you think realize Unohana is basically the closest thing Zaraki has to a “love” interest since she’s only person besides maybe Yamamoto or his subordinates that he’s canonically confirmed to respect. So this is basically a reversal/an inversion of the whole “Brainwashed & Crazy”/“I Know You’re In There Somewhere Fight” thing with him having/getting to finally fight her true personality.
I’ll lol if the “death” thing ends up being that she gets truly gets domesticated because the “True” Kenpachi surpasses her, which would be along the lines of the “Get Back in the Kitchen” powers Kubo decided to give Hikifune, who is still the only confirmed female member of Zero Squadron at present.
I’ll laugh harder if Unohana kills his ass and then has to revive him though.
Hey, someone else here reads Shortpacked (or Dumbing of Age). Good to know.
And no one would think you’re trying to turn into Willis unless every time you posted, you started to post male-on-male pictures of Bleach…that you drew.
Lol. You say that like it’s surprising when this is the same Gotei 13 that still currently employs Mayuri, who is basically Spirit Josef Mengele for what he did to the Quincy. Seriously, Mayuri was never even punished for needlessly blowing up his own underlings for no reason despite the fact that it’s still implied that basically everyone else under him still has bombs in them.
There’s a reason a bunch of people see the Gotei 13 as a “lesser evil” than as out-and-out “good guys” and even the “lesser” part is arguable, to the point where some people had valid arguments that Aizen was the actual good guy. (At least before it was revealed about what he did to Wonderweiss and what he did to Momo during the Winter War.)
Edits of what, out of curiosity?
Nah. This seems to be under the execution site, while Aizen seems like he was/is imprisoned underneath the first Squadron’s HQ. Or, at least, what was the first Squadron’s HQ before Bach blew it the fuck up before he effortlessly (disem)bodied Old Man Genocide. I think the two places are relatively close to each other, but not exactly the same place.
If they are part of the same place, then Aizen’s above them given how “far down” they supposedly are. Like Muff said, Unohana & Kenpachi are so “bad” they’re under the jail.
Same here.
Meh. I’m pretty jaded with most “eye scream”/eye-based horror stuff and, personally, I was way more interested that Kubo was finally fleshing out a central concept of his ill-defined universe after a decade.
What movie is that from though?
