Unlike the Komamura thing, I actually expected all this out-pouring of hype as soon as I saw that last panel. If it wasn’t for the fact that we haven’t seen like half of the Captains–including Aizen and Shinji’s–Bankai yet or seen Unohana do anything, then I would argue that Bleach just “Jumped the Shark.”
Which is funny, because at the same time I’d probably still argue it did that with the whole Soul Society Arc leading into…Hueco Mundo’s forever-ness.

That said, I will openly appreciate that Kubo indeed foreshadowed this quite a while ago, especially after a bunch of other things he’s done lately that I’d say were “ass-pulls” whether I liked them or not. (coughChoujirou’s Bankaicough)
I think it’s been a while since one of these long foreshadowed things, like Shinji’s shikai’s abilities or the Soul King being shady, came to fruition.
So then his Bankai release command is going to be “Make all enemies burst into three rib cages, Friendship Again”?

I’m not sure why you’re asking me, but the only Espada-level Arrancars that are still alive to my knowledge are Nel & Harribel (confirmed) and Grimmjow (basically all but confirmed with how heavily it’s been implied). Some of the lesser Arrancar like Harribel’s fraccion, Rubodon (tree-clone guy) and the Afro Arrancar that Chad barely beat might still be alive. However, I’ve been away for a while, what with not really caring about Bleach nearly as much as most people in here after the debacle that was “Winter War”.

(Technically, nothing’s been confirmed and Kubo just finally introduced the Zero Division after hyping them up for a decade…)
That said, yeah, Juha Bach was already among the strongest because he supposedly survived Yamamoto “1000 years ago”…and then he stole Old Man Genocide’s absurdly broken Bankai, which no one in the story is aware of. Considering he then effortlessly murdered Yamamoto in one blow (well, technically three…thousand), he’s easily the “strongest”.
Ichigo will be strongest due to plot armor and this new part-Quincy bullshit, obviously, but…yeah.

yep, you’re right that gotei was yama’s and unohana’s been there longer than kyoraku and ukitake.
No. “Most senior” simply means the Captain who has the most authority. It has nothing to do with tenure. Even if she is older (which is not confirmed), she has not been a member of the Gotei longer than Kyoraku or Ukitake. Kyoraku and Ukitake are the ORIGINAL Captains - they are Yama’s first graduates, Unohana is not as far as anyone knows.
If we are to stretch, Kirinji was almost certainly the previous 4th division Captain, based on how much stronger his healing abilities are.
EDIT: This however could all go out the window if Unohana is revealed to be the original 11th Division Captain. In which case I will applaud Kubo for a job well done.
No one knows, too many new pieces on the board. There are at least 8 people who could be the strongest right now and none of them have gone all out.

they were the the first graduates. doesnt mean they were the first captains. unohana’s one of the13 people that was before the gotei roaming w/ yama tearing shit up that bach was talking about.

Looks like Unohana has been a captain longer than Ukitake and Shunsui. They two of them were just the first graduates of the Shinigami Academy to become captains. The 4 of them are the oldest but, it looks like this is the order:
Yamamoto - Founder
Unohana - 1st Captain
Shunsui - 1st Graduate to become a Captain
Ukitake - 2nd Graduate to become a Captain
Senpai also means teacher, so it’s totally possible that she was part of the original Gotei 13 “thugs” with CC and mentored Shunsui and Ukitake. Especially because they said they were afraid to think of her being angry in an earlier post

I told you all 2 years ago that Unohana is the BEST and nothing has changed that simply because Kyoraku out of all people chose HER to TEACH Kenpachi(Who will be the best after she teaches him). Aizen ran from her and showed her his shikai just so he wouldn’t get owned before running from her yet Aizen goes head on with Yamaji. Seems like Yamaji would rather fight than to watch her destroy everyone considering she is a Kenpachi and has no remorse for anyone around her while fighting. Also i am calling it now if Aizen gets released…EVERYONE is fucking dead
