BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma EXTEND announced!

Is the BBCP update released yet?

In arcades it’s been out for a few days. It won’t be coming to consoles until April-May.

It’ll be out on consoles two weeks after US release.

So early-mid April huh? Well, only a few weeks before S++ tier Kokonoe becomes A+ tier Kokonoe.

Yeah. I was just watching some Kokonoe videos last night, and holy crap, she’s still stupid good. The stuff they changed was really only the most abusive stuff about her. Her 6A alone makes me want to go to Arcsys and slap someone.

Tsubaki balance decision: "Tsubaki’s 2C is like, useful and things, players are actually using it. It must actually be a good anti air right now. We need to fix that, Tsubaki can’t have good normals - reduce the invulnerability and active frames."
Kokonoe balance decision: “Yeah, it’s totally fine for her 6A to have head invulnerability from frame -4-, for pretty much as long as she wants. 11 frames of startup should be about right too, after all, it wouldn’t do for her to have less than the fastest AA in the game, right?”

=(

Kokonoe is easily a huge threat but hopefully things will balance out over time. I’m more curious on how Terumi plays along with Noel in this game since I’m still waiting on the US release.

Kokonoe is almost a hazama in that her base design alone prevents her from being bad unless you make an active attempt.

I still fundamentally think this sort of thing is a misconception. Neither of them have anything magic about their design, they’re just badly tuned. All it takes is tiny little things like “Hazama’s drives now have landing recovery” or “Hazama’s normals are now in line with the rest of the cast” and all of a sudden these characters aren’t dumb. They said this about Litchi, and she was low-ish tier in Extend and the only reason she’s so high in CP is basically too much damage because they apparently didn’t figure out her combo paths or something. Yes, you have to “make an active attempt” to balance them, in much the same way that you have to “make an active attempt” to balance any character.

Every single one of the characters that people always claim are “prevented from being bad by their design” are ALSO prevented from being bad by having awesome options that AREN’T tied to their “design”. Nothing about Hazama’s “Design” says his overhead needs to be 22 frames and give bonus proration. Nothing about Valk’s “design” says he needs to have invulnerability on his wolf brake or an overhead that can be cancelled into more mixup and is +5 even if they managed to block it. And so on. If all other characters had tools that are as strong as the ones these supposedly “prevented from being bad by their design” characters have, BB would be a lot more tightly balanced. You could turn Tsubaki or Makoto from a low tier hero into a damn strong character by making their normals as good as Hazama’s, but somehow, being an “short ranged rushdown/pressure character” doesn’t entitle you to fast normals that have good plus on block options? #ArcSysLogic

Though honestly, I don’t even know what Kokonoe’s “design” is, except “everything and the kitchen sink”.

I think that what it comes down to is not “this character’s design keeps them from being bad” so much as “this character has been given tools that allow them to do what their design says they should be able to do.”

At the end of the day, the characters that are weak are the ones that don’t have tools that help them do what they’re ‘supposed’ to do.

Well, BlazBlue Chrono Phantasma is out in NA today (digital and physical release)

Too bad I’m kind of cash-strapped atm so I can’t hop on it day 1

At least I have a PS3 now so I can Blazblue with you all when I get the game sometime next week

Yeah, now all I have to do is figure out how to wrest the PS3 away from the other member of my household. -_-

This was way more convenient when I could just kidnap the 360 and hide in the back room to practice. =/

I’ll have to wait until I have money to get the North American version. For now though, I’ll have to settle with the import version…on my “new but old” TV, that I can’t figure out how to get rid of the motion blur on.

Impatiently waiting for Amazon to ship my LE. I don’t even wanna touch the game anymore until I get the US version.

Can the Japanese copy work with people who have a North American copy?

Yes.

Yeah. Amazon is doing the “preparing for shipment” thing to me again. If the jokers don’t have the darn thing out the door soon I’m going to complain again. They did this for my Tales of Xillia preorder too - didn’t even put it in the mail for like a week after the release date.

Luckily I did the Amazon Prime thing just in time…hopefully I’ll be getting BB:CP by tomorrow.

I got my LE from Amazon yesterday. As a Rachel player, the nendo is totally worth it. However, anyone who sees the box art will immediately think it’s a hentai game. Be prepared - this is as anime as it gets folks.

Yeah, it’s the same box as the Japanese LE. I don’t know what Rachel is doing there, she’s not exactly a sex symbol.

I’m still waiting for the US version to come out in Japan.
