BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma EXTEND announced!

Tell it to Valk and Hazama, aka “Team Always S Tier no matter what.” :stuck_out_tongue:

So far, no balance changes confirmed for characters outside the “new for CP” characters (and no, changing the motion for one of Bang’s moves and one of Tsubaki’s moves doesn’t count as ‘balance changes’) Waiting to see what else surfaces.

Oh, it’s also worth pointing out that the PS3 won’t be getting this patch until MAY, which means that “Don’t worry, they’ll fix Kokonoe any day now” isn’t really very true.

The thing about characters like Valkenhayn, Hazama, and Tao is that you can’t really change too too much about them or they kind of become ass and drop down like 3 tiers. I want to say the same is in fact NOT true for Litchi, but I’m not a Litchi player in the least so I won’t pretend to know much about using her at all.

I don’t agree. Having that kind of mobility will always make them good no matter how badly you nerf their damage/pressure/mixup.

Their mobility is actually what gives them their pressure and mixup in a lot of ways, so…that’s actually what I was referring to in that the only way to make them ass would be to do the things you suggested and give them like zero priority.

Problem with them is you kinda have to try to make them bad. Especially Hazama, who has every tool a fighting game character could ever want.

Contrary to popular misinformed belief Valkenhayn CAN be nerfed, not sure why people say that he can’t be. Here is a small potential nerf list that actually MAKES SENSE.

Potential Valkenhayn Nerf List:

-Remove his wolf brake w[j.A] IOH by not allowing him to cancel out of rasen wolf during start-up.

-Take away his ability to do a wolf meterless rising w[j.C].

-Make his 6B less + on block.

-Make his 6C less + on block.

-Take away 5D’s head invulnerability

-Give his wolf command grab more start-up.

-Remove wolf cancellable properties from his 2A.

-Remove 5C/2C’s geschwind cancellable properties outside of OD mode.

-Give his w[j.A] less hitstun, especially on aerial CH.

-Disallow him to cancel into geschwind wolf on whiff.

-Cut his w[4D/7D] invulnerability in half.

I’m not saying that ArcSysWorks should implement all of these nerfs, but these are all nerfs that A. Don’t ruin all of his combo potential and B. Don’t change/ruin the character completely and C. Make sense. And yes, I can think of many more plausible changes to add to the list.

Typically when people talk about nerfing Valkenhayn they always suggest absolutely ludicrous things such as removing all wolf lows and removing key wolf gatlings, both of which are just terrible character design choices in my opinion. Those sorts of comments usually come from misinformed people anyhow.

And since I’m on the topic of myth busting, contrary to popular belief Valkenhayn WAS nerfed pretty damn hard from Extend -> CP. Extend Valkenhayn was in an entirely different league of godliness.

Problem is that most other characters were nerfed as well, and thus Valkenhayn still remains strong/top tier even in CP.

Don’t blame Valkenhayn’s inherent character design for his everlasting greatness, blame the people who decide to continually keep him top tier.

I will say though that Valkenhayn’s Wolf Gauge could do with some nerfing since I almost never see people run out of Wolf Gauge unless they try to.

Well, I suspect that one of the first things you learn as a Valk player is how not to run out of wolf gauge.

But Dreize brings up an EXCELLENT general point; You can EASILY look at his list of changes and go “Yeah, some combination of those would reduce Valk to a lower tier without killing him or fundamentally changing his design.” The same thing can be done with any character. A few changes to gatlings or changes in recovery of attacks or changes to special ‘gimmicks’ can easily bring a character up or down a lot.

I also fundamentally disagree that Hazama has ‘every tool he could ask for’ - he really doesn’t, but the ones he does have are extremely strong. Honestly though, he’d be a perfectly fine character if somehow every game he didn’t have combo routes that allowed him to do hilarious amounts of damage off of even fairly bland starters. He also has normals that have no excuse for being as good as they are. Sorry, H-man, but your 5B and your 2A should’ve been nerfed after CS2 when they got rid of everyone ELSE’S plus on block jabs. Hazama basically just seems to get special treatment (This is not actually a big surprise, since apparently the system designer for the game is a Hazama fanboy.) His design isn’t all that amazing.

Mobility is nice, but at the end of the day, a very mobile character doesn’t have an unfair advantage if they have, say, a damage penalty compared to other characters, and there are reasonable holes in their pressure; Neither of these two things is fundamentally attached to a character being very mobile.

Similarly, characters who are ‘always bad’ don’t have any ‘fundamental design issues’ most of the time either, they just have poor normals, or inexplicably low damage when compared to other characters who have more advantages.

Serious talk. If Jin can be S-tier in this game, all excuses for ‘character X is low tier because of their design’ pretty much go out the window. It just goes to show how much difference getting good damage off things makes. The ONLY character who has design issues keeping him from top tier is Tager, and half of that would be fixed if goddamn magnetism actually worked right on Hazama/Valk/Tao/Litchi.

Hey whatsup ppl… I’m kinda new to Bb scene…well I was always around the games but never decided until now to get in dept of bbcp due to the fgc in my area… I was wondering if any of you godlike bb players is willing to give me some backhanded advice in a few sets. I’m fairly decent… atleast I think I am… I play bullet, azreal, tsub, makoto…

I could try helping you out if you wanted. Granted, I’m just decent/solid overall comparatively, but I know enough to try and give you some character breakdown things.

No CP for me until March. Heck, if I didn’t want the Rachel Nendroid, I’d be tempted to wait until May.

I still have yet to obtain a PS3

Airk I need Kliff notes for Tsubaki for the Blazblue tournament I will be attending at my local monthly in a couple of days

Have you read the Strategy Guide on Dustloop? It’s probably a great place to start.

Thanks man I’m on psn obviously.
“Kjeino-tn901-” …hit me up we can run a few sets sometimes

Don’t think that I’ve ever actually played any of you SRK’ers.

Hmm.

Yeah, same here. It’s actually kinda odd thinking about it.

Well, if any of you are interested in facing a scumbag Valk hit me up.

Agh, too many words, not enough pictures

I didn’t have time to practice any Tsubaki stuff for casuals since I was in the middle of a Guilty Gear tournament, so I forgot all my shit and just went with Ragna for the tournament. Sorry v_v

BlazBlue tournament we had was pretty hype though. I think it actually had more entrants than UMvC3 or SSFIVAE2012. That’s…something at least.

Sorry; We were going to try to do a video guide once, but they take so long to produce that there’s a new version of the game before we finish. :stuck_out_tongue:
