BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma EXTEND announced!

Don’t. He’s a contender for worst character in the game, on top of being extremely technical, and learning him won’t strengthen your overall game as much as learning a more straightforward character. Most of your fights will be incredibly one-sided one way or the other, which makes it difficult to gain meaningful experience.

I mean, if you really love the character and plan on dedicating yourself to him completely, then go for it. Character love > all. But if you’re just trying him on a whim in your search for a new main (which is how it sounded to me), he’s among the 4-5 characters that I would recommend for a beginner to never touch.

I’m not really a beginner, I just haven’t tried many characters besides Haku and Makoto. And maining Arakune so far has been WORLDS easier than being a Makoto player…funner too, seeing as how I don’t drop combos online with him lol. It seems like he requires a lot of thought and trickery to play, and I love it.

Going off what some of the people in the Skype chat are saying though, you’d think he was the best character in the goddamn game. Niggas just salty about curse.

Meanwhile Amane has chips like a fucking Pringles can.

Amane is pretty bad though; Just because he has a couple of setups where if he’s somehow gotten to high drill levels, he can do a bunch of chip, doesn’t really mean much.

Arakune is a source of great anger because he was F-ing stupid in every iteration of the game before CP.

What, as in OP?

Pretty much fighting Arakune in most BB games before turned into block block block “Oh shit, overhead!” “BEES!” 8-9k damage.

Lol the only time I thought he was way too ridiculous was in CT.

If you can avoid curse fodder, Arakune gets bodied free.

Yeah, it’s super easy to avoid things that give you curse on block too. :stuck_out_tongue: I mean, seriously. You have an excellent approach move like j.B, and then you can do blockstrings for curse if you have to.

5A is da troof.

The funniest thing I find about this character is getting the cloud that stays on Arakune, back up to the edge, and then the cloud tries to follow me to the other side of the screen. It makes the other person panic between trying to dodge the cloud and prevent getting closer to Arakune himself, lol.

Arakune brings out the scrub in everyone.

So I’ve been reading up on some discussion about Kokonoe possibly being banned from tournament play due to being supposedly ST Akuma overpowered or whatever

Opinion? Ban/No Ban? Just wait until things play out?

I know Japan has started making a blacklist of PSN players who use Kokonoe and stuff like that, and that SKD has her “clearly as SS tier”. Speaking from my opinion on a ban? I don’t know. I mean, I only really play Noel and Mu (with random Azrael or Hakumen bits despite not knowing how to play them), but I’m 50/50 on it. Like, knowing what I know and knew when I started looking back I supported the Akuma ban in ST, but I also was strongly against the MK ban back in my Brawl days.

Ideally, there’d just be a patch for when Kokonoe/Kagura/Terumi reach arcades over there that re-balances some things or fixes a bunch of her “potentially game-breaking stuff” that would just get around it, but who knows.

I don’t really know if she deserves a ban, but I think calling for one is only going to hurt our image as a community. Everyone still remembers the immaturity of the Injustice community screaming for a ban on Scorpion, although that character was nowhere near as good as Kokonoe. Playing up the imbalance of the game is only going to turn away potential new players.

The important thing to remember is that if Kokonoe is really banworthy, then ASW is probably taking a look at her right now. Just gotta ride it out if you feel that she’s too strong. I agree with Celerity that it’s a bad look for the community; ASW is a quality developer, but they’ve had their fair share of screw-ups (if you consider this one). Regardless, the response from the community is already being perceived negatively across the board so it’s very wise to wait for ASW at this point. If anything, the character will be soft-banned and things can move forward as normal.

I don’t -really- know enough about the character to judge “is this character banworthy, or just overpowered”; And it probably doesn’t even MATTER. ASW will fix it eventually, there’s like maybe one major anywhere nearby, and the netplay warriors have nothing at stake.

So we may as well just STFU about it for now.

We should have just took the easy out of banning Koko, Terumi, and Kagura due to being console exclusive characters. Would have saved a ton of headache and we wouldn’t be in this dumb situation.

Regardless of if she should be banned or not, we shouldn’t push for any bans this early in. Give it a few months.

The YouTuber novriltataki (who made a very good video tutorial series called Guilty Bits) might work on the next video tutorial series called BlazBits. Would you guys like to see that series?

I’m inclined to agree with this since most of the Japanese scene are playing this mainly in the arcades, and it’s hard to argue for bonus characters if we’re going by arcade regulation. It’s the same reason no one picked Kliff or Justice for tournaments in Guilty Gear (up until Accent Core Plus R rebalanced them in line with the rest of the roster), or even back in the CvS2 days where hardly anyone cared about Evil Ryu/Orochi Iori/Shin Akuma/Ult. Rugal because they weren’t playable in the arcade release.

I think it’s a different situation in the US though, since we don’t have a Chrono Phantasma arcade release and the home release would be the one to go by.

Curious, anyone who’s not for a a console exclusive character ban, how would you have felt if the scene agreed to not allow them when the game first came out?

I don’t see the point of it. The characters are legal on netplay, why shouldn’t they be legal in tournaments? You want to preemptively ban someone’s favorite character just because there’s a chance that they might be too strong? The NA anime scene is not so fragile that we can’t handle a little bullshit, and it’s not like anybody is making their living from BlazBlue tournament winnings.

Here’s how I see it, the only character people are saying is potentially broken is Kokonoe. Japan readily has the console versions of the game available. And when it gets released outside of Asia, the only version people will have outside of Japan will be the console one. If they decide to ban the console characters, that’s basically them saying “hey, don’t use these three characters because we don’t wanna play on the version that has them, even though two of them are fine and only maybe is one of them potentially broken. Maybe. So yeah, don’t use them pretty please.”

Basically, them banning them without good reason is basically like them saying don’t play SSF4 because it wasn’t in arcades but vanilla is and ae isn’t out yet and we don’t wanna play on consoles.
