Blanka 2013 ideas (purely speculative)

This is how it worked in super and it was decided it was too strong of a tool for Blanka to have.

@Mehtbh I think MP Safeball is important in like 10 matchups and really Blanka loses to Ryu without it. Oh also in a lot of situations where HP Ball is unsafe on hit vs. Fei LP or MP or EX ball is safe. You should play around with the ranges by blocking rekkas at different ranges. It’s not intuitive(YAY BLANKA) but it gives you more flexibility on punishing that character.

Yeah in several matches you’ve got to use unorthodox attack strings just to give the spacing to make LP Ball safe on block. It’s really unnecessary and stupid.

Off course, they could simply fix the characters in question instead of nerfing a character that’s already in need of buffs.

Again, you’re extracting a tone and paying little attention to what I’m actually saying. A character is not some black and white entity that is in a binary state of needing ‘buffs’ or ‘nerfs’. I suggested changes. Changes with reasons that make sense for everyone involved. There’s not much point going on here as I’ll just be re-iterating time and time again. I don’t want to nerf blanka. In the slightest. I want to make him a better part of the game.

The reason I don’t like MP ball in that circumstance is you need to be in a midscreen space to be able to use it. Staying there against Fei is… a task. Especially given that after using it you’re pushed quite far back and will probably end up in a space where you can’t use it again. I hadn’t honestly tried EX much but it seems drastic to have to spend a bar for such a meagre punish. I’m fairly sure even EX isn’t guaranteed the KD on punish though. If it is, I’ll probably start using it in the meanwhile. But I see what you’re saying.

The knockdown isn’t guaranteed @Mehtbh but it works from farther out than hp by just a smidge.

well I think maintaining your space vs. fei is hard, but it’s not really a big deal to be cornered especially if you have the lifelead. Rekkas do so little chip now that you can just wait for a mistake to punish, and if you have the reactions to block overhead and hit dashins he really can’t do much. Even if all you can punish a rekka with is st.jab, he has to chip you 5 times to equal one stand jab punish. St.jab also does a great job hitting rekkas in startup.

You don’t want to be cornered, but it’s not the end of the world. Hell my current strat against Fei is safeballs to harass him and make him impatient(or try to punish) then I just get a knockdown and get my stuff started.

Here are my dream requests:

  • cl.mk +5 or +6 on hit and airborne on first frames, for combos like cl.mk, cr.mk xx ball
  • FADC and follow up any hori ball, not just EX
  • lk upball can autocorrect
  • regular rainball ball (non-ex) breaks armor

just curious… why do you want LK upball to autocorrect? like it never occurred to me that it doesn’t track well… usually i feel it whiffs against certain ‘angled’ jump ins… but in general i feel like i rarely get jumped in on when I have charge and it’s not a safe jump/meaty

as for regular rainbow ball… honestly… the move have so much flaws… i don’t even know what needs to be done to make this move even decent… right now it’s only used in certain situations or as some sort of gimmick… they basically need to change too much… like break armor, non throwable or add invincibility, way faster in every way, maybe kill off the initial animation (s.HK looking flip), maybe change it so that on block it bounces away from opponent like ibuki ex stomps…

For AA’ing crossups. EX works wonders, but without meter I have to block or try a st.HK that trades often.
