I’m not Black but as a Southerner (and more importantly, having a Southern Grandmother) I’ve had the privilege of having REAL fried chicken, not overcooked KFC shit.
If you don’t use buttermilk anywhere in your recipe, it’s not REAL fried chicken.
That’s strange…I thought everyone loved fried chicken, just not us black people.
I mean, when it’s cooked right, there is no race that will deny the goodness of fried chicken. I don’t even really like consuming a whole bunch of greasy foods, but I’ll make an exception to some good 'ol homemade fried chicken.
Watermelons are bleh though. No taste and annoyingly-placed seeds.
Here in Cali, there aren’t that many popeyes. The Churches in my old neighborhood is packed with black folk 24/7 (it’s also open 24/7).
No where near as good as my mama’s chicken, but it’s alright.
Damn, Churches getting blown up. I havn’t been there since I was like 12, so maybe it is garbage (I just remember it being greasy as fuck). I only eat the homemade shit as it is.
I can answer both myths about fried chicken and watermelon in a logical way. First black people don’t go crazy over either the only people I’ve seen go crazy over food are kids.
Now to answer why fried chicken and watermelon is likely associated with blacks. Chicken is cheap easy food to prepare blacks for the most part have not had alot of money in this country so chicken would a common meal you prepare again and again. Watermelon I’d think goes back to slavery days. For instance if you had been slaving in the hot Georgia sun all day you might be pretty damn happy to see a watermelon no matter who you are.
Being black myself I feel that fried chicken and 90% of the foods produced by my people is un healthy. Which is why im the only fit person at family reunions. Like really those fat asses cant even do the chacha slide for 2 verses without getting tired.
The only good thing about Church’s is the biscuits. Hot sause is required for the chicken. Church’s is for broke people and you will have a good shit afterwards.Popyes and Bojangles is the only fried chicken that I can really relate to
