Bison's Q&A Thread: Ask here before making new threads!

@m16ghost & deathzerozx

hey thanks for the advice! time to hit the training room. as suspected i need to slow down and stop mashing buttons like a noob when doing combos

(cant help it been playing mvc half my life lol).

Is Bison still capable of doing his 50/50 with U2 in AE? I don’t play Bison but I’m curious.

Yeah it does

he still has 50/50s but its more risky because of the increased cooldown if it’s blocked

I have a couple of newb questions:

Ive been reading up alot on bison etc lately and have been playing him for the past few days or so. Managed to gain a measely 2k BP atm.

  1. Im just curious: what general strat or mentality do you guys have when playing him?

I know every matchup is different, but i find myself lacking a clear ‘objective’ when playing him, as opposed to playing akuma where i aim to get in there and land his big damage bnb combo with tatsu xx dp/ FADC etc. With dic what I am doing most of the time is reactionary, and most of the matches were won by chipping and wearing my opp down with pokes, or punishing mistakes when they get impatient etc. Since he doesnt really do any big ‘burst’ damage to speak of.

In a nutshell for some reason i find it hard to be offensive with him like some of the top bison pros ive seen playing.

  1. I too have trouble maintaining pressure in the corner, or after scoring a knockdown. Is there a ‘step by step’ thing that you guys have when you got them in the corner to maintain pressure? like ‘ok now i will do c.lk xx sk twice then FA dash in and throw him, if he gets up i will ex stomp him’ or its just instinctive and reactionary because the pros ive seen are just that good and experienced? Any tips?

But theres no feeling like ending the match with his U1, it screams ‘SIT THE FUCK DOWN SON’. lmao

edit: I also cannot seem to beat decent fei longs. Their rekkas push me back all the way to the corner and the next moment he will be all over me. He just seem to outdamage me way faster than i can hurt him.

for corner pressure, you can charge buffer light sk, use stand hk if you think they are trying to jump out and escape, crouch light kick, and tic throw. All of those are viable mixups that keep the pressure on.

Bison has a seemingly limited moveset but at a closer look he has good mindgame, feints, baits, even mixup potential but unlike some characters you actually need to put work/creativity into it for results. He has godly pokes no matter how you look at it. You can rush, poke, turtle, even time out. I think it’s best to use all of these to your advantage, but I think in AE there’s more MUs than say in SSF4 when running the clock is his best bet.

Find what works for you and keep at it. Bison can be played differently yet at the same effectiveness (generally speaking.) For me, I like to frustrate my opponent and punish, turtle, but sometimes I may start being really aggressive and rush which in itself throws my opponent off. Also baiting reversals with warp is priceless. Esp when you have U2

Sorry if I’m oblivious, but are there any FADC combo vid threads for Bison? That and frametrap techniques would be nice as well.

Or would frametraps be in the framedata thread? Goes to look.

Edit: Feels retarded for thinking the Frametrap thread title said frame data instead. X_X

Most fadc combos just fadc after scissors. You can also fadc out of psycho crusher, slide, st. Fierce, and I don’t know what else… but the most probable move to use it with is scissors

I try to look at spacing a lot. I use the health and super bars to help gauge distance when I’m not entirely focused looking at one part. Spacing is so important, it’s a major green light for people to jump at you when they’re too close. There’s also that sweet spot where they doubt themselves if they should jump at you, and then you just swat them out the air with a roundhouse or neutral jump attack.

this website broke, only will let me like this post one time. What Tony-San said is probably one of the most important fundamentals when using Bison- spacing. It’s actually hard to jump in on a Bison who has good reaction and spacing, and since Bison doesn’t have a brainless/go to anti-air it’s crucial to remain that “sweet spot” distance he is speaking of (esp when fighting Twins!!!) so you can hk them. Jump hk is more lenient though on the spacing. Try to keep them at this distance with his pokes, I like stand mk. And for FADC combos, I really don’t like them… they seem like a waste of meter (Bison has god like ex moves) unless you are sure you will get a ko or are trying to push them into a corner. Damage scaling is just devastating with those.

FADC is generally useless for Bison. The only times you might bother using it is to try and bait something or to maybe attempt to save yourself if you h sk by accident somehow.

hey trial 22 is nearly undoable:

jump HK
crouch LP LP
LK LK
L scisors
super

the crouch LP LP stand LK LK part is very tough to do alone, especially as you are pushed back when you hit and have to hold back to charge for the scisors, so the last LK usually ends up being a whiff

do you guys manage to do it easily after lots of training ? just curious

No lie i did that on my first try. When i cleard all of the trials i was bored and went to do it again, this time it took me a long time. lol I probally just pulled a fluke. But just relax, dont mash, feel the buttons as you see them hit. I like only having exactly what i hit on the input display. Also put them in the corner, It MIGHT help.

Nearly all of the combos are easy (after I got good with Bison and played the game for a decent amount of time) bar the last one because I have a custom button layout so it made it difficult to do so I had to switch to default for a bit.

Honestly many of those combos are just for fun and aren’t practical in actual combat. That’s generally how trials in SSF4 are. If you wish when I’m not busy I can take a look and tell you the important ones. I just did it so I can get Bison’s flag.

oh yeah sure, if its no trouble for you, thanks in advance

how do you properly cancel a scisor into a super ? i keep mashing the kick button and the d-button, and it only comes out once in a while

1-6 are just basic specials, 10-12 are punishes

wow so many of these are pointless (If you do all his trials you get Bison’s flag. Only reason why I did it.), what’s up with 13… stand hp bison warp. lol

okay ones I really like are

14, 15, 16 (I would say 17 but in AE it’s not that motion anymore) 18 (if you want to learn how you can hit confirm off of skulldiver, that’s not even the full combo or the most useful version of skull diver but it’s worth playing with) 19, 21 (your favorite!) 23, 24

yeah so most of these trials are redundant or just flashy with bad damage scaling. Some important ones are missing like crouch lp, stand close lp punch, crouch mk, xx sk.

This is a mystery to myself and many Bisons.Even top level Bisons, yet we can still do this move. Many would tell you they just “mash it out”

I honestly can’t explain… it’s a motion I do. Sorry. But I will offer a tip:

You can only mash it out/cancel on the first hit of the sk, so you cant be late with it

no u need to mash <- -> instead button, while during first hit of scissor and start mashing <- -> like fast scissor again, the left in the command of the input of kick can make super come out. is like <- charge -> scissor <- -> kick.

I am pad player and I did finish the trial, the timing was not easy on pad…and my c.lk is trashed online and being blame for using turbo.

and same with C.Fierce punch, you need to precharge when the C. Fierce hit start mashing back and forth while make button crisp and clear (like 2 hit or 1 hit?)
so while the full animation of c.fierce finish the super comes out.

I wonder this maybe an Ultra/Super setup? C.fierce is actually good when they hit with standing foes??
I do c.fierce:

c.fierce FADC throw, FADC c.lk xx throw, FADC c.lk teleport back.
wonder anyone can do c.fierce fadc into ultra for anyone think they gonna get throw…this is just too god like.

BTW Catching Camey during her EX AIR SPIN into ultra was very satisfying…

Can someone post a link to a thread dedicated to Dictator’s safe jump setups ? I tried a search but this kind of information seems to be diluted… Thank you.

thx guys for helping me out with my command execution problems, its good to know i’m not the only one suffering out there

so i guess i’ll have to keep mashing out the scisors into super, hmm not very satisfying… they could’ve fixed this

yes indeed it has become my favorite move lol, i now manage to perform the full combination (with the cancel at the end) more often than not, but it fails in real match
