I think he means a rush punch like Q’s Dashing Head/Leg Attack, which can hit high, mid or low depending on how you do the inputs.

He’s actually encased in a gigantic iron lung, so none of his limbs are sticking out. The legs at the bottom are robotic.
I no longer like this game.

Rush ‘punches’ could have him blast forward using the sax pipe at the back, then headbutt for normal hits, fall on top of them for overhead or slide for low.
I want to delete my old comments…
Hey! Scroll down there’s more of a Big Band section now:

http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/keep-skullgirls-growing?c=home

tl;dr he’s an ex-cop named Ben who nearly got killed by his dirty co-workers and was revived by ASG Labs and is now their Team Dad and is really dedicated to their cause.

Right now the actual attack idea descriptions are vague. Aesthetically they sound to be… well, what I expected, heh. I’ll be more interested once we start hearing about their properties and utility.

<span style=“font-weight: normal;”>I’ve mentioned this before, but I love his jazz theme (of course it was pretty likely considering the general theme of Skullgirls and the fact that the dude is a giant sax).

Ben Birdland? Saying that his combo style may be themed to improvisational jazz? Sign me up. I’m a huge jazz lover, and this is nuts to me.

It was written for his brief character description that he will probably open his trenchcoat for attacks.
And if I don’t see jiggling crotch physics when that happens I will loose much hope in the SG developers.
Can I recreate the Cowboy Bebop theme with Big Band’s combos?
I think everyone of his attacks should make a instrument noise.

I assume they’ll make him a little shorter than he is shown now for the sake of balance.

I also think his “command taunt” should play a random sax solo, Carless Whisper, the epic sax man loop, Tank!/Cowboy Bebop theme, and something else.

I wanna say he should have some low playing background sax music coming out of him at all times but that might get annoying or distracting depending.

If there is no reference to the song Sax Man from The Lonely Island I will be greatly upset.
My thoughts on musical combos:

1. low attacks are low octave
2. air attacks are high octave
3a. Dash is a sax blast (note played changes based on time and the last button)
3b. lp=A note, mp=B, hp=C, lk=D, mk=E, hk=F, dash=G ( command notes!: pressing back, down, or forward will switch between one of three octaves)
3c. most normal attacks dont make musical notes, but certain specials or supers (perhaps his command grab have ridiculous amounts of stun/canned animation on hit where the player can do raging demon style inputs for different melodies and effects/damage)
3d. She hulk style combo super where different inputs result in different melodies.
3e. His super results in his theme song being played ala Bang Shishigami
4. He just plays along with the BGM whenever hes comboing, When getting comboed, he does the same thing except out of tune.
If they do this it should actually be in a jazz scale/mode. Not just the basic major scale.
All I need to say is that there has to be a Tuba Croc reference snuck in there somewhere.

I’m a rookie musician, so I know nothing about jazz scales. I just understand enough to ad lib really.
If I remember correctly, a C blues scale is C, Eb, F, F#, G, Bb, then new octave.
That would work out perfectly because 6 scale degrees=6 buttons.

Jazz scales are scales some performers learn to help them construct improvisations with more of a ‘theme’- especially if the song they’re ad-libbing on is using a similar scale of notes. I learned a few back when I took part in jazz band, but my friend (from that same jazz band) who pretty much plays with the best of the modern-day jazz artists today really, really seems to hate them. He mentioned to me that jazz scales only serve to restrict one’s creativity when soloing, so what I came away with was that it’s really a matter of opinion (as all art/music topics tend to turn towards, haha).

As an example, if you look at the basic blues scale, you can use the notes and play them in just about any order, rhythm and etc… and for the most part it’ll come out sounding like something you’d hear in a blues solo or it’ll give you some solid inspiration to branch off of it and make something a little more unique.

I’d definitely like to see something like that worked into Big Band, but at this point the reference to Birdland and just the concept of “improvisations” is enough for me.
