Between DC and Marvel...which do you prefer the most?

“Unmitigated” means “not mitigated.”

smacks forehead Of course! :rofl::rofl:

Zeph - No worries. DC needs all the love it can get around here.

I find myself reading more DC titles than Marvel lately. I still read a lot from both sides though.

There’s a catch, right? Like, she’s retarded, or no longer toilet-trained, right? Or on top of that damned accent, she stutters?

No catch at all. Next issue has her tearing Risman a new asshole while X-force goes after Bastion.

DC. Its true that a lot of the heroes in the universe is broken but I felt that they compensated that by showing us how vulnerable and how human each character is. In terms of personal demons and existentialism, I think DC does a better job at portraying that in each character.

Despite the fact that I think Marvel is currently stuck in the past with some of its franchises (Spider-Man) I still prefer them over DC any day.

Both companies have some awesome characters but as someone already pointed out, DC has a super, mega hard, pants-busting boner on for Batman and Superman. I mean, I love those two characters. They are my fav super heroes right behind Spidey, but dang! How many other characters get peed on because these guys are always getting the spotlight.

Another gripe I have with DC is all the annoying retcons and comic cross overs. I’d like to be able to read a book bout one of their characters without being lost or worrying if my head will blow up clean off my shoulders. Like at any give moment, the continuity you know will get thrown down the crapper. Now I don’t want to sound like an upity fanboy but would it kill a comic company not to hit the frickin’ reset button? This includes Marvel.

You only got about a third of the Transformers comics too.

The UK ones were released more often and were of a superior quality.

marvel for the characters.

DC for the writing. Marvel just gets too fucking mixed up and confusing.

I kinda agree… and it was indeed brilliant for the 60’s it had never been done (oh wait I think pre_Batman, New York had the “Gotham” nickname duering the depression era… correct me if i’m wrong)

But in the long run, I find let’s say Final Fantasy worlds such as Midgar and Esthar more fascinating… because they don’t exist, too much reality (in plot and setting) in a comic book takes away the escapism and eventually makes the whole setting of the comic book defeat itself…

What I really REALLY hate is when Gotham (during No Man’s Land) became an off-limits to superheroes who could’ve solved the problems in a heartbeat…

and it’s even more Pathetic when 911 took place in the Marvel Universe (In new york of all places, a city crowded with metas) it really makes the superheroes look UTTERLY USELESS!!

And everybody cried like a bitch, even Dr. Doom.

One thing I appreciate about DC is that they tend to minimize real world issues unless they can deal with them in an intelligent way. Marvel’s flirtations with the real world might make it seem more relevant on the surface, but carefully mixing fantasy with a bit of reality is one thing. Marvel occasionally throws fantasy and reality into a bag and jerks it around like it’s Shake ‘n’ Bake.

Yeah, bub, I was extremely confused when I saw Magneto feel sorry for the good people of New York. I thought Magneto hated homo sapiens and would celebrate the loss of life.

Or maybe it’s just a comic book.

I used to be a big Marvel fan, but, Magneto’s death getting retconned pushed me over to DC. I’ve never been as pissed at a comic book company as when Marvel started retconning pieces of Morrison’s New X-Men run, and it’s very doubtful I ever shall again. His New X-Men run was the reason I started reading comics again, and when Marvel started fucking with it, I wasn’t going to deal with their shit anymore.
