Victor doesn’t have the subtlety to do that shit. He probably would’ve just walked up behind Mike and tapped him on the shoulder.
I can’t concede it’s Fring just yet. It could be one of the dealer’s assistants (if he has any) or it could’ve been someone Nacho hired to track the guy to make sure he didn’t take out Hector. Far as I know, Fring had absolutely no one in BB that was as good at this shit as Mike. So unless he had someone BEFORE Mike became head of security we have no way of knowing what’s going down.
I’m starting to hate these “leave them wanting more” moments in season finales tho. Irritating as shit.
It’s probably because I give no quarter to people who do this sorta shit to family.
Chuck is mad that his parents have always preferred Jimmy even though Jimmy was pretty much a loser. This is the same shit as the Prodigal Son with Chuck being the older brother. He’s upset that the parents celebrated the failure yet he doesn’t see that his parents are awaiting for the son to “return home” or come to his sense, which he was DOING until Chuck became even more of an irritable bowel.
In the Prodigal Son parable, the older brother is a sniveling twat too, believing he’s owed more love because he acted as his parents had intended. He doesn’t understand how a parent’s love works and he’s selfish as fuck to boot. I just can’t and won’t have sympathy for that type of character.
And I am not here saying Jimmy is clean. I never did. I just think Chuck is the reason he’s the way he is now and an unsupportive asshole to the one family member alive and takes care of him without asking for anything in return. Say what you want about Jimmy, but he cares about others even more than for himself. Chuck is just dead set on making sure to keep him as the black sheep of the family.
The opening scene was just SCREAMING how much of an asshole he is. After I saw that, he just can’t be redeemed in my eyes.
Of Fring’s return I have zero doubt. He is key in Mike’s life. In fact, just think back to Mike’s reaction when he learned about Fring’s death. Dude was fuming mad. Have you ever asked yourself, “why”? Mike was paid up, that was just his employer. You’d think he would just chalk it up to the nature of the business.
Nah, there’s something deeper there and I feel we’re gonna learn about it during Better Call Saul. Every part of me believed he was returning.
Rumors are flying around that there was some cut footage (a cut character, specifically) from the season finale that was tied to Gus. It was probably who left the note, but unlikely Gus himself.
Chuck took Jimmy’s advice and rolled around in the dirt with him. But man the start of that episode told a lot of Chuck and his strong resentment of Jimmy.
Also anybody see Kim’s face during that commercial especially the “trust” part.
I don’t deny that Chuck clearly has some immature sense of jealousy which goes way deep and far back. That’s on him.
But I think of Jimmy almost as like a drug addict, or at least his behavior somewhat resembles that of a drug addict. He fucks up, and then says “please forgive me, I’ll never do it again!”
And then he does it again. “Please forgive me, I’ll never do it again!”
And it keeps repeating. Chuck has been dealing with this shit for over 30 years and he’s probably tired of it because Jimmy shows no real initiative towards stopping his own destructive behavior. After awhile you just don’t want to give people any more chances and you sure as fuck can’t completely trust them or have faith in them. Everything that Chuck feared with regard to Jimmy having a law degree has come to pass, and he was doing it even before he realized that Chuck was blackballing him from working at HHM. I don’t think Jimmy is a bad guy, since he clearly cares about people who are important to him. Even Chuck, who, at times has been an asshole towards him. But he is dangerously impulsive, and his “act now, ask questions later” approach, ironically, hurts the people he cares about more than it helps them.
I don’t agree with the whole “Chuck made Jimmy this way” line of thinking. Jimmy has been doing this for a very long time, going back to when he was working in his father’s store as a kid. Long before Chuck started having to put out all of the fires that Jimmy started. Blaming Chuck is just a convenient way for Jimmy to try to exonerate himself of his actions, the same way a serial killer says “It wasn’t me who killed those people, it was the demon inside of me!” or “My dad spanked me once, so I had to kill.”
The final scene was so painful to watch. Normally Jimmy would be able to see through such an obvious ruse, but he was too blinded by his love and admiration for his brother. Not to mention he never thought his brother, who believes in the letter of the law, would employ such crude “Jimmy” tactics for petty revenge.
Speaking of petty, seeing Chuck’s full motivation for undermining and despising Jimmy spelled everything out so clearly. Chuck being the straight line- unwavering, basically got ignored because Jimmy’s charisma always made him the center of attention. I do plan on elaborating on this later, as this is by far the most compelling aspect of the show. A complex, but tense fraternal relationship makes for surprisingly engaging television.
As for Mike “Pliskin” Ehrmantraut, it’s evident that Gus (via a henchman following his direct orders) was responsible for distracting him. Tuco getting incarcerated probably roused his suspicion enough to look into Mike’s background and his motives. Assassinating a higher up in the Mexican Cartel would’ve put Gus in the crosshairs, since he would inevitably be the primary suspect, being a major player and all. Not to mention the Mexican’s scorched earth policy would be bad for business in general. Fortunately for Mike, Gus was probably extremely impressed with his skillset, as well as his character (i.e., their mutual hatred for the Salamancas), so Fring will probably concoct a plausible scenario for who stole their money to take them off the scent (similar to how he made Hank the target instead of Walt in Breaking Bad), thus, earning Mike’s respect. It’s going to be the start of a beautiful friendship.
The problem Jimmy and Kim face next season isn’t the impending trial they will have to deal with, but the consequences of said charges. Their fledgling law firm will be dragged through the mud and their reputations will be ruined even if they win; the same way a guy falsely accused of rape will forever be under suspicion as a rapist even when exonerated. A flummoxed Kim will likely heed Chuck’s words post-trial and see Jimmy as a career liability, even though he means well (the recording of his motivation being Kim will hammer this point). I wouldn’t be surprised if Kim goes back to her hometown to start her career anew or something similar next season.
Better Call Saul continues to impress me with its superb cinematography. The inverted scene with Chuck on the gurney really did a good job in showing the claustrophobic paranoia he felt being doused by imagined “toxic rays”. I can’t wait for next season, I wouldn’t be surprised if they go the Breaking Bad route and end it all in season 5.
Work hard, not fuck over your family, become a big time lawyer, handle the families finances, and generally be the good son; mom wants to talk to her charismatic fuck up son in her dying breath, acting like you don’t exist.
Chuck has like a super villain origin story.
His big weakness is not making friends, and it showed when Ernie stepped up for Jimmy.
Season premiere was tonight. Still love the way this series depicts how often we all blur ethical lines. Mike is a pleasure to watch just doing his investigation with little to no dialogue. Nice premiere, hoping we get full on Saul by season’s end
Still wondering whats up with Saul in the beginning. Faking it? Is he actually sick? And we likely wont find out until next season lol.
I think this is the season where Chuck gets crucified. Saul is gonna expose all his crazy in court, get his doctor to testify he’s crazy, even get Hamlin on his side (who will take 100% control from Chuck). Chuck is gonna end up committed or dead as everything falls apart. Maybe a psychotic induced coma like before.
But if theres one thing I know, its that I know nothing about what to expect from this series and Breaking Bad lol
I loved the opening scene with Saul as Gene, struggling with himself to rat out the shoplifter and then telling the shoplifter to get a lawyer. I think it was talked about on Talking Saul how these flash forward sequences show how much Saul has changed since the end of Breaking Bad, like not opening the emergency door when he was locked in the trash disposal area at the mall. I think the fainting was real. He probably felt sick after doing what he did.
Overall, great season premiere. Who do you think Chuck plans on showing the recording to? My first thought was Kim to get her to break ties with Jimmy, but after the scene with Ernesto, it seems like he has bigger plans.
It was an interesting first episode. The first segment showed him scared witless by the coming run-in with law enforcement, so he played it low key. However, he felt so bad for the kid, who probably reminded Saul of his younger self that his limbic system took over and the line, “Get a lawyer!” slipped out of him. His fainting spell was either a sign of a medical issue or a result of the worry of repercussions for doing so.
Mike’s segment was also interesting in that he figured out how he was tracked. It is my guess that Gus Freeman is behind it. Scaramanga and his boss are his arch rivals and he has a man following them.
I believe Chuck is going to litigate since he has so many grudges against Jimmy and the fallout will be bad enough to cause Jimmy’s disbarment. However, Chuck is going to use Kim’s career as a bargaining chip to make it happen. Jimmy will then start a new life with a different name.
