a few things i have found that lets us stand a chance against chun
well timed hk can beat out c.mk
well timed b-hk can trade or even beat out chun’s hp or b-hp
well timed and well placed c.mk will stop chun from throwing out random hp
if for some reason she jumps (which she won’t but eventually they mightmightmightmightmight) she shall be destroyed, i don’t care what you say if chun jumps elena players have no excuse but to swat her, no shut stop complaing about the priority of her j.mk or j.hp,j.hp, elena can deal with it which is why good chun players won’t jump so go ahead and ignore my 5 line rant.
so basically hope that when you as an elena player are enjoying a nice winning streak and then a person picks chun li your best strategy is to be smarter than them
What I was trying to imply is that you can take risks jumping at her (when she has no meter). Since she can’t do more than a fierce or throw if you screw up, you can study how she reacts to your jumps and modify your game accordingly. Elena has a pretty good mk crossup, and you know what to do if the opponent gets too throw-happy in response to your jump-ins (or techs your own throw attempts). Aim for a knock down and try cautious stuff like baiting with one normal and immediately inputting a parry since chun li players often rely on c.jab to stop rush downs. If she keeps blocking, then just kara throw all day, but this is unlikely. It’s true, you can take advantage of the air if she attempts to jump in on you; just look for it after it happens and do whatever two-hit air move you like and mixup from there.
When she gets bar, play her like any other character: turtle your ass off and pray for a good opportunity.
Elena’s hk is pretty good at what it does, you just have to be careful not to rely on it because they’ll eventually start waiting and then punish whiffs. I agree that c.mk is a good standoff normal, but if she decides to do c.mk also, you’re screwed.
I would just like to say that playing against a “good” Ken (i.e. Paul, Edma) and those that play super homo footsies and block all day Kens (i.e. Ricky, Wong) is like the worst matchup for me period. I’d rather fight an army of Chun’s vs. an army of Kens. Why? Cause all Ken has to do is hold back. That’s it. To beat Elena he just has to hold back and whiff attacks to get meter. Plus he gets meter really fast and does sizable damage with one bar. Once he has one meter, all he has to do is just throw out low forwards, or wait and jab dp anything on reaction. The only poke Elena has that can outrange Ken’s low forward is her fwd+fwd kick move, or her standing roundhouse and even that is super risky because if the zoning Ken gets close and does nothing and you whiff, goodnight. Hell, the only way I beat so many of those gay Ken’s I fight is because I rush, rush, rush, and take all risks.
And to clarify, I didn’t stop using Elena. If I go to a major tournament, or something big I’ll use her, but since I’m not too big a fan of playing 3s, I prefer to have fun and use other guys like Remy in tournies.
Also to clarify, Paul Lee is a homo, and his style of Ken is GAY. Random jab dp’s and the ability to stay alive with zero percent make him one of the toughest Ken’s out there to beat.
Here is my personal list of hard opponents when you’re using Elena(Take note that these are really good players)
Ken - Damn hard to attack. His speeed makes it even harder. I have to make 3times effort to beat my opponent
Chun Li - I hate this girl especially a turtling Chun. Pokes, Kara-throws, and link-combos are better than Elena’s moves.
Yun - A Genei Jin freak is really hard to beat especially a real good rush-down opponent. Yun can back out and give a real good defense when he is building meter.
ken is definately her worst matchup. the only way i EVER beat ken is with really random mixup, and comboing into SAII every single time i get it.
for best matchup, besides the obvious (sean and 12) who do you guys find the easiest?
i find that i own makoto for free, but then again, there aren’t any really good makotos at the arcade i go to, so i wouldn’t really know, but i find that i can outpoke and outspeed her to death, and you can counter all sorts of shit she tries with rhino horn, although i think that probably wouldn’t work on a better makoto.
most of the people i play with can’t even parry right, but i never have time to go to the real arcades in Manhattan.:bluu:
Dude! A good Makoto is really hard for Elena to beat. Especially, when she uses SAII. Makoto has better dash than Elena and her command grabs are really a pain in the @ss. But then again, You said the people there can’t even give a decent match by parrying right… Feel sorry for that
indeedly doo a good makoto can be a scary thing, the best methods to fight them is to stay out of the coner when they have meter and are using SAII, b-hk when she tries to grab and a missed dash punch means c.mp super
