First box from Jasens is here with everything that the missus got, except for the actual enclosure. Hopefully that shows up before we head to Gulfport in two weeks time.
Enclosure will be here in the morning, Iām having it held at FedEx so I can go pick it up.
Had Chandra pick what type of button she wants for the punch/kick buttons on her Panzer, she ended up picking the Samducksa buttons, so Iāll be ordering some buttons for her in the next day or two. Also reached out to the artist Iāve used on the last couple of art commissions Iāve had done, to see if they have the template on deck.
also, I see that @jonyfraze is back posting as well. Welcome back!
More midnight madness shopping:
Taking a swing at Retro-Bitās take on the Hori Pad Mini, hopefully itāll be decent on Switch (pretty sure button remapping will be required) and PC
Also my dirt cheap offer for a i9 9900K got accepted, just waiting for the seller to send tracking info\the payment to clear PayPal, may be too good to be true, anyone got tips for validating if this is a legit CPU when I get it in my hands?
I thought about getting that Retro-Bit controller for my N64; the only controller that I have on-hand is a stock Nintendo one that my brother bought second-hand, so the analog is worn and wobbly as crap. My options are:
- Replace with a 3rd party OEM-style analog module
- Replace with a 3rd party GameCube-style analog module
- Brawler 64 controller
- Tribute 64 controller
Iāve just read bad things about ALL of the analog modules of the aboveā¦
I might just try to repair the existing analog parts in the stock one that I have; Iāve heard of people having success using a heat-gun and squeezing the rails back into shape.
Whatās the worst that can happen, right? I make an already unusable analog module even more unusable. No big loss, right?
Chandraās Panzer case should be here tomorrow morning. Just got updated that it left the FedEx hub in Memphis, and is in transit.
Also had a really good call with Social Security. Theyāre promising a decision within 30 days regarding reinstating my disability benefits. Could possibly see $15k as a lump sum if all goes well.
Too many projects
Local office is liquidating inventory, and they have one of these 1600x1200 monitors for $130:
Temped to upgrade my retro gaming setup, currently using a 14" Samsung CRT with Component-In, that I picked up a few years ago, nothing wrong with it, but 21" > 14" right? My XRG-2plus has been collecting dust since, and am wondering it its worth it to bring back that mess of wires by switching back to monitor vs TV.
The Retro Fighters Brawler Pad or the Retro-Bit controller are the best two out there.
Keep in mind I HATE the stock controller.
I heard the OEM and GameCube style replacement part does not work that well in the stock N64 as its not hitting all the directions the stock āanalogā stick did, so you donāt get perfect circles.
I got no issues with my Brawler pad.
Iāve seen some video reviews that say that both the Brawler Pad and the Retro-Bit pad also donāt do perfect circles either, though, and I guess thatās what I was concerned about.
Good to hear that your Brawler Pad works great; definitely good to hear a recommendation for that one.
It never going to be perfect as Nintendo stock controllers arenāt analog, they use optical encoders.
So its never a 1 to 1 match. But I can get Link to do his spin attack which is hard on some of the Analog stick replacments.
Yessss. My dad got me a drill press. Itās mounted/installed at my parentsā place since he also has the table saw where I do my arcade stick builds, but he got the drill press for me essentially.
Interesting story; the drill press actually belonged to my late uncle (my dadās older brother), who passed away in 2007. My aunt (my late uncleās wife) has kept their family house all these years, but has finally decided to sell it and downsize: her 3 kids have all moved out (her youngest moved out 2 years ago), and it wasnāt worthwhile for her to keep/maintain such a large house by herself anymore.
My uncle worked as a general contractor back in the day, so he had a huge stash of tools and stuff. A couple of weeks ago, my aunt asked my dad to go over and help sort out my uncleās old tools/power tools, and told him to feel free to take any he wanted. My dad only asked for one thing: the drill press (for me).
This ought to make future stick builds easier/better. The ādrill pressā that Iāve been using all these years is one of those hand-drill mounts, so it sort of ābecomesā a drill press. Works in a pinch, and hasnāt caused me too many problems with stick-building in the past, but Iāve noticed that the holes drift just slightly to the right, and the mount looses gradually with use so I have to re-tighten everything every hour or so of work.
Cool story, especially on Fathers Day, nice keeping the drill press in the family
Came and saw this at work today, look at all that cat 6 cable.
How much you think all that copper is worth, and techs are just throwing it away.
I hope you copped that at least.
No, what I am going to do with all that cat6
Many useful uses outside of networking. Iām in software and IT. Itās always good to have spare cabling around.
For what I am doing lately, that wiring too thin.
Not an arcade stick but I thought that people here would appreciate some really clean wiring: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/gavin-hoole-b-eng-miet-engtech-iosh-ma-ed-send-amei-dipbom-taqa-smsts-1st-aider-1278a411_networks-engineering-neurodivercity-activity-6680091967315066880-Waen
I see this pic. And OMG yes wiring Porn.
Oh there a new PS2 boot exploit on the scene that boots DVDs on PS2 without a modchip or softmod.
Planning on getting buttons for the wifeās Panzer when I get back ā¦ also going to decide while on my trip if I want to finally step up to a fully custom stick.
Edit: Iām probably done with the forums after the stuff going down with Wiz in regards to his accusation.
Behold. The one (and according to my wife, āONLYā) CRT I will have in my home. A Sony PVM-14L5. Itās fucking tiny, but itās beautiful. And it does 480P too!
Hereās the setup. Itās split to an OSSC via gscartsw to output HDMI to the LCD on my desk.
Still deciding on whether or not to sell my PC Engine+SSDS3. MiSTer really kicks ass! ā¦kinda makes it irrelevant.
