I feel left out that I’m in accounting then. everyone is in mech/elec eng :frowning:

I’m a chemist so I don’t have any idea what is going on here…

No the actual solution was to move a powerful magnet away from a volatile magnetic hard drive disk. It was not some quick antidote I made up, it part of a true story. The Device in question was a prototype to the original Apple Macintosh computer. And yes there some Engineers in there that do deserve a hammer to the temple (repeatedly). I watch as a engine for a Mep 3 generator (which I normally repair in my time in the service) goes from very repair friendly to a total nightmare for me to rebuild. A 12 inch by 4 inch opening isn’t big enough to reattach piston rods, I rather just remove the whole oil pan, but no some sorry shit engineer had to fuck up the engine design.

And I don’t think its unreasonable to judge something uncomfortable just by looking at it. I never said it was not comfortable, just that the game pad was total crap.

I don’t care if Valve hired some “of the smartest minds” out there. Fricking who cares about steam box having its own game pad if the things so Hackable? For something like TF2 or Portal I prefer a keyboard and mouse. Where my Half Life III they keep trolling everyone with?

I have a degree in English. Get on my level.

I have two :stuck_out_tongue:

English degrees? Why would you do that to yourself? :Kappa:

I have a Associates in General Technologies… Which was fun.
Went to an ATC for Machining and Graphic Design… at the same time.
Had a 1 year apprenticeship for Electrical repair… which I loved.
Also a 6 month apprenticeship in blacksmithing… but I don’t like talking about that.

I am the man who never decided what to do…

I am also home now…

You have to remember that not all design choices are the engineer’s. Above all, the upper level needs to approve things and if they find a way to make it less expensive or designed in a way that requires the user buy something then the design engineer can’t really say much about it. A lot of what you see are actually “choice 3” presented by the engineering team where they need to give options in case upper management doesn’t like one or two of them.

A small opening to reach x part in a car is generally ridiculous. The engineer knows it, but someone whispered in his ear that he needs to make it that way so that there is more room for aesthetics or the latest technology that can be presented to a buyer. Better yet, it requires an extremely skilled hand or specific tools to work on it so you can’t do it yourself or some random shop.

It’s not always the case, but you’d be surprised at how often it happens. Rarely do the engineers get free reign.

You’d be amazed the disconnect between mechanical and electronic eng. departments within the same company. Welcome to my job. The mechanical guys will actually design the enclosure for our electronics without consulting us. “This is what it will look like. Make your crap fit in here and work proper.” And then when it fails CE they don’t understand that a mechanical design can and often does affect EMC and other tests. It breaks my heart when I look into some of our competitor’s products and see that they actually designed the enclosure around a sound electronic design (monster frame ground for dumping unwanted noise, in particular). Why can’t I have that? runs away crying

Already have that and a degree in IT as well.

One for American and one for British.

So you know how Engineers will come up with one term and the Marketing guys will come up with a term that has nothing to do with the product but it sounds snazzy, so when you talk to the consumers they are confused with 2 different sets of standards for naming. Like everyone here (hopefully) knows that 802.11 is the same as Wifi, but the average customer/consumer is completely lost.

That is where I rant comes from. I still trying to figure out why you make the engine block and oil pan as one piece? Best engine design I had to tear down and rebuilt was from a John Deere, Caterpillar isn’t that bad either, There even this Ford I Block that was a breeze to rebuilt (although the fly wheel is 50 pounds and the crank shaft needs to people to lift. Cummings is terrible. Especially when you trying to figure out it’s ass backwards timing gear or it’s electrical system.
Hummer Engines aren’t bad (the military kind not the shit H2/H3) as long as a glow plug does not break inside the block.

Quite a few days old, i dunno if anyone follows micomsoft products. who are known for the popular Framemeister and XRGB video scalers. And recently that horribly overpriced XAC-1… but look…

no not the control panel… the one above it.

XE-1usb. seems like they developed their own usb encoder board for arcade controls.

Reminds me of an old joke…

I wonder if @DaRabidDuckie would ever consider eating chinese at this resto.

@d3v What side dishes does that come with?

The squid tentacles that did the deed, chopped thin, and sauteed with sweet onions.

Why does that actually sound good to me…?

Why leeks of course.

Already have. The owner is hot. Where do you think she got the name from?
