Just for everyone’s information, I just received my order from this company; Pololu.com and everything is great quality!

Most notably, they sell pre-crimped .100 wires (male, female or both) and pretty much any configuration of plastic housings for them. I hooked 2 of them to a pivoting motor and let it run for six hours on it’s highest speed, no failures. Did I mention that they are dirt cheap?

With Pardise Arcade Shop’s Kaimana on the horizon, I’ve been making some plans for including some simple robotics in my next project. Gotta love Arduino!

Mine just arrived and it feels pretty good to work on. Kinda hard to beat when the price (with shipping) came out to $29.99.

It’s like the Chinese equivalent to the Hakko 936 (which was one of my favorites in school) and can use any Hakko tips. Yes, I know, we all cringe when people say “Chinese equivalent” but, on many occasions, I’m pleasantly surprised when ordering Chinese parts. This is one of those times.

Was a little worried, because I hadn’t seen the video until after I placed the order, but then I used it to replace some through-hole caps on a lawnmower pcb, WORRIES ERADICATED. Haven’t tried any surface mount work so I’ll get back to you on that.

Just keep an eye on that forum thread, there are apparently things that people call “perfect tips” (you’ll see people post links to them here and there) for that iron because Hakko tips can sometimes break the ceramic core (on removal) if the inner diameter isn’t perfect.

If that does happen, you can get a replacement pencil for like $9 shipped from ebay.

Still on my original one, but then again it’s the desk station that is the rebranded one, it uses 936 tips I think… not sure off hand I bought a couple spares years ago but still haven’t dug into them yet.

Gummo’s poor tip is so worn out that it’s just a little cup that holds solder, and he drops it on the pins.

It’s actually really weird that his joints are so clean.

Oh my god if this next project works I will never again shit on people who’s sole job is to make ergonomic yet eye pleasing stuff. Making progress though, hope to have a prototype ordered next week. I don’t think I’ve ever had this many projects going at once, all small for the most part but still. Interesting avenue right now.
