“Effect” isn’t to “Bring about”
“Affect” is. “Effect” is a noun. It’s a change in something. You “affect” something to cause it to be “effected.” You cannot “effect” something, as “effect” is a noun, and you cannot ‘noun’ something. I can’t MvC2 a play. But I can play MvC2.
As far as your “time paradox” hypothesis goes, it’s flawed in that “effect” / “affect” isn’t a time-bearing relationship. They’re two different parts of speech. They’re two different words. They have two separate meanings that just so happen to affect each other - oh, see what I did there?
And while I might be being a bit overly pretentious with grammar at times, I don’t think this is such a time. It’s not difficult to know simple things, like where to put a period and comma - that said, I could have also got pissy with his retort, but I suppose it’s still SRK and it’s pointless.
