Best fighting game for GF/Casuals

Kinda sad that one guy’s voice ruined a game for your girl.

Skullgirls would be a good choice. Whatever ends up working for you. Every game has its own presentation and style that could maybe work for her.

Chicks love DOA, even if it is degrading.

Phantom Breaker got her ears perking. She was a fan of stein’s gate.

Not so much the voice as the “Forget this, get fucked. Drop that, get fucked. Spam rekka’s, get fucked.” I chill on his stream and he’s kinda… thorough is a polite way to put it.

Your Avatar suits your statement perfectly sir.

Drat, I had a hunch you were in China, but still too far away. Is your gf Chinese?

I’m actually looking into getting a Qanba through Taobao soon, just trying to keep enough money back to do so. (It’s particularly frustrating that I can’t really practice, as my stick is busted and I can’t get the (Korean) parts to fix it easily. Had to adjust to playing on Sanwa in the arcades here, so I’ll just jump on a Q4.)

If I can get that procured soon crosses fingers let’s get some matches in on GGPO. At least the connection won’t be as horrific as I usually get (on ST or anything)

If 2D fighters fail to stick, my ex loved Soul Calibur 2, and the HD remake is out in a few days. I’ve found SC2 to be the go-to fighter when I’m among casuals for a while.

Alternatively, there is Melee on a Dolphin emulator. It’s not a traditional fighter, but very easy for people to pick up and have a blast. I can’t really think of any regular 2D fighters that don’t have a steep learning curve. Skullgirls would be one if it didn’t have such a focus on learning long combos. I guess if you guys are only playing together, you could just not worry about combos to make it easier. But that also depends on whether or not you want to spend that much time playing a gimped version of that game.

Its relly a nice and underrated game. Phantom breaker has bit of everything from majority of fighters. But what it does teach is meter management and counter play.

LMAO wut? where does GG have gothic lolitas or cute stuff?

If you go by aesthetics i say P4A, AH3, MB, BB, Aquapazza, the upcoming Dangeki FG etc, but realistically any game can be good for casuals, i dunno why so many people have this misconception that a casual player can’t enjoy a game like GG for example, i know a lot of people who barely know the mechanics of GG but still have a hella of a time playing it. If you are interested on teaching her a game 1st it should be one that she is interested (preferably one that you enjoy too) and 2nd you don’t do it by teaching everything from the get go, you do it going little by little, let her learn by her own pace and don’t frustrate her trying to make her play like a tournament player.

Edit

My recomendations would be Battle Fantasia and Persona 4 Arena both are easy enough and if she likes anime she would like both of them.

I read the rules, I figured this works simply because I was asking for further suggestions. I’m not necessarily looking for a penultimate game for her to get into as a multitude of opinions and a long list. This thread definitely has introduced to me a wide variety of games that I didn’t know existed (nor will I be able to afford for a few months “Phantom Breaker”). I appreciate your help with that list and will be adding them to the pile of stuff I will be showing her. I figure I’ll play like 3 games a day just to get cursory feels for it then after a week or so decide on one or two to stick to.

GG doesn’t have Gothic LOLITA stuff but it’s got cute girls and definitely has gothic/metal stylings. As far as the “good for casuals” thing I think a lot of people in this thread understand what I’m looking for. It’s gotta be busy enough to feel rewarding when you do some basic ish but also not be so complicated that you have trouble following what’s going on- on screen. I know mods aren’t in the habit of closing threads but most of my questions have been answered. If they wanna close this that’s fine, I’ll try not to post another thread like this.

Thanks for the help guys! I’m just excited that my girlfriend will finally be getting into FG’s.

Ease of entry - 3 button Pocket Fighter

I think she’ll appreciate it for its cuteness for sure

D’awww Lei-Lei~

I will tell you right now, SoulCalibur is probably your best bet hands down, followed very closely by Tekken. Any one of them is fine. SCV and Tag2 for maximum customization hype. These games are as serious or as casual as you and your partner want them to be.

Might still be worth asking her which one she thinks would be best, though. Just don’t get frustrated if she gets frustrated while playing~

Moving to the Newbie Dojo, where this seems more relevant.

Whaaaat?! Damn it, man!!! I need you to make me a VF scrub-killer in an hour! :frowning:

I’d go with skull girls or persona

you can emulate the 64 smash bros on a low end pc and use your ps3 controllers for remotes. its cute enough with pikachu and jigglypuff and its different enough that you wouldn’t be sandbagging the entire time

Smash.

Oh wait, you wanted a fighting game.

I weighed the options of suggesting this one. It’s a pretty fun game too. Doesn’t teach proper spacing as much, but it does for sure teach punishes and mixups.

I recommend Persona, hands down. It’s only 4 buttons so it’s easy to pick up and play with a controller, it’s more button-masher friendly than a lot of other fighters out there, the Playstation community is still relatively active, and the character design is a little less male-oriented.

It’s my go-to-game when playing with people that don’t really play fighters, because even when they lose they don’t feel like they were completely destroyed, plus the skills you pick up translate more to other fighters on the market, compared to something like Soul Calibur. The game features a decent tutorial mode as well.

Cool. I think if my money comes through I may be bidding on a copy of persona since to me it’s only worth like 10 bucks and gamestop is charging something like 30.

After reading some of these posts by you for a while I actually think that there is nothing wrong with the game but you’re just terrible at adapting to simple stuff.
It definitely has a low entry barrier however if you never EVER played a fighting game you will have problems but it is the same with almost any game you play unless the game spoonfeeds you or makes you believe that you’re godlike. For fuck sake stop crying like a little bitch about sf4. How comes that people with only 1 hand or no hands at all can pull off combos or even compete at toplevel while you just suck at doing kens cr.LP cr.LP HP srk ? Must be the game.

I find the notion of any fighting game having a low entry barrier to be entirely laughable. This genre is straight up difficult.
