Tanakas idea is good. do it !

hehe, it’s a good idea… adds more fun to the style.

and by luck, it’s going to be ricky/eric/lb in both games.

sexy.

venkat is going to be teamed up with ryan because they are best friends

!!!

Time To Join With Ken S.A. I.

SUCKAS!

Yeah it sounds like fun, but who’s going to pay for a tourney like that?

What’s really awesome is that you get to choose which 3s character I play, because I have equal skill with all of them!

t e a m p e n f i f t e e n

I dunno, logically I think people would do it. After all, it’s not like we’re expecting to beat Ricky when we enter 3S.

What do you mean who would want to pay for that?

I don’t understand how it’s any different.

Everybody is playing as an individual anyway. Just because you’re on a team, does’nt mean your matches against other people are in anyway different from a single 1 on 1 tourney. The only difference is now you’re not just signing up w/ your buddies or finding the best people to be on your team. Now you get to meet new people by teaming up w/ them.

I don’t think it matters what your team is at all. Every player can only do the best they can do as an individual. Besides, people who are decent get bogus brackets all the time in tourneys. like have to face Ricky first round or something.

So the only worst case scenario would be that you get teamed up w/ 2 players below your level. (Like Ryan and Venkat. tee hee) Only meaning you could anchor for your team and play the best you can play. In which case you would have gotten the same results of playing in a 1 on 1 tourney. You take the same amount of risk w/ your money in a tourney this way as you do in singles.

Some people enter tourneys because they want to test themselves AGAINST another person. What happens if those two people end up on the same team? Also, hard as you may try, you might get money for sucking if you get teamed with whoever is the best. Sure that top-player might choose to team with someone who isn’t as good, but at least it’s HIS choice who he splits his money with, y’know?

Good for exhibition/fun, maybe. But I dunno about a money-tournament.

I’ll still consider it 'til Monday, so keep coming up with arguments.

hmmmm, good argument.

However if someone wants to test themselves against anyone specific, they ought to challenge them personally.

But I see your point on someone who sucks winning money for sucking. I agree that random teams would turn into a gamble for those who suck instead of a test of skill.

On the other hand, people who want to win money will do what they can to get the best on their team. Making it a tourney of social status for those less skillful. Street Fighter tournaments in the US have always been dictated by the top players hooking their buddies up. At least this would be a nice change.

So it would seem obvious that people who know they would’nt have a chance of beating the best would want to have a random chance of teaming up w/ the best. And those who know they have a shot at winning money will be against teaming up w/ random partners and losing their chance of winning money back.

So I think since it’s the people that sponsor these tourneys (everyone who enters) who are spending their money, it ought to be a choice of how to spend. Either spend it by teaming up w/ your buddies, or gambling w/ random teams.

Why not take a vote on this thread? And another vote on the day of? Does that sound agreeable?

i vote random draws.

random draws x2

YEAH, if Ricky wants to split his money with me then so be it

seriously though, i don’t really see the effectiveness of a team tourney when the teams have to be constructed randomly

the only people who really benefit from random teams are players who for sure wouldn’t be placed on a team with the top players. In the case of 3s tourneys around berkeley and davis, ricky is really the only top-player who enters (no offense to the other good players, but i’m talking about good on another level). With that in mind, a random drawing of teams almost means that 2 lucky people will end up with free money being teamed with ricky since no other team really has a good chance against him. i understand that if the team tourney is single-game then someone may get lucky against him and win, but the chances of that are still pretty low.

i mean in the end, it’s still going to be a pretty high probability that ricky’s team ends up winning. the only difference would be who gets to split the winnings with him.

random teaming would be a lot better if we knew for sure that there would be multiple top-players attending, so that maybe 3 or 4 teams would be anchored by someone really good and still have a chance at winning overall. however, this isn’t really the case with these tournies…

you might also get teamed up with someone you really dislike. i know that doesn’t apply for most of the berkeley and davis people (since we’re all brothers and/or lovers), but there’s some people who play at bearcade that nearly all the regulars hate with a passion. i can picture lb going crazy and murdering venkat cuz he found out he’s been teamed up with bin laden (some dood we all don’t like).

i guess i’m pretty biased in this decision about random-teaming, but i think i’ve brought up some good points
random teaming is a really good idea if you have a larger number of top-players, but it doesn’t really change things if there’s only one.

if i get teamed up with bin-akuma-jump-back-throw fireball-forever im gonna say my name is keith. ^ ^ CURSED ~!

Don’t listen to Keith cuz well… he’s teaming up with Ricky!!!

Hence all his points will be ignored and deleted from this thread.

Yes and there are guys like akuma-jump-back-fireball-all-I-know-is-I-turtle-like-a-mofo-osama-bin-laden-look-alike guys who I would NEVER EVER IN A MILLION YEARS team up with. Foos like that make me hate the game.

Then there are guys like opera who just makes me hate the world.

Right then, givin the facts for this specific scenario, it makes the most sense not to use random draw.

I just think it’s a good idea and would like to use it for a better situation someday. I can’t even make next Saturday (24th) anyways so it never meant that much to me. Oh well

we should ban ricky.

and it would be so much fun.

^^

and if it was random draw, and i was teamed up with someone i didn’t like. jesus, i don’t know what i’d do. prolly change my name or someshit.

What if the winning team plays an optional round robin for 70/20/10 split?

Is that how they’d do things in China?

I have yet to enter a tourny in China…

you must be |----------| this good to enter.
