Why do people need other people to tell them which game they should like?
What the hell?
I hope kof13 input system will be copied, you can always do whatever you want with unambiguously taking these kind of risks.
Also consider getting Persona 4 Ultimax or JoJo’s Bizzare Adventure: All-Star Battle. The former launches in five days(!) and is very friendly to beginners. The latter isn’t exactly the best fighting game primer, but if you’re just starting out, and you’re a fan of that series, it’s worth picking up for sure, especially since I believe Heritage to the Future has been de-listed. Both games feature an auto-combo mechanic that allows you to do a basic combo into a super (if you have the meter for it) by mashing a single button. Very useful to you if you’re still getting a hang of the fundamentals and what not, I think. Won’t carry you through the game though, not online anyway. *Skullgirls *is another 2D fighting game I’d recommend to beginners, because of its extensive training mode. *Divekick *is fighting games broken down to its barest components, which I think is a great way to practice fundamental tactics and dat yomi game.
If you have any arcades nearby, consider going and trying out whatever fighting games they have there. Before I bought Capcom vs. SNK 2 on my home console, my buds and I played around with it a bit at the local arcade at the mall. It’s a great way to try out new fighting games to see what clicks and what you might want to play more of.
To answer your original question though, definitely go for the newest game in the IV series. Ultra retains the series’ depth whilst remaining accessible and enjoyable to newcomers. Turbo is the definitive edition of one of the OG (if not THE OG) fighters, and is still a must-play, if just for a couple buds locally.
