"Becoming the strongest woman in the world!" Chun-li Match-up Thread

Yeah he’s fine at distance and you can keep him out cos Chun has a better poking game and Zoning game. My problem is the loops (the overhead kick thing not wall dives)… I’ve practised this the other night against a mate (godslayer, I think you know him). Thing is I could get out clean on reaction to the loop only on knowing it was coming… Backdash is fine but I just ended up in the corner…

Cheers anyway it seems like I’m playing the match up right I just suffer in that one situation, I honestly can’t react quick enough to the pressure to make it a viable option, trading the cr.fierce to dodge under them is so bad cos you’re at a massive disadvantage…

Oh well I guess I’m just gonna have to guess its coming off the cr.strong or get better reactions lol… The rest of that match up I play fine just that bit :frowning:

Bait Jaguar Tooth and punish with neutral j. rh… free damage all day. Chun should not be advancing toward Adon in the air at all because of her floaty jump. Stay grounded, keep those links crispy and avoid whiffing random blockstrings (as “lower levels” tend to mash Rising Jaguar).

Keep in mind too that they typically mash grab after blocked Jaguar Tooth, which is why you want to reduce his opportunities to put you in blockstun.

walnut: You sure Jaguar Kick is free against Chun’s U1? I imagine the timing to punish isn’t as easy compared to a character like Honda’s headbutt. I need to test in the lab.

It’s a work in progress. I keep up on the thread if there’s new information from sources I can trust about things, but so far there hasn’t been a whole lot of meaningful discussion on matchups against the new characters in Super, I even took notes on every page in the old matchup thread since release. There just isn’t a whole lot of information them, at least not on the boards.

What do you class as “sources you can trust” lol, given most people here are posting for the good of the boards… oh well, there has been a bit of info across all these pages that would be easy to check if you’re not sure? Also I am not sure you have all the info out of the threads I linked for FlashMetroid as throughout those threads there is actually a lot good points and advice listed (and just on the first page)… In all fairness I wouldn’t be able to trawl through it all and keep on top of it, just wondered if you’d been through those threads?

good stuff skatan milla

chun adon is 6-4 she really doesn’t have to do anything but shoot fireballs and not get pressed into the corner and i say if he grabs you take the grab he has no other way to make you stop blocking low except for a ex jaguar kick if up close whiffs a over that you can see a mile away n. j. hk and jump forward hk and hp but all of that chun can see all that coming. Personally i think he hits hard i rather get hit by sagat rather then say adon or cody

There are some people like MagMan, Shizza, or Skatan Milla whose experience I automatically trust. If some random person posts it, I’m probably going to wait for verification from at least a couple other forumers.

As far as the threads you linked, I think all of the information from the old matchup thread (especially concerning new characters in Super) is recorded, I think almost everything from MagMan’s post is in there, although I haven’t checked it in a while so he may have updated it. Dime’s post is pretty much general strategy which isn’t the specific goal of this thread (generalities are included where needed to explain things in the specifics), and the matchup information that IS in there is basically just Azrael’s old post. I hadn’t seen the Brickhouses thing, maybe I’ll read it over dinner and take some notes to add to the OP.

And, as always folks, if there’s something I’m missing that I should add, feel free to point me to it. It’s a much easier job as a community project instead of one man doing it alone.

Thanks for the advice against Dhalsim. Lost to two in a row today. Gonna try out the EX Hazan Shuu against his FP.

Meh. I stopped reading the front page once I read this.

No disrespect I’m lame like that. I just don’t trust new guys that haven’t at least posted a match vid.

LOL never saw this… I have to agree with raiden tbf… You won’t take advice or stuff posted by many of the posters here that have been here for a while, yet will just add what you like… fair enough, I’ll just stick the threads I trust … Sorry mate, I give you props for putting all this up and stuff, but well you know maybe there are other Chuns that can contribute

It’s not so much that I won’t put advice, I just can’t put information that any random person decides to add to the thread without a little fact checking. If I do it myself, then I’ve seen it and I know it. I don’t see how that’s a ridiculous claim. If someone comes in here and says I can reversal a blocked jab by Balrog, I’m not going to add that without a bit of verification.

I don’t see how that’s unreasonable.

Nar man I didn’t mean it like that lol, its just it seems the character match up stuff on the front page is missing a lot of info. That’s all and there has been a lot of stuff posted on the forum that is legit and isn’t there, just seems a shame that its not included cos you deem the source unreliable…

Its not unreasonable just not many people post a “yes that is true” comment and there are plenty of decent Chuns that post here. Sorry man I didn’t mean to be annoying like I said I wouldn’t be bothered to keep something like this up to date but then I wouldn’t start it for that very reason. I’m just saying don’t discount info by people not deemed only by yourself to be worthy of listening to, I think its fair to say everyone here posts to try and be helpful… Anyway sorry if I was out of order, I was just worried that therw would be little point posting info here :frowning:

Again, I want people to post here. It makes my job a lot easier since a lot of people have experience with things that I don’t and will see things I don’t. I’m just saying I need some verification, I can’t just post hearsay. Good posts and valuable information will not go to waste, I just need to make sure they’re good and valuable.

Sorry if this isn;t the perfect thread to ask this but are there any upcoming SFIV tournaments coming in the northeast this fall?

like portland or seattle?

Northwest: Discussion & Matchmaking

What are some good options after scoring a knock down on Adon? Are there any safe jumps against his wakeup?

cr. MK meaty beats most of his options also you can grab him out of a lot of his wake up options

So… seemed like the consensus of the people I hung around with yesterday was that Chun has the upper hand in the Viper match these days.

Did I miss something?

Not really. Chances are, either the Viper players were scrubby or they don’t play Viper at all. Decent to good Vipers will always say they’re comfortable in the match.

Thanks for that mag.

funnily enough, the one Viper players there (and a decent one too), also said that Chun had the advantage. But this was after I just said to him ‘basically, it never seems like Chun is in control, as in the one dictating the flow of the match, she is always just reacting to Viper’s shit and hoping the Viper player fucked up’ and him agreeing with me…

But yes, Viper will be the undoing on me :frowning: All I can basically do is block, keep mobile and look for an opening right? I’m going to look back on this thread to see if there is any more info. I know its an uphill struggle, but I’d rather be as prepared as possible…
