lol, dude, as good as the parry is, it’s not even the most interesting system in the game.
You don’t understand all the manliness behind parrying.
Why are you excited for such a recycled boring system? I really don’t understand. This game offers way more interesting mechanics them something like Parry.
Selenes Light (auto witch time on hit) is good to start if you’re a bit scrubby like i was, that way at least if you get hit you can make up about 4-5 seconds of witch time attacks
getting all the techniques is also good, its amazing how much i use almost all of them now
air dodge, cat, bats, shoulder check, one/both of the charge in attacks (this helps so much for the jeanne fights if you get witch time off dodging her wicked weaves and arent closed enough to capitalise)
All I can say is, don’t play cautiously (at the very least on normal), i can play chapters very carefuly and get an average score, and then do it again going balls to the wall and get like a platinum award
That parry is the one thing that keeps me sane on Infinity Climax. That shit is crucial on this game, and probably the only way you expect to get Witch Time/Gold-Pure Plat trophies.
That’s kind of subjective, though. Parry and perfect dodging are the most interesting game mechanics to me. They are the most interesting to me here, in 3S, in Castlevania: LoI and CoD, GoW, and DI. And maybe even DMC, though I had more stuff to play with in that game. Issen is by far the most interesting game mechanic of Onimusha, and it’s basically the same thing.
I love the rush of staying in your opponent’s face and shrugging off whatever shit they throw at you. Kicking in their face with a big, flashy combo is a secondary pleasure for me, and new, “more interesting” game mechanics (like FADC) often end up feeling stupid to me.
Well yeah but FADC is a stupid mechanic…Dodge Offset isn’t…>.>
I dunno I’m not saying you can’t like parry it just seems like something that’s been in a lot of games and works in pretty much exactly the same way in each one wouldn’t be cause for excitement where there’s a lot of new and not done before mechanics to mess with.
Parry just doesn’t really bring anything new to the game.
If there’s an action game without parry, I usually don’t like it. It’s that integral to me.
Dodge Offset, on the other hand, is cool, but I can take it or leave it.
Shrug I guess that’s why I was asking. To try and understand why. Its such a one dimensional system and works the same way in everything it’s hard for me to get hype about it especially in the face of something new and dynamic.
Everyone just has that one thing that they really love and never get tired of. Even though it’s been done to death and then some I am still hype for slow-motion/bullet time like I’m trapped in 1999.
Actually I just realized that I bought the parry accessory like an hour ago and forgot about it. :looney:
lulz FADC is hardly a new mechanic.
I kind of wish parry in this game was more like DMC Royal Guard. In other words, only one type of parry. Repel window is too large and can be mashed, but most of the time it’s just better to dodge than use repel. Counter, on the other hand, is very difficult to pull off (any counters I land at mostly due to luck). I’d rather have a slightly bigger counter window in exchange for no repel at all.
I didn’t have time to try and unlock the Time Bracelet today.
Sep, I recommend getting the parry accessory as soon as you can, buy necessary skills (Bat With, whatever the Bayonetta Stinger is called, Air dodge, shoulder check is good too), and Witch Hearts. Don’t bother buying any items after Angel Attack; use those points to exchange them for Halos. Once you beat the game, I recommend buying Gaze of Despair because you’ll be more familiar with the levels at that point, and not only does Gaze give you more points for taunted enemies, they attack more often and quicker, allowing possibility for Witch Time more often.
If you do Tetsuzanko with the Onyx Roses and hold down the button, it actually stops them from flying away.
So what weapon combinations are you guys using? I kind of hate that they only let you have two presets.
I’m liking playing as Jeanne. I had a hard time adjusting to her version of WT, but i’m really liking it. She seems to be faster than Bayonetta.
Yeah but you ain’t always got Onyx Roses.
On my first playthrough I used
sword/claws
claws/claws
Mostly I was whoring out the charged attacks of the durga claws because they did huge damage and came out relatively fast (especially the lightning version). Sword is my most used weapon by far because it’s powerful and easy.
Currently on hard I’m using
sword/skates
whip/rockets
Sword/skates is pretty fun, although I don’t use the skates for much besides the added mobility which isn’t even all that useful when you can just spam dodge and panther, but I enjoy it. I mostly just wanted to get away from spamming the claw orbs.
Whip/rockets is goofy and I don’t switch to it that much but I want to figure out stuff to do with the whip besides mashing punch to play keepaway or swat flying things. it just seems really slow and enemies fall out of my more complicated whip combos easily. I’m using rockets just because I missed them (and the skates) on my first playthrough.
Maybe in the future I can get away from my sword dependency but it’s just so easy and good. I’m considering trying to do single-weapon (or single-kit) playthroughs later on, that was one of my favorite things to do in Ninja Gaiden 2. It really makes you master the different weapons and learn new tricks in situations where that weapon might normally put you at a disadvantage.
I mean, I told you why already in an earlier post. Parry lets me play “with attitude” and just stay in dudes’ faces all day, and I find that kind of play style more fun. Dodge Offset, on the other hand, just lets me continue a combo after backing off briefly. Well, I don’t really like backing off in the first place, so parry is better for me.
Don’t get me wrong; I like this game a lot. I just don’t think it’s nearly as good as its peers because I don’t actually like all the new stuff it introduces.
Spirit Juice: Will do on that. I do plan to buy all the moves eventually, though, since I want the trophy for doing that.
I use the Dodge offset to continue being in someones face as well. I don’t see why you havbe to back off just to dodge. The whole point of the system is making it so you can continue to assault someone with a combo despite having had to dodge. It’s designed specifically around letting you continue your barrage, never having to back off and letting your foe breathe.
Wait, wait, the idea of dodge offset is to be able to continue your combo without losing it so you CAN stay right in their face. How is that backing off at all? It’s not like dodge takes you really far away or has a long duration, it’s incredibly quick and short. Being able to continue where you left off keeps your flow going and therefore keeps you in their face and in the action.
If you have them on one preset, all you have to do is switch presets before inputting Tetsuzanko. If you just plain don’t use them, then yeah obviously you won’t get the same use out of it but that’s how I tend to use it.
Nice. I use Sword/Skates with Shotgun/Claws mainly and then I’ll switch shotgun out with rocket launcher for bosses. Haven’t really bothered with the whip and I find the rocket launchers too slow for my tastes vs. non-bosses, but I have been wanting to mess around with a claws/claws configuration.
Sometimes I have the shotty and sometimes I don’t. I’m just saying they aren’t always available. Thats good to know about the Onyx Roses though I didn’t actually know that. I’ll keep it in mind. Thanks man.
