i agree that JC’ing sometimes can be boring when its just like the same loops over and over but there are some top notch DMC players that use JC’ing in very unique ways and i like seeing that.
Yeah but this game has it’s own identity.
i been saying, not worth $60, gonna wait for price drop:tup:
edit:
the ps3 port that is.
You nailed it. The internet just makes everything sound worse with their nonstop bitching.
heh, it’s still funny to me that one of my friends has 360 and Ps3…and he chose to buy Bayonetta on Ps3 out of sheer ignorance, apparently. Still, you’d think he would’ve noticed some kind of difference after playing the demo on both systems. I guess it is a fair and reasonable assumption to think a Ps3 version of a game would be better though, considering that system should be capable of a little more and came out later. (*Yep, he has HDtv. Perhaps each demo being slightly different was enough to fool him? *Note-- yeah, this is THAT guy…the one who’s 360 is most likely still on, and has been on for the past several days to “break it in”, as I mentioned in my blog here and the Lounge thread. I even told a guy at work today, and he was at a loss for words too.)
Time for a bit of musical blasphemy— I actually like the Bayonetta version of Fly Me to the Moon slightly better than the old Sinatra version. In fact, it’s difficult to imagine the song being performed any other way now…this has become the “default” version for me now. It’s also been on repeat in my head since the damn game came out…because everything about this game is so "bloody amazing" as she said in that one cutscene after going panther-mode for the first time. The game kicks so much ass it’s just ridiculous.

That remix is so goooooood. It was a perfect ED for the series.
You’re saying that minute-long load times are acceptable, while the 360 version does not have those.
Think about what you’re saying for a second. Maybe those minute-long load times aren’t so bad now. How will it be when you get to Non-Stop Climax and die repeatedly, going through thirty-second load times every time? How will it be when you’re going for the three-hour speedrun and are trying to play levels over and over to get your time down? How will it be when you’re going for all Platinums and have to restart chapters every time you make a significant error?
The loading in this game isn’t “not that bad”. It’s beyond horrible. Resident Evil 2 had less intrusive load times than this. But the worst part (about this issue, probably not the port in general) is the lack of an option to install the game for no reason at all. The fact that they saw that the game cuts to a loading screen whenever you hit start and thought “this is fine” must have meant that no one cared about polishing the PS3 version - a serious problem when Clover / Platinum is known for high level of polish in their games (which is visible in the 360 version).
It’s pretty seriously bad. It’s bad enough to impact gameplay and bad enough to be extremely noticeable even if you haven’t played the 360 version. At times, it’s decent enough to look good, but one look at how the 360 version runs shows that even then, the port isn’t running well.
These quotes are from another poster on a DMC1 forum. As he says here, the framerate is bad enough that it actually makes it difficult to use certain accessories and techniques.
Eeeeeh. For the majority of the game, it’s more of an annoyance given how the framerate tends to flutter in busy combat scenes as opposed to staying steady unless you’re depending on Bat Within or Perfect Parry that have very specific frame inputs. That’s when things start to get a little messier.
So the framerate is bad enough that Bat Within and the Moon of Mahaa-Kalaa are harder to use. Anyone who has really played the game extensively can tell you that the Moon is one of the absolute most useful accessories, and when you look at certain unlockables, it’s clear why Bat Within not being perfectly responsive is a bad thing.
*From what I’ve used of it, the Gaze of Despair can kill the framerate if it’s a big brawl to something in line with some of the worser performing verses. The Chapter II Courtyard fight can bring the game to its knees for example, but then again what doesn’t bring Chapter II to its knees anyway? It isn’t that Bayonetta’s blows land slower either (Enemies seem to have heightened resilience which does have an effect on the feel of Bayonetta’s blows, but it’s most obvious that it’s the actual framerate taking a dive in Witch Time where Bayonetta actually slows down as she’s moving and attacking with it active).
Excluding those two, Chapter VI Verse 1 and Chapter VIII Verse 1 are as bad as it gets - Your mileage may vary depending on Gaze of Despair use.*
The Gaze of Despair is also a very important item. It’s probably the most useful accessory for getting halos.
This is a fighting game forum, so I’m sure you can understand just how horrible the port has to be that the framerate and slowdown issues restrict the abilities you can use.
Of course the bad port will outsell the real version in Japan. There’s no way that wouldn’t happen, as only the seriously hardcore gamers would have a 360 there (unless I am very mistaken). That’s the reason this bad port exists - Sega had to make a port so they could get sales there, but it seems that they just wanted to make a cheap cash-in rather than a quality product, as Platinum Games did.
Okay, so what? What does that mean for this game, Bayonetta? Who’s to say there will be a sequel, or that the sequel will be any good? What if it turns out to run well on the PS3, but ends up being another Devil May Cry 2? If this port outsells the original version in Japan and does fine everywhere else, what possible reason does Sega have to make sure this doesn’t happen again? It certainly wouldn’t happen out of goodwill to gamers.
I think you misunderstood him.
No that’s not what I said at all. I said I can deal with them. They are bad and shouldn’t be there but I’m not such an impatient fuck that I can’t sit for a minute and wait for the game to load. It’s just not such a big deal that i’d choose to miss out on this extremely entertaining game. That’s stupid to deprive myself of something because I have to wait 60 seconds or so more then someone else to play when I boot up. It’s just dumb. As for frame rate I haven’t had any problems using any of my accessories. It hasn’t limited the abilities i choose to use one bit. Have you even played this game or are you just parroting things you’ve heard and read other people say? I’ve bought this game and I formed my opinion. Yes it has problems. No they shouldn’t be there. Is the game so fucking fun that at the end of the day I don’t give a shit about these minor issues? Yes.
Can’t be all that important considering I don’t have it yet and i’m managing to farm halos easily without it. On top of that, the moon of Kahlaa’s parry window is so open that you can mash the direction you want to parry way ahead of time and still get it to come out. This isn’t SF3 we’re talking about here.
yes I do and considering how there’s a fair share of people in this thread alone who have the 360 and/or PS3 version and still bought the game, i’m sure they can tell you (as they’ve already said from their small runthrough of the game.) that the minor problems don’t hold them back from enjoying the game. Seriously have you even played it or are you just browsing forums and reading quotes like the one you gave above and paraphrasing them here to sound like you know what you’re saying? The game doesn’t require strict timing for anything. Dodging is even pretty loose.
Considering half of Japan ran out to buy a 360 for Tales of Vespira before Namco dicked them with a PS3 port, i’m sure half of them still have it if they haven’t destroyed it or sold it. Which i’m sure is still a fair share of people. Let alone, Japan couldn’t care if the game looked like balls. If it plays well they’ll buy it. Of course this logic doesn’t really work here in the states as people are crazy for over the top eye candy over gameplay now.
it means stop bitching over something that’s not even gamebreaking serious and enjoy the game for what it is. Bad port or not. that’s how it worked before systems had HDDs and online Patch updates.
what does Gaze of Despair do? the description in the game wasnt too clear for me.
How can you say they’re “minor issues”? They’re clearly pretty gamebreaking. I won’t waste space again by copy+pasting, but ctrl+F the word “warning” to get to the relevant post here.

It has nothing to do with being impatient or not wanting to wait one minute. Even though I probably shouldn’t use the same comparison so many times, there are PS1 games that load better than this. If the PS3 version was just worse enough that it had, say, Oblivion or DMC3-level loading times, that might be acceptable, although it would still suck. This is far beyond that.
As for the ability problems, of course I haven’t played the game yet. That’s the point here - if the port didn’t suck, I’d be playing it right now. I may get it in the future, which is bad because I was dead set on getting it a while back. But I’ve never heard that the framerate doesn’t affect the use of those abilities at all and that they are just as usable in both versions of the game, while I have heard the opposite.
and there’s the problem. You’re arguing with people who have the game and you’re going by he say she say. Granted 1 side you’re hearing is fine, another no so fine.
you need to go bother someone who has the game and try it out for yourself or something otherwise you’re just spitting out things that won’t matter. (at least here anyway.)
Hahah, that’s interesting cause I’ve shown this game to two other people and they said the same thing. They both like it, it’s just SO CRAZY!
For everyone who PM’d for the hentai, I’ve replied with a direct link to the page from which you can download.
Then shut the fuck up. At least fucking rent, or borrow the game and form your own fucking opinion you tool bag.
I hope you’re talking about both parries - the regular one and the counter one. If so, that’d be great. But even if it’s easy to farm halos without it, multiple people have confirmed that the Gaze of Despair does cause heavy slowdown, which is a big gameplay difference.
yes I do and considering how there’s a fair share of people in this thread alone who have the 360 and/or PS3 version and still bought the game, i’m sure they can tell you (as they’ve already said from their small runthrough of the game.) that the minor problems don’t hold them back from enjoying the game. We both know that the only reason the PS3 version has outsold the 360 version there is because of the 360’s lower sales, and that’s all. It probably has nothing to do with accepting the PS3 version’s faults and everything to do with not bothering to get a new system just for this game. I would also be surprised if Japanese gamers aren’t also complaining about this.
So you’re saying that gaming shouldn’t use advancements in technology to improve performance, and that gamers should just settle for less because of lazy companies?
Just because I haven’t played it doesn’t make my complaints less valid, unless you’re going to tell me that the video linked to in the forum I linked to was a poor sample, or that everyone who complains about the poor port is lying or wrong.
It puts every enemy in rage mode, so they’re stronger, faster, and harder to knock around.
Hey, obviously I wouldn’t mind if everything I’ve said was proven wrong. But there’s far more bad than good going around about the port, and all anyone really has to say about it is “at least it’s playable”. I’ve never heard anything about the PS3 version being perfectly comparable to the 360 version (which I have watched, extensively, on my own TV), so it’s unreasonable to assume that playing the PS3 version myself, which will happen at some point, would magically change my opinion of that.
It’s less that your not wrong and more that your blowing shit out proportion based on stuff you’ve HEARD instead of EXPERIENCED. Your talking to a bunch of people who have played the game and using quotes from other people who have played the game but you yourself have absolutely no real clue what the fuck your talking about because all your info is second hand. nothing you say is worth reading at all because you haven’t touched the product. So stop posting about whats wrong with this game because everything you say doesn’t mean shit.
It’s not about you being wrong about the problems. It’s about you trying to tell people with first hand expirence that they are saying things are no big deal when you haven’t touched the game. To me and pretty much everyone else in here who owns the PS3 version recoginize the problems and they wheren’t a big enough deal for us not to buy the the game, or to return it after buying it. So no it’s not a huge deal to us. Now either go play the game and then come back with something to say or just stop posting. No one gives a shit about your second hand info.
oh nm. anyway, the load times dont bother really, it was done tastefully imo. letting you practice combos was pretty slick.

So what the general consensus of the game.
Is it good?
Better or worse than DMC/Gaiden?
I play the demo and it looks fun to play.
It’s amazing. Buy it.
