Yeah I hate to say it, but it seems like Tekken is a dying breed here in Texas sans Houston. Even here in Killeen there’s only a handful of Tekken players.

Man I wanna get down on some 3S :frowning:

That’s too bad, I love the Tekken series despite the disappointments w/ 4 and 6. I guess MvC and SF are the most played around here? I started playing Tekken on PS1. It was probably one of the first fighting games I had played besides the original MK. I never really got into SF or tried to get better at SF after playing Tekken/Soul Calibur. I just recall them feeling “clunky” compared to other games. Maybe it was just me back then though. I’m downloading the 3S Online Edition demo to try it out. I’ve pretty much only had bad experiences w/ lag on online fighters. I get it handed to me pretty bad in SF and MvC games anyway, lol.

Yeah I hate to say it, I play a little bit of Tekken, but I’m not very good at it. I was playing T5:DR for a hot minute, but I only used Bryan and Nina (I swear I didn’t know they were top tier!). I still only use Bryan and Nina now, but again, I don’t play very much.

I did play a bit of SC. I’m decently excited about the new one, I used Killik, and Maxi, with a little Seung Mina thrown in for good measure.

3S is probably NOT the game you want to try at first. The controls aren’t very forgiving, but once you get the hang of it, it’s a hard game to put down. The game, even after more than a decade, it seems new things are still being figured out for the game. It’s very dynamic. One other thing to keep in mind too, there are a few versions of 3S, so some things work in 3SO that for won’t work on the PS2 version of it.

I recently heard that 3SO isn’t arcade perfect though.

Tekken is a game I like even tho i suck at it. Didnt really get into it until TK5DR (thank u LIli) and been playing since then. Played with some guys from Houston before and I got raped lol. Still a pretty fun game. Kinda wanna pick up SC 5 too.

ihiryu, which game would you suggest starting out with? I have a PS3 at the moment. Was thinking about picking up SF4AE since I see a lot of things going on with that version. I know some people like 2 and 3 more though. With SFxT coming out soon, I might just try and wait for that after I see everyone’s reaction to it.

I’m looking forward to SC5, even though some of the characters that have been around since the beginning seem to be missing from the roster. I’ll be picking it up on release most likely.

I hope events pick back up in Waco. I haven’t really been looking for any and w/ the talk of it being dead around here, it’s too bad. Seeing some events at FX, I think there is potential to have a good amount of people show up if they can easily find the info. If I have to, a few friends and I will try to put something on.

Good to see this thread is active, hope to get some games with the old school guys soon.

My advice is to play what is popular. SF4AE and UMvC3 aren’t going anywhere anytime soon, so you can learn those games knowing your training won’t go to waste. Fighting games are only fun when you have people to play them with :3

wat up, brootal wats your main game? Im down for some games.

SF4AE is the only game I’m really decent at, but I play UMvC3 fairly well too. I’m down for 3S and maybe the new king of fighters if my roommate ends up buying it and I can practice some. What is everyone else playing?

Yo, sorry it’s been a few days, been working with the Killeen guys getting our tourney stuff ready.

Like Chaz/Br00tal said, AE and UMVC isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. UMVC isn’t as strict as AE as far as inputs go. So if you have an issue with DP’s and HC and QC’s then UMVC might be better for you. Once you start getting execution down, move to AE then 3S. Also, KoF seems like it’s making a huge rift! Lots of interest in it so far. I really like the game too.

BTW, I’m Steve lol. I’m actually a Killeen player, but my girl lives here in Waco, so I’m always here on the weekends.

Speaking of which, Chaz, you wanna try to figure out a schedule?

K-Town’s been trying to do AUFO every other weekend, and Waco every other weekend. Well that’s our plan anyway. What about the Waco guys? You guys interested in our schedule? The more the merrier!

This is what I’m thinking, AUFO, Killeen @ Waco, then Waco @ Killeen. Rest for a week, then repeat. There’s a few guys that play in Temple too (surprisingly), they’ve been coming down to Killeen to play. If Chaz is okay with hosting once a month, I can probably get the Temple guys to come kick it too. Also, the hotel in Hewitt is still cool with us for fifty bucks a day to play there, if Chaz can’t host.

Hey Steve that sounds good if we can get most of the guys down there so we can play Waco maybe they’ll liven up a little.

The only problem with that advice for me is that I don’t really like any of the new fighting games that much. I’ll play some MvC3 and some Tekken 6 but just couldnt really get into Blazblue or SF 4 which sucks cuz I was looking forward to SF 4 the most out of all the new games. KOF XIII is pretty fun but havent really practiced any HD combos or anything else on it and have just been doing basic crap from my old KOF experience. I just dont have the drive to practice like I used to anymore. Sometimes I would just rather play some of the old fighters since I know them better and even then my execution just isnt what it used to be. I can’t even do Urien’s corner juggles hardly anymore. :bluu:

I agree those games aren’t going anywhere, but I don’t play all that much SF4AE and UMvC3 even though I do own them. 3S sounds nice, I just got it on ps3. I’m open to play either, just need some time to get some training in.

Right now Im pretty much just getting the feel for all the characters, I am liking raiden right now though.

Thanks for the reply’s, guys. I’m going to take yalls advice and get UMvC3 to start out with. I’ll have to work on understanding the lingo in here. AUFO/HC/QC? Google found me DP  Is 360 the most played console here? Just wondering, noticed some talk of tourneys in Texas using them and maybe a few problems w/ PS3 versions of games on the Killeen tournament thread. I may need to eventually get a dual mod stick. Using a cheapo SC4 Hori. Looking at the Qanba Q4RAF.

If anyone is on PSN, feel free to add me: "Bone_Havoc"
Maybe I can learn a thing for two. I mostly play w/ friends and family in person. I’ve kinda been offline with these fighting games due to lag experience years ago w/ T5DR and Soul Calibur 4. Been hearing UMvC3 isn’t too bad though.

My name is Matt BTW.

AUFO Arcade UFO. An arcade in Austin. HCF Half Circle Forward, QCF Quarter Circle Forward, DP Dragon Punch (forward, down, down forward). All these are movements in a joystick to do moves.

Well, we wanted to run everything on PS3 just to be in the “EVO standard”. We’ve had a lot of complaints about it, so we’ll probably use 360’s with the exception of KOF, and MK9.

The biggest problem with PS3’s is when they get hot. But it was only an issue with the fats. The slims don’t have any problems with long periods of time.

So when is the next time everyone is free?

anyone coming through to Killeen tonight? And seeing if anyone was down for games tomorrow?

Im trying to get some Waco peeps to go, but so far nobody wants to go but im truly making the most effort of all.

Understandable, it’s a forty five minute drive one way.

Lets try to make plans for this coming Saturday. let me know what you guys think. I can probably get my guys together, if y’all can. Let me knwo what games y’all wanna play, and we can even bring our own setups too.

Anyone else from Waco heading to the Killeen tournament next weekend? I’ve got 3 or 4 Baylor guys going. It’d be nice to meet up with the old schoolers there if y’all decide to go.

lol! man no reponse this thread is dead again.
