Battle of the Darkstalkers Collections!

I’m guessing it’s because they didn’t want to cannibalize the PSP release, which is essentially an updated version of Vampire Chronicle. If the PS2 version had all of the games AND a mode to play all character versions, Capcom might’ve felt that no one would buy the PSP Darkstalkers game. At least that’s my theory.

I don’t have the PS2 game, but I do have the DC game, and I wasn’t very impressed with it. For one, the sprites look like pixelated ass, and the whole thing just feels “cut and pasted” together. It sounds to me like the VS collection is pretty much exactly like AA, which is a good thing. I’m thinking about having my PS2 modded to play imports just for to get this game. I have VS and NW for the Saturn and I love those games to death. It would be nice to have my NW Talbain and VS Jedah in the same game again.

Are the menus in the PS2 game in english or Japanese? Is it pretty easy to navigate through the options & menus?

hopefully somebody (maybe even sony) comes up with a solution to play PSP games on PS2 or PS3. It’s important for us to use arcades sticks for arcades games like Darkstalkers the Chaos tower and T5DR.

Vampire Chronicle on DC is the single worst Capcom fighting game port in recent memory.

Barring like PS1 ports of the vs. games.

Seriously it looks and plays like total shit. I feel sorry for ppl who paid an arm and a leg on Ebay for it. Got raped.

Is it coming out in the US?

Probably not.

Worth importing however.

Yea…I don’t see a point in not doing it. Still, I’m not sure if I’d buy it anyway. How many games are, three? (excluding any update editions, i.e. ssf2 turbo).

Is the Vampire Collection arcade ports?

Yes. It also has the option of having all the characters in VS ala the Saturn version.

Yeah, three main games, I’d say. Five total, each originally an arcade release. Darkstalkers/Vampire (aka DS1), Night Warriors/Vampire Hunter (aka DS2), and Vampire Savior (aka DS3). Then there’s “Vampire Savior 2” and “Vampire Hunter 2”, which are just tweaks of Vampire Savior (for the worse, most players seem to agree). The only difference between the two is the character roster (presumably because the CPS2 hardware wasn’t powerful enough to run a game that would have included ALL the characters, so they split it in two).

Vampire Hunter/DS2 and Vampire Savior/DS3 are usually considered the best of the series.

The PS2 collection also has arrange modes, allowing you to play Vampire Savior with the characters who were originally dropped (Donovan, Phobos, and Pyron), Vampire Savior 2/Vampire Hunter 2 with a full character roster, and an alternate mode that uses separate rounds (unlike the continuous rounds that were introduced in Vampire Savior), and doesn’t feature recoverable (“white”) damage.
