Batman: Arkham City thread

Early adopters pay the price. If you’re willing to wait long enough, you can get
most games for a third of their original
cost.

so… basically your saying that the people bitching about this are retarded? “WHAT!!! you mean things cost more when they are newer!!!”

Naw not saying retarded. Just wrapping my head around the complaints.

yaw forget about what happen with LA Noire:CE and GTA4:CE.

old saves and trophies weren’t compatible. better hope that’s not the case.

this edition will be like $30 by Black Friday.

I’ll pick up GOTY edition near the end of the year when it becomes dirt cheap

Like i said earlier… i didn’t trip off any dlc cause dammit the game ITSELF shined so hard I was stuck that you COULD add more to it. So im not tripping on it. I dont think ill get the GOTY just get whatever add ons.

I am disappoint in the DLC to be honest. It is all score attack crap and no add ons to the main story.

When is the DLC release anyway?

Actually…

This has been THE INVINCIBLE SWORDSMAN saying:

Just sayin’.

EDIT* And it comes out May 30th.

Thats how I felt…I got the Catwoman stuf for free with my pick-up so its all gravy…but really I was in no rush to get any of hte DLC. I wsa tmepted ot get Robin and Nightwing…but it did nothing for the a tual ‘game’ itself. I still need ot beat the damn thing. I got to what I think is the end…but havne’t had the time or drive to go back and finish.

Well if Harley stuff adds story, that’s two packs of DLC that add to the actual game itself between this and the Catwoman DLC. Nightwing and Robin were I agree slightly disappointing because it was only challenge stuff, but I really enjoyed the challenge stuff too.

This is the truth with anything that involves technology. The rage for this is nonsense. You know it’s gonna happen.

I am a challenge map whore, so I thought it was money well spent. I would agree, if not, you are wasting your money. The Harley Quinn expansion is the first time they have done any story based content that was an add on. I think Catwoman was the Beta Test for this option, cause you can honestly complete it in roughly no time (1-3 hours)

I am excited for Harley. Challenges are good who just love the game mechanics. It add replay value, but it definitely is a waste for getting into the story side of things. I will say I have put many hours into this game, so for me, it’s money well spent.

I hope they don’t do this. The trophies seem to be cross compatible. If they do it, I hope its like Borderlands. It’s a reprinted case, with the same disc and the DLC vouchers for the other content.

Last games i didn’t even mind payin for extra ish was Red Dead Redemption and Forza… ive put TONS of hours into them so i never even mind.

long as they are not announcing new ish then a few months later a whole new game.

Quit BS’n, you KNOW you’d like a new Batman game

Oh without a doubt. Yet I wouldn’t be upset if they did… they satisfied me fully (it would . Note my stance when SFxTekken dropped. I didn’t buy it cause I was oky doked by SF4…no only game wise but all the add ons that ment nothing (i still have VANILLA cause ono promised goodies remember)… you got me once never again. So on that I WILL wait an happy I have… ask Qrazy how she felt when she got the MvC 3 grand package only 8-9 months later a whole new game drops an she was left in the dust. Trust we learned our lessons lol…

sorry but rocksteady gave me a game that WITHOUT the dlc/extras I was satisfied… hell i remember majority of us from arkham asylum wonder what more could be done… im seeing now i put more faith in dlc an such with my solo adventurous games than fighting games.

Truth. I only own OG SFIV and MvC3. I felt burned shortly after buying both. I stepped off the conveyer. Still waiting on the promise-it’s-not coming next installment of SFxT.

While I hear, I’m sort of the opposite. I refuse to buy most solo games when they first drop because the cost is simply too high. I’m not paying 60 bones for a game that I’ll beat once, and only play thru maybe halfway again or go thru non-cannon story challenges mode - half-way - because I paid money for it, not because I want to. For me I’m one of the folks that wasn’t upset in the slightest about UMvC3…at the eygouging price that was Jill and Shuma gorath - I couldn’t stomach 'additional characters, and feeling sa though I HAD to get them to stay competitive. UMvC3 was cheaper than doing it the DLC way…so I had absolutely no heartburn on that. SF4 had no character DLC…and I only got one costume pack (X-Box Gief!), but that game didn’t need any level of DLC…costumes are superfluous.

But back to my original point, the only reason I am happy iwth Batman AA - is because I got 1 & 2 and the Catwoman DLC for $60 (thanx SRK). I think I’ve logged like 8 hours on AA - I’m t the point where the operation has begun…and I fugre I’m an hour and change from being done. Then I NEED DLC to have a reason to bust open the game again. so I see you and understand where you’re coming from, but its the opposite for me - fighting games have 900x more replay value out the box (even with DLC chars) than an adventure game like GTA or God of War…I’m one of those ‘beat it once…what’s the point of doing it again’ kind of guys. Even ramping up difficulty - its usually just more of the same, only half the cool shit you have to re-unlock or you’ve mastered to the point that even on hard you DESTROY and steamroll. So I’m HAPPY for the DLC, I do like the game, really do and want to keep playing it - but once I’ve beat it…I’ve got too many other games and too many other things to do, than to ‘force myself’ to replay something I’ve already done.

I am with you. This is the first game I have bought in a while that can stand alone, without the DLC.

Who the hell wouldn’t :lol"

I don’t think a fighting game will ever implement DLC correctly. Outside of adding a feature that isn’t really standard, only an additional character will make the difference. However, all you do is interface with different characters as that’s what fighting games do. Only real potential add on is the virtual costumes. With adventure games, you can get “content”: new modes, levels, additions to the story, etc. There are just better ways to leverage additions to action games where fighting games simply just change the character, but the general objective for the game remains the same (BEAT THAT ASS INTO SUBMISSION).

SFIV has made me never want to buy a collectors edition again, as well as never buy a Capcom published fighting game upon initial release. In both SFIV and MvC3, the UBERTACULAR versions could have easily been DLC. They could have easily futurecasted these games. The other thing is that you need to stay current with all characters to know your matchups. Can’t do that with a post game add on model

Truth.com
The point of the genres is different, so DLC will be different. Adventure games aren’t really competition, its content laden. Its hard to do DLC (conceptually) for a fighting game that doesn’t ‘break’ the community up. Adding characters means everyone has to get them or risk not being able to practice the match-up. Costumes are frivilous. Moves would be a nightmare. Shadow Packs were frowned upon (though I admit thats prolly the best use of them conceptually). DLC advantages are the gem situation in SFxT. IMO SSF4 actually did it right, where the actual content changes were made as a ‘whole’. Yes Super could have been done as DLC, but then we’d have issues with people having the DLC or not. It added what 10 characters…so thats like $4 a character. whoop de- doo. Characters ARE the content in a fighting game.

I’ve digressed too far from the topic. Moar reason to play Batman. I wish I could get these devs to do some more comic book adaptations/keep the engine/ball going.

I’d say this is one of the best uses of a licensed property in a game we’ve seen in a while (Transformers: WFC comes to mind as well).
