That said, I’ve no opinion on the shooting outside of what RoninChaos said: it’s business as usual. Not all cops are corrupt, but too many of them are and too few of them get punished for it. That pretty much goes for a lot of institutions, though; it’s just that cops are most egregious because they’re authorized to use lethal force.

I don’t really have an opinion on the matter otherwise since I’ve been intentionally trying to ignore it as either side is too emotional or too full of bullshit. That does not a make a good situation.

I guess the only left to say that is even if this guy did get convicted, he most likely wouldn’t get the death penalty; right now, the death penalty has been halted in California (and probably some other states) for at least the past three years because of some nancy bitch crying foul with regards to the 8th Amendment.

(Yes, I understand that some people are on death row/in jail wrongfully; it doesn’t mean the ones that are rightly there should get to die humanely, but I also understand that you can’t just appeal the Constituion to certain things…or at least that you couldn’t.)

Sigh. Humans will forever be incapable of justice.

I’'m sorry the young man was killed. However, I don’t think that the jury thought too much about the message they were sending. Now people can be compensated for the value of companionshiip? Who is to say that Mr Pleasance even LIKED his family. All people with learning disabilities aren’t loving. 12 million dollaars is excessive. I hope the city DOES appeal that verdict. I think all his family is due is the amount they spent for the expenses surrounding his death, including any doctor visits for any stress caused by the situation. I rode the BART tonight I was delayed numerous times because of this. I heard from a BART cop too no less… They were vandalizing cars and setting shit on fire Fruitvale and Lake Merritt got shut down quick. I think the Warriors were playing the Lakers today to so that didn’t help congestion.

A fire was lit in a dumpster on wheels that was rolled into the middle of the street and swarmed a police car that was nearly tipped over as the angry protestors beat on the vehicle with sticks and rocked it violently back and forth**.

Anyone think of the 1st Police Academy movie when they read this?

What kills me (no pun intended), is that cops are willing to be so brutal in this day and age. No, this isn’t having to do with respecting the law and order they are supposed to serve. I don’t have problem with protests (other than thinking that most of the time they’re utterly ineffectual). Like I said, I walk, I don’t drive, so I don’t really get caught in traffic. I’d laugh you at likening to this some MLK Jr. protest if it weren’t so damned sad.

What I’m afraid of is enough jackasses causing a riot to endanger my safety and the safety of others just because they use this as an excuse to act like jackasses, thinking their constant chanting of “Fuck the police!” means their right to do whatever they want. Oakland’s bad enough as it is. I would rather not have it get worse, especially since finding another job on such short notice wouldn’t exactly be easy even if I was considering such a drastic solution.

It’s downtown Oakland. The only thing around there are food places, Walgreens and clubs.

The biggest electronics place I can remember seeing is the Sprint store, which I’ve never been in (since they aren’t my cell phone provider).
