If you’re getting thrown out of Dash punches, my advice is to move back before executing. I know that TAP is relatively easy to throw (startup), but most of the other Dashes should be used at a better distance. Unless you’re saying it’s happening elsewhere too…? :xeye:
You’re friend is throwing you out of your rushes? Seems like your spacing is way off.
edit: Using the wrong strength is part of it. The harder the punch/kick, the farther it goes but also the longer it takes. So using a hp rush straight from point blank will give your opponent all the time in the world to hit/throw you out of it.
i’m getting thrown when i whip out anywhere. close, mid-screen, etc.
i usually play gief, i just started playing rog for fun so i’m not too familiar with the distances that the different rush punches (and the various light, medium, hard versions) travel. if i adjust so that only my fist meet’s his character, will i be out of throw range? will this work with the upper? since the reach looks much shorter than the straight punch.
what’s happening during the rush punch is that my rog is up in his face when the punch is coming out, and i guess that’s enough time (and obviously in range) for ryu to throw me.
sorry if i’m not explaining this too great, lol
Are you getting thrown before your punch connects or after. If it’s before then your opponent just has good reactions and you need to mix up your timing and spacing, if it’s after it hits then I suggest simply walking back so your opponent misses the throw and you can punish.
it’s after the rush, right before the actual punch comes out. i’ll work on learning the spacing more so i don’t end up point blank into him when the punch starts coming out, but about that upper… since it’s a shorter ranged punch, will effective spacing still leave me in throw range?
thanks for the help everyone
Lots of really good info
This is my first post on here, I never knew there was so much really high quality stuff here. I have learned some things I didnt know/ or never thought of. On that note I’m stuck on Hard trial 1, just cant get it all to hit. When I do it right, the buffalo headbutt always gets blocked. What am I doing wrong? Im a casual player looking to dive into serious techniques and really be apart of this new SF. Looking to improve anfd train hard to work on leveling up my game.
It means you’re doing the move too late. The computer will automatically block if you fail to connect the combo.
If I remember correctly, Hard trial 1 is focus attack, mk, lk, headbutt? You know that you can cancel your light kick into the headbutt right?
I guess I have to get the timing down, yeah I try to cancel into the headbutt, adding that jump makes it hard to get the charge down.
I still cant get past level 1 on hard…I dunno what I’m doing wrong. Very frustrated!!! I cant do it any faster and have just the right time to charge but the headbutt either doesn’t come out or its blocked. Maybe I’m just retarded??? Seems like everyone else gets it on their first try. Well I had to put it down for the night. I cant win with him, but cant do this stinking combo!!!
Ive found that @ close range, head butt has armor break capabilities, i assumed it to be something like giefs lariat, which has armor break on the first frame of the hit, and any after that just hits them. i plan on doing some testing to confirm, but if ne1 else knows about this, feel free to inform me on the results
EDIT
also, it seems, if you hold TAP for a bit under an entire minute (unrealistic in a real fight i kno) it does nearly 600 damage!
all counter hits break SA.
errr
i think you mean REVERSALS
god never thought about this but…
if you tech a throw can you do it while crouching/blocking?
i never even thought about this. I tech throws all the time but i did it standing and holding back… never down/back…
yep.
an “option select” method of tech throwing is to press LP+LK while crouching (down or downback)
what happens is:
if they don’t throw you - a cr LK comes out
if they try to throw you - you get a tech!
you can try this yourself in training mode by using the record feature:
hold down so that the dummy will be crouching and just press LP + LK with a rhythm (you will see cr shorts come out).
then during the play back, you can try and throw the dummy and if you time it right, you will get a tech!
awesome thanks!
i was wondering does this also mean no buffering? as in using the same charge in a dashing straight for the ultra
i’m really new with rog. i never really played him before but for some reason i found him interesting in this game. then again, i haven’t played many games that have him in it…
anyways, i’ve noticed my biggest issue is when i get knocked down then crossed-up with a deep jump-in. is there any way of dealing with this? hb sometimes gets him out of the way, but it’s not safe really. i thought i read about TAP being useful, but haven’t yet had a chance to try it. should i simply block?
also, when i’m playing shoto’s, if an opponent comes in and i block a bunch of links i can simply dp out of it. can boxer do anything like this? hb seems like it gets hit out of with cr. punches. should i simply block and wait?
so i tried using TAP today, and that didn’t work so hot against cross up followed by any kind of attack.
am i looking at backdashing and blocking only?
i DO mean counter hits actually LOL
do reversals also break SA independently too?
Since it’s beginner thread, i guess you wont be too nasty on my ‘findings’ LOL…
you can actually FA in crouching position… oops… I think sometimes it may be good to crouch and bait a jump in when HB sometimes trade a hit instead of countering cleanly. Furthermore FA successful means a free combo or Ultra if you have one and could turn the tables.
Some Ryu who constantly beats me, they love to play FB and when i jump forward, they will follow and jump as well knowing that i have lost my charge. They will make sure that the distance is such that c.HP will not hit them while their jumping.
Normally i will block and that’s when they either
- follow up with some block strings
- try to hit low and EX tatsu
- Tick throw.
How to avoid them in the first place, i guess the best way is to FA instead of blocking.
Any comments ?
