In respect to what has been said and to everyone in the gaming community involved in it,
It seems as if now there are certain divisions among the players in Bakersfield. Since now more people are starting to embrace Marvel, there is more variety for more series of issues, confrontations…drama. I think this is perhaps the bigest crew that bako has been able to have involved in the marvel world, and henceforth produces problems here and there.
A very strong issue currently present is the division between “serious,” or “dedicated” players and the ones that want to play it for fun. I believe it basically boils down to what has already been said, “self-motivation.” It becomes difficult to accomodate to both types of playrs when people want to prepare for competition that does not just play the game “for fun.” The trade off, however, is that people get upset at the fact that they are no longer part of something they were (at least for a short period of time anyway). This is where division of friendships take place and drama becomes imminent… There is no true solution to this other than actually geting better, not just wanting to. I do not want to defend nor point at anyone, its just merely a sense of things happening. Its obvious that we are all not playing together anymore like we used to (and by everyone I mean all players). Yes it sucks for the people that are not invited, but its also annoying to hear how much they blocked something when in fact they’re faling for the same tactics they’ve been falling for. Its a catch 22 and its up to those who find themselves on the unfortunate end right now to show that they can be just as good if not better than the so called current “elite players.”
With this comes another problem that reaches a personal level. Since people get butt hurt about these things smack talking becomes a part of the game as an outlet, a rationalization. “Oh he only wins because this or that, or he’s cheap etc etc.” And its only a matter of time before word gets around and tension is built. Obviously this is bako’s bigest problem in marvel right now. We all have different skills and though cliche, we should be learning from eachother rather than to just want to beat one another “to prove a point,” something that I have learned the hard way. “The Best” sounds appealing to all of us, but of what really? Because when it comes down to it, it doesn’t really matter when we step outside the boundaries of Bako.
Another thing that is completely annoying, and I think I can speak for most on this, is when players seriously complaing during or after the match regarding how a command didn’t come out. “I was blocking,” or “super didn’t come out.” Acknowlege that it was your mistake and that more than likely there is nothing wrong with the stick. Bitching about it afterwards won’t make the situation better in any way, you lost and now you have to wait until you can play again. Simple. Now there are certain players that are the way they are and will not change. This is not to talk behind his back because we have all in one way or another have sai it to him, but Joe is an example of a wild car (to say the least). You can never be to sure how he will react or respond to anything and it usually leads to disrespect., something to keep in mind for evo.
It sucks to see this happening to our gaming community. Just a couple of weeks ago, I was practicing consisitenlty with Jason, seeing my faults and trying not to bring out psylocke every .5 seconds. It made me see that I have a lot to work on and the negativity only takes away from the game. Sure funny smack talking and ripping on eacother makes the game fun, but obviously the circumstances in between are geting people upset. I agree with both Jason and Brandon on the self-motivation / potential to improve. It just sux that sh*t talking or labeling of players gets in the way. I think we all want to get better and if all the negativity going around was focused on improving, then bako would become an up and commer gaming community to be reckoned with.
