Backwards Compatible PS3 - Which sticks will work with PS2 games?

I’ve just stumbled across this thread, which is weird as I’ve recently converted an Xbox one hrap kai 4 into a ps3 stick ( it was too good a bargain to pass up. £60 on eBay).
The PCB I used was from an ancient third party controller that was given to me by a friend. I specifically used it as it can be switched between ps2/3/PC input. I found out by accident really that the ps2 setting allows me to play downloaded ps2 titles.(Gradius V and Capcom vs SNK 2).
Unfortunately, I can’t remember what the controller was called. If it’s of any use I’ll take photos of the PCB. Might be tomorrow though as its 0230 over here and I’m up for work at 0500.

Probably a zero delay if it’s ps2/ps3/pc

Do zero delay make controllers? I thought they just do PCBs?

My bad I misread it, no they don’t do controllers afaik

Good timing PSN is having a sale so I picked up two titles.
Will report back results whenever I can test.

Yeah that sale is no good to me, I have every ps3 fighter listed on psn and the dlc characters except for capcoms jojo HD

I got alpha max aswell a couple years back but never got round to buying the vita tv

Ya that sale worked out for me and now able to test SFA3 per your request.

Vita TV I recommend if you can get for 29.99 bnib or used if you have a room you need a shooter or console in or would use a travel plug n play console. You can do a lot more with the same amt of money if you go android builds also the proprietary memory cards still haven’t dropped in prices =/
It’s ok for streaming ur ps4 games as well but video is downgraded to 720p and functionality limited to LAN only, wifi is too laggy.

@anzhar Ok tried SFA3M this week and forgot Max was capcom’s terrible decision as a psp exclusive. No local 2p in the game and no new feature for vita/pstv so without another vita/psp/pstv to network battle with they removed VS mode. Multiple DS3/4s tested with no problems.

Only other possibility is if PSNOW service was available on pstv. Unknown if the PS3 port is the same psp restricted game or if it has VS mode.

I don

Make sure your board has a Home button for the Resync.

Thats where 99% if incompatibility lies.

I just need a yes or no answer, will hori hrap Kai or black vlx work on backwards compatible ps3s to play vf4, cvs2?

No

No

I just bought a HRAP 4 Kai and it’s not working on PS2 games on my PS3…

Any advice?

Best solution is a six axis adapter, did a couple T5A years ago as my first time working on a hori stick like many of us here and both sticks have proven perfect for every job given their 1st party PCBs. I have to say that being able to power up the system from the home button on the stick and the wireless makes it pretty convenient.

Good luck!

Thanks for your detailed reply… Never modded a stick before, I mean it’s not a deal breaker if the PS2 games don’t work with this stick, I’ve mainly bought this stick for the PS4 SF 30th collection…

I might give it a go after warranty expires I just got this stick yesterday lol

No worries, just some food for thought in case you ever see a cheap case for the cause.

Incidentally OT, the HRAP3SA does work with PS3 250GB (2nd shell) on DL PS One and PS2 Classics. I’ll check with a 60GB BC model to see if the same applies with disc games sometime soon.

Thanks, I have an old madcatz te sf4 stick for PS3 which works with the DL PS1 games but not for PS2 on disc games.

I have a PAL 60gb PS3 don’t know if their is a different with its NTSC brother in terms of coding for the controllers. I know the NTSC version had full PS2 hardware and the PAL machine was partial.

But yes I keep that in mind if I get a cheap stick I can modd that…
