I dunno Carlos. Vdo and them are tight. But do they really get that far in majors or win? Eh not really. And they are the rare exception, especially vdo. I don’t get the roll argument. If you can roll, then its not a combo… what does it matter if the combo continues once you hit the floor or it keeps going in a juggle? You know?
Yeah there are lots of 100% Combos now. But it still requires xf, meter or both. Whereas in mvc2, only some characters could(ironically, the top tier). Same shit still there, just more characters can do it. And it looks different.
Overall tho, I agree with most of what you guys say. Different games, good in their own areas, both bad in others. All good=)
I am really only down for patching when it comes to 3 things.
-A glitch that breaks the game.
-Buffing characters that are obviously underpowered so that they can become viable at high level play.
-Nerfing characters that are overpowered to the point of making the game less fun.
The last one I think should be thrown around very sparingly. X factor Dark Phoenix, vanilla Sagat are among the few that come to mind.
But that one thing Carlos says rings pretty true to me as well. When it comes to fighting games, constant patching can really disrupt the experience of devoting your time to a game. It isn’t like patching an RTS where buffing or nerfing a few units at a time doesn’t often make the entire game feel different. It takes months or years to discover the subtleties that most characters have at their disposal. If the devs keep changing things constantly it really begins to feel like wasted effort.
But I do think complete game rebalances after certain intervals of time tend to make any given series much better, as well as keep hype up for the series. I think AE is miles ahead of its predecessors thanks to its rebalances. And despite not having much third strike experience, 3S seems leagues away from its first iteration. But as much as I like AE now, I really hope they stop adding to the game after the DLC so that the community can really hone the meta game.
For games like the VS series, which don’t see much in the way of rebalancing… ever, it seems best to patch things within the first few months so that people don’t get too set in their ways.
I just think that the otg combos should require a stricter window. Like if I knock you down I shouldn’t have all the time in the world to pick ya back up. I also think you should have the option of rolling on a knockdown like in most other fighting games. I know I know… It’s a new game but c’mon.
As for the 100% combos, for example MvC2: more like resets to combos and or infinites that took time to learn. Not just the top tier had them. MvC3: Everyone has 100% or damn near 100% relaunch combos that were discovered within the first week of the game. not to mention bullshit XFC combos.
Don’t get me wrong, Imma play the shit outta this game too. But meh it’s a new game so shit shouldn’t be compared as much. Just gotta wait and see where it goes =]
Anyone down for a trip to MGL this week? I still have some credits left on my game card but I don’t want to waste a trip and end up fighting scrubs all night (like my last 2 trips).
Would anyone one here be interested in buying a Blast city/sega bass fishing cabinet? Only one of the best arcade monitors ever. It has a vga in, is a tri-snycing monitor and beefier than a astro city cab. I’m helping a friend sell 6 of them and looking for any local interest before ebaying. They are all fully functional cabinets.
I disagree. The fundamental gameplay of a character doesn’t really change. You can spend time learning your character and when things get patched, you only have to get used to either more/less life or more/less damage. We haven’t truly seen any full character redesigns yet. Not like the level of World of Warcraft.
gow2 multiplayer was ruined from the start. the patches kept it shitty.
carlos, you can roll, and ever decide where to roll(hold left or right), as long as it isnt a hard knockdown. or after the otg window on a hard knockdown is over =)
you’re right, not just the top tier had them, in mvc2, but the top tier had an incredibly easier time to land their shit.
the game is high damage, so yeah, its easy to find a high damage combo. to me, its more like ST, 1-2 mistakes, and you’re done. It doesnt give you 983457683945 chances to make a mistake and still win. I like it. my main thing tho, more character variety, and most can actually do more than launch, magic series, and thats all she wrote. most of the roster in mvc2 didnt really get much more than that unless you are a combo video master, due to strict flying screen rules, bad move sets.
I know you can roll on those circumstances, but that’s what I’m saying… It’s too easy. Damn near everything ends in a hard knockdown = yer done if I can otg or have an otg assist. How often is a combo gunna end in other than a hard knockdown or juggle? Never. Unless someone drops a combo or goes for a creative mixup (which i really havent seen the likes of yet…)
I guess what I’m saying is: Traditional Otg’s from every other game are now no longer there. If I do a combo into hard knockdown or whatever, the opponent no longer has to worry about tech-rollin to avoid extra punishment. They know death is near. The window is so big that if I dont otg you into an assist or combo during the window of a hard knockdown from my combo, I might as well stick to training mode for a very VERY long time cuz I’m fuckin up.
I will be at GameWorks again tonight from 6-7. I didn’t recognize anyone there last night, but there was a rotation going on all four machines, which made me happy. For the new guys> I’m the guy in a button down shirt and black slacks playing Rog/Sim (and I’m toying with Yang).
I’m interested. Please post or PM pics/prices man.
I’ll have pics tomorrow. Out of the 6 on is mine personally and I’m looking to get $700 or $500 and a VLX for PS3/360 or or TE for the 360. I’m not sure what the other prices will be but that is mine. Just putting a feeler out there for now but pics tomorrow!
But in all seriousness, gonna try to level up my Zero so he doesn’t rely on crossups the whole time. Thinking about playing with a charged buster at all times, a little crazy when you think about it. I don’t like the idea of forfeiting a normal for it.
And Doom! Gonna start playing Doom on point so he doesn’t suck ass anymore. Y’all have no hope!
