AZ Thread: Lots of events! Read 1st posts for upcoming AZ tourneys/events

Just popping on to say thanks to the Devastation crew for running a smooth tournament yesterday. Shit was fun.

sigh. skeletim, 30down 6up doesnt mean crap in the online gaming world. you probably use .2% of that bandwidth in an online game. yeah you got good bandwidth, doesnt mean your connection is good, bandwidth plays almost no role in online gaming. im not defending mvc3 online. shit has a lot to be desired. but a lot of people’s opinions are based off their crappy connection, that im sure, they are not aware that it is crappy. they just see “i got awesome bandwidth, i know im good.” when that is far from the truth. Its an obvious common misconception.

I get great games, i get poor games… i win 85% of my online matches out 0f 900 games by doing the same shit i do offline. this % is even factored in to very strong players. if the online was horrid, i would lose way more. basically, i get more good games than bad. netcode does need serious improvements for sure(its more of a problem with the matchmaking portion), to handle people with shit internet(basically your average U.S. Based internet user has shit internet regardless of bandwidth).

and wtf, 24 hours later and no results from gotham tourney? you foos are slow =)

Robb will probably post full results but here’s top 3:

  1. Kyne
  2. Muji
  3. Angelic

Sorry if I butchered any names yesterday.

kyne? whos that? interesting results!!! wish i coulda went. ah well.

gs on 2nd jon!

Man I was gunna make a long ass post… but fuck it.

Edit Simply put: When money (actual entry fee n payout) is on the line people play harder, if it’s a $1 entry might as well keep it free (or turn it into a bootcamp with payout for beginners), which means it’s about casual games and gettin new blood, so stick to gatherings and from there promote tournies at said gatherings.

I’m on vacation all week so I’m gunna crack out on MvC3. Get at me online people.

Also, BBQ at my pad this Saturday (4 me n wifey’s bdays)… come eat and then we game.

Mag/Sent/Deadpool be very afraid >=]

Sabre: I definitely agree on the quality/quantity part, but the fact is that I’ve played many randoms against people from norway, uk, japan, canada and mexico and my connection is surprisingly good for such long distance connections. It’s oddly just the us that lags, which speaks highly to how terrible most of the broadband is in this country. My issues aside the netcode in this game is hugely flawed and people definitely take advantage of that fact and probably even throw shit together in training mode with lag set to it’s highest because they know their connection is shit and is actually HELPING them. Capcom has demonstrated they are willing to patch shit and accoring to the arcade edition leak for IV they have fixed some of the netcode issues on that. So I’ve got my fingers crossed that capcom doesn’t shit all over it’s core community.

yeah no doubt dude. its just japan development. they are so behind the times. capcom is definitely doing the best out of japan to cater to western audiences, except in the online department. i do think its sad tho that backbone made way better netcode with HDR and i think that company is terrible. but its a US company, they understand that US internet is weak and the country is so big. which makes me feel extremely confident that mk9 will have awesome online.

it definitely sucks with people that abuse lag. unfortunately, a lot of them dont even realize they are using tactics that only work in lag, due to the fact that these people never played offline. sad but true =(

He said his name was “Kyne E.” from Tempe. Seemed to know all the regulars, but I don’t recall meeting him before this event.

But… net code for every other online MK game is terrible except for maybe MK2 on PSN. >_>

My gripe with the online is the extreme lack of search functionality. I can’t search by connection strength and I can’t see who I’m fighting before the match starts. When you search for a lobby on SF4 you can at least see connection strength and gamer tag so you can have a chance to run it back with someone on a decent connection.

Also, I hate how the game returns you to the Main Menu when the connection drops before the character select screen >:(

Just a few of my thoughts

yeah matchmaking issues, exactly.

umk3 had its moments on xbla. but its a budget ass company that made those ports. and are emulation iirc

Thanks, Scott! The tournament yesterday was very well done, great job guys. GGs to everyone there and at the Hazmat last night, too.

Dana, Armando, this is the video I was talking about:

The little nuances in spacing that they’re able to draw on the screen is very illuminating, and helps me think about this game as more than a brain-dead, dial-a-combo-to-win game. And it’s definitely going to change the way I play Zero.

It was awesome hanging out with you guys on such a short notice. Thanks, serg. You guys need to come down to p town and enjoy the competition here.

Yeah, that’s a big part of why I don’t like playing random search. I don’t know whose connection is good or bad. The last time I played online before yesterday, I used lobbies so every time I picked a 5 bar connection I didn’t have a problem. I didn’t think it was an issue but I found that people have stopped using lobbies (at least on PSN) so I was forced to play random. I had some great connections, some bad and super awful ones.

well the problem is the fact that when you goto lobbies, its only telling you the connection to the host. you have absolutely no clue what your connection is to anyone else.

rofl, i just lost to a horrible player that just mashed lightning legs, literally. only move he did, and i couldnt move. didnt help it paused every half second. yay =/

I feel your pain. I played a guy who used iron man and did nothing but d+H + sentinel assist and the game lagged and froze so much I couldn’t move.

thats probably going to end up on youtube under the title i distroyed sabre
