so far i have only had about 1 or 2 bad matches online. i see playing online as a way to test things out. im not necessarily playing to win. but playing to test things out
Meh. Not a big fan of online on PSN, I played 10 games on my friend’s system last night for shits 'n giggles and got 1 good connection, that was it. XBL I have more luck, I think.
How was the Marvel 3 night, everyone? Hopefully it was much cooler and competitive now that folks have had some time in training mode.
And Ray, thanks for the shoutout for us Tempe folks…not.
it was pretty good. i was there til 3am with rick. i never play that late anymore. had some really good matches with dan. i learned last night that my team is very effective. dan exposed some flaws, but still very effective as long as i learned to change it up. i played pretty well overall, last night
I live at Southern and Rural. There’s a big screen TV at my place that may or may not lag (I think it has to do with cables used to hook up) so it’d be sick if you wanted to bring your set up here and get some games in.
yea very good games scooter. Love the backwards hail storms twice, in are matches.
I’m starting to really like Tron Bonne.
Same here i love that hoe!
I just like that all her normals do so many hits. Makes it really easy to hit confirm into bigger combos. And her moves are just goofy as shit. I am fairly certain she is going to be on point for me now.
Anyone know what the Stability stat means? I have a lot of that, apparently. And no defense, haha. Just like always.
I can’t get away from fighting games, even when doing discussion questions for school:

Had I been the owner/manager of the application, I would have insisted on a realistic load test prior to go live. Any/all QoS metrics during normal testing would have shown to be successful. Only a significant load placed on the application would have uncovered the problem.

I like your idea of load testing a service to ensure QoS/QoE once an application goes live. I find that even though some vendors conduct load testing, they do not conduct proper load testing. This can be due to incorrect calculations that determine the number of users at a given time. For example, video game publisher Capcom has recently released a fighting game called Marvel Versus Capcom 3 (MVC3). The game features online matches, but the online matchmaking process cannot handle the number of users trying to use the system.
According to Capcom, the high volume of people playing MVC3 at launch is the culprit for the poor connectivity experienced while playing the game online (Sallee, 2011). I have to wonder why Capcom would point the finger at a high user base given the fact that Capcom expected to sell over two million copies of MVC3 (Siliconera, 2010). If Capcom knew in mid-2010 that it would sell over two million copies of a game, I would assume the company?s load testing would account for a high number of users at launch. Apparently, this serves as an example as to why one should not assume.
Many of my friends have complained about the poor online connections associated with the new software title. People in the fighting game scene have been waiting over 10 years for the release of MVC3, and a 10-year wait is not conducive to people accepting poor online play upon a game?s launch. Therefore, I would have to say that Capcom?s blunder is a perfect example of lax load testing. If Capcom expects to sell over two million units of MVC3, the company will need to straighten out the QoE issues associated with online connections.

I’m selling a used copy of MVC3. 360, regular edition. $50. Get in touch with me if you want it. [edit: sold]
good read ryan. honestly, i think capcom just gave out a bread and butter statement. i may not know much about programming netcode. I think im pretty sure it has nothing to do with high volume of users. AFAIK, they just provide the netcode, while the MS servers handle the matchmaking bandwidth, voice chat, and other variables. Capcom does not need to provide any of this. They only need a server if they want to collect other gameplay data for future releases, among other things. the issues online is strictly due to matchmaking, which MS servers handle. It’s just a BS excuse. People are just failing to establish connection. My guess, is due open ports/port forwarding/UPNP. Thats always the reason for failed connections. They dont want to admit that they screwed up on the matchmaking and instead blame it on server overload. which is laughable excuse, to say the least. And every publisher is guilty of this excuse.
its simply the fact that there are so many different people with different ISP’s, different routers, different modems, different setups, wifi, and this game is struggling to find the open ports needed for various people to just simply establish a connection. GGPO, to this day, still struggles with this very same problem.
I could just be totally wrong. Just what I think it is.
And fucking christ, please add spectator mode, lobbies are just a nightmare!
tyler: selling the crack already? =)
That’s just not right
Nah man. Your work is shit. Oh BTW how is that MK9 strat guide coming?
Been stuck on this one mission mode for Tron for hours, and it only just now dawned on me that it wasn’t working because of diminishing hitstun.
X-23 is so much fucking fun. Oh, and someone please teach me Dormammu!
There’s a ton of characters I’m interested in this game, and I love playing in this engine. Though I’ll probably never get into Marvel 2, I think I can understand why a lot of people felt encumbered by SF4’s systems.
sf and marvel are 2 entirely different beasts. the base level of marvel is much more simplified than sf. hell the whole design around the marvel games was to simplify the core mechanics to make it more accessible(back in the cota days)
At first I thought it was CB posting on your account. rofl Damn German.
There are certain aspects of this combo system that frustrate me to no end. Anyone know why I can’t do M,H,S in the air after a Gustaff fire juggle with Tron. The air S always whiffs.
It is for her last mission mode.
