Crazy good shit by Latif, was fun to watch. Looking like i’ll be able to hit up Evo this year, and definitely looking forward to catching up with you guys.
Haha, Yeah, I do play them the same, and I do agree my offense is extremely underdeveloped. I couldn’t consistently do my options selects, many of the times I tried I either got dp’d or the sweep didn’t come out on the backdash. I think a lot of the lack of offense I did had to do with Yun, I’m so scared of that bastard.
As far as the getting in I think your spacing could be a little bit better. Try positioning just a bit closer, it seemed you were just out of range most of the time and I really didn’t feel any pressure not to fire ball. When you start pressuring me with cr. mp block string you either finish the block string and push me away from you, or push out the DP. Try dive kicking again a second later after a blocked cr. mp, maybe it’ll bait out a mashed dp, if anything the pressure resets. Just remember not to hit the divekick to high.
You probably know all this, just trying to help ya out.
navi fair enough. yes phoenix can die to that, but the only semi-reliable strat is magneto gravity squeeze. but even then, its really really all about random luck to even get that if she decides to rush you(which she will do if she sees you have level 3) cuz if you xfactor at the wrong time during her pokes, you are dead in a fraction of a second. she can kill you faster than you can press 4 buttons, then do dp+2buttons lol. she can just teleport behind you and fuck your inputs up. or when you try to xfactor into it in the middle of a blocked poke, one of the random projectiles from her normals fucks up your timing. its still incredibly hard. and even then, hes dead most of the time before d.phx even comes into play since he is normally the point character. the whole weekend, i dont think i seen a high profile match where gravity squeeze was used on her. while the strat can work. the success rate is still low. and since you spend so much meter anyway throughout the match trying to snap her in or whatever, the odds of having level3 is low too.
jam session infinite. ok thats cool. but you have to fucking hit her first. thats the entire problem of phoenix. if anyone could “hit” her, then she would lose to everyone. but thats almost the entire problem, hitting her is the hardest thing to do(blocking is the other hardest thing to do).
dorm chip. yes this works everytime. but it requires setting it up, which is NOT easy. and wont always happen, the advantage is still phoenix. the method requires you to either have a ton of meter and already have floating bombs out before she comes in(and she doesnt have 5 meters), or it requires her to already be in d.phx mode and she was on the bench coming in. those are very tight requirements. yes, she dies 100% guaranteed in these 2 situations, but the problem is, you wont always have this position. you’ll have this position less than 50% of the time you play the matchup. and if dorm doesnt have this all setup, hes fucking dead unless he has the corner and xfactored after d.phx.
bottom line, unless you have these specific setups. its still a matter of random luck to beat her, which was shown 8346583746587345 times this weekend. i lost count of how many hail marys were used to try and stop her. normally horrible strategies any other time, and bad in any other game, but your only winning shot to beat her.
and because of all these problems, her meta game is through the roof. her mere presence on the team causes stress to players. even if the player is average. i also lost count to how many times d.phx reversed ocv’d cuz their first 2 characters kept getting fucked up. shes not messed up at all… /sarcasm =)
jon: i think wesker + sentinel assist is insanely potent. i think its just as potent as wolvie+sent. the teleport makes it a very dangerous trap. and he can start the mixup from a much further distance, and mix in a command grab if done right. other than sentinel and a very select few assists, you are right, wolvie does benefit off assists better. his threat level goes down a lot when he doesnt have backup.
Just confirmed my evo reservation. Hope to see you all there.
Who won MvC3 ranbats?
I think grand finals was like mike, and dan
Yea, I know, just funny how he said it was all. I was like… “oooooooooooh” HAHHA
Anyways, help me level up Yang/Yun guys. Been waiting for AE to get back into the game…I’m on XBL as d0xic, that’s a zero, not O between d and x. Thanks!
Scott: About jam session infinite, I think they mean kill a character or snap Phoenix in, X-Factor, and then Jam session-ing the shit out of the corner to chip her out before she lands.
I think that’s a pretty reliable strategy, but the conditions you have to meet in order to pull it off are steep. You need Level 2 X-Factor, meaning one of your characters is dead, which translates to like 3 bars for your opponent. There’s also the possibility that you killed their point as well, leaving them at 4 bars. Shit gets really risky from there.
Chipping Phoenix is viable but unfortunately very specific. People name Zero as a good choice for having the ability to Rainbow XFC Rainbow, but again that requires 3 bars (one for each super and one for the snap), a dead character for at least level 2, and having to change my team order around to keep Zero second instead. Pretty steep requirements for my team. And Zero is dependent on two assists to get any decent damage. I don’t like having to nerf my team’s point like that.
Matt: Thanks for the tips, man. I’ll work on slowly pushing you to the corner next time, I never really had to worry about that with Ibuki 'cause I’d be crossing up every which way constantly.
So i learned something while being in Cali, Arizona is BAD at Marvel which is no surprise to those who have been saying that! The reason i say this is because our top players are actually ST players so they play the game like its ST, now dont get me wrong you guys get that W which is what matters but seriously we all get away with some gimmicky bullshit including myself. No video on youtube can make you understand the creativity in this game, you had to have been there to see what Reece and I saw with Viscant, Ruin and Fanatiq! I was literally mindfucked
I was talking about the combo. That tactic is pretty interesting though. Dante has a few other infinites. If he scores a DP+L or OTG then that’s the end of the game for Phoenix.
IMO Cali has great players that are creative and build teams that wins games. East coast people, I notice, focus on combo technology and tier whoring with the exceptions Chris G and MarlinPie. I saw a really good Jill/Joe/Tron team at CEO that took a lot of people by surprise. The good stuff is definitely out there, but it’ll take some time, lots of experimentation to find out.
What I noticed in AZ is that A LOT of people Xcopy. The problem is that people use what is considered the best instead of building their own team, learning the ins/outs, matchups, optimal combos and so on. It works in the short term but in the long run, it fails because the good players fight against it all the time. Not only that, but since all the technology came from someone else, they don’t have as well of an understanding of the team and why it works that way.
Team building is an important part to the game and so is knowing how to build it. Building your own team with good concepts behind it is like a living breathing being but copying a team is like building a machine. Sure, it might be technically sound, but does this player know why this or that assist was picked? Why the team is ordered a certain way? Which combo to use in certain situations? Mixups? Matchups?
About two months ago when my Xbox was on it’s last legs, I developed a new team, Captain America/Ryu/Dante. I wrecked this guy with it online and moved on to my next ranked match. Dude showed up as my next opponent and he stole my team! Problem was, he didn’t know the right assists and he didn’t have the right gameplan. I have it ordered that way because Ryu DHC’s from Captain (Akuma not interchangeable, but Ryu for his directional) and then Ryu is in a good position to bait an assist for Shinkuu Hadouken XF Shinkuu Hadouken. Dante serves as a lockdown and anti-air assist for Cap cartwheels. When it gets down to Dante and I didn’t blow XF, then I can fall back on easy XF infinites. You see, a guy who just copies my team would have no idea about any of these concepts I listed.
To be fair though, it’s not just AZ that does this though. Most people just simply don’t want to invest the time to learn the game. On the Wesker boards, I got ROASTED for providing only concepts instead of the actual combo. This was back when people didn’t know about gunshot assist. I provided only the concept because I felt that there was a lot of room for creativity and you can damn near do it with every character in the game somehow. Instead of being grateful and appreciative, they got hostile and talked shit. This was after I tried to provide something helpful. I came to the conclusion that they didn’t want to think for themselves. They just want easy answers to tough problems and those would have to come from someone willing to share without question.
Navi, I have nothing against you bud but if you want people to respect your opinion you should really come out more to play and put that mindset to work! You should roll to my place more if your console is fucked up. At the moment everything you post just sounds like scrub talk, you gotta put that work in san! <3 dont take it as disrespect please
its not that az sucks at marvel. its that no one has outside experience. thats the only difference, i personally dont think they are that much better, if at all. its just you guys are facing veterans who get around all the time and get lots of outside experience. you are mentioning a lot of people that have been around for a very long time, way before the sf4 boon. while almost everyone that went to revelations are all still very green, overall.
its all about being confident in your game. i KNOW i can hang with any of them. beat them? dunno, but im confident in my abilities that i can pull out wins. I refuse to believe our best experienced players are that much worse than them. fuck that. cuz im not putting myself in that category =)
I don’t take it as offense or disrespect at all. I understand the predicament I was in the moment I started Marvel in the first place. Both of my consoles were dead in the water and I revived my Xbox. It worked every now and then, had to add some fixes, etc but overall those problems was what slowed and stopped my progression.
It’s pretty crazy though to know that I figured stuff out, I tell people and it falls on deaf ears. The only thing stopping someone from listening is tourney credentials and video proof. I’m not just saying this b/c of your comment but it’s how it’s been when discussing stuff on the MvC3 boards. Later down the line, I see the same exact thing I was talking about and people are shocked. It’s like why bother saying anything at all? Sometimes, people do listen and they take it and run with it. I’d like to see more of those players. Instead of accepting the norm, that kind of player would go out of the way to try new things, see if they work, don’t work, etc. Don’t just accept that things are a certain way, but work to change that. Think about the problem and how to solve it.
I think the top players around AZ get away with that experience FG in general but do not bring that creativity to the table for Mahvel IMO. Now the OG’s blew my mind but the creativity the young cats had was crazy, alot of them didnt even use the DHC glitch and some did but i saw some crazy max damage combos and set ups, shit we dont see here.
I’m not going to lie, I feel like a lot of people here pick from a pool of like 7 easy characters. There’s like a bunch of dorm’s, sents, wolverine’s, weskers, dantes, taskmasters, and akumas. I understand everyone playing magneto though because he is fucking sweet.
^^ True! Arnold. Even moreso, you missed the matches in that one kats room (the one selling those SF character plastic crafts). There was this one Zero player that bodied Ray and Christian free. He was fuckin your boy DJ Vest’s shit up too! lol.
SF plastic crafts? That sounds like fernando lol. He makes necklaces out of the sf cast and they look like megaman.
I dont buy that. I have a unique team but im not creative? It may not seem unique anymore cuz its the only team ive truly rocked with since the game was released, and wolvie task may be commonplace now. I know im not the only one who had some creativity. But we see our shit so much vs eachother it becomes diluted. Is everyone creative? No. But you are right, im still seeing some cool new shit all the time with teams i never seen before from playersi never heard of. Thats thebeauty of marvel
Ray, Fernando is exactly who it was!
Pretty sure that’s what I told you after playing you once, man. You were like “You guys plays such different characters than what I’m used to.” and I said “Nope, we all play the same ones.” Zero’s my favorite though, and I play him different from the other two guys that play him here so I’m not concerned about being redundant. Everyone has their whacky, unique character and then they team them up with easier ones. It’s usually Pick your favorite character + rushdown character (Magneto Wesker Wolverine Dante) + good assist (Mileage varies cause they might also be good on point, but Tron Haggar Taskmaster Akuma Sentinel Doom). Pretty sure I covered 75% of our teams right there. Oh, and then you have Phoenix teams which don’t need explaining.
