Avatar: The Legend of Korra - Book 4

Stars a girl. Uninterested.

Don’t know why, considering Aang is in touch with his feminine side a lot more than most boys…

I can see skyscrapers.

EDIT: Oh yeah it’s a hundred years to the future.

Hotness. Zuko better be in this and somehow un-aged. The ā€œanti-bending religionā€ stuff is something I actually kinda-sorta envisioned in my fantasy ā€œAvatar 2ā€ drafts (though my idea was for a few anti-bending villains, not a whole movement). I guess there’s no point finishing them and sending them to the creators now…

No idea who Korra is but being female she’s genetically attracted to Dr. B. Don’t feel bad, though: being male qualifies too.

Ha! Like I thought, Aang lived for a while AND bending powers are paternal (maybe).

You wouldn’t be saying if Toph was the main character…

I think you’re just saying that because she’s a water bender and the last female water bender, Katara, was probably the most divisive character in the series.

It’s 70 years but yeah.

Yeah, cool at times, then just downright whiny and preachy at others…

Might watch it probably. But this character sounds kind of anime-y, and I don’t want to deal with that shit.

Actually, since she does kinda sound like Toph…

I guess I’ll give it a shot.

You might as well. What else are you going to do? Watch the Last Airbender again?

see… if there was anything about the avatar movie that i wasn’t really confident was part of the show was that whole drivel about avatars not being able to have a family. i never really picked up on it during the show, but the movie really wanted to drive that shit home. yeah, this 12 year old kid ran away because it meant he would never be able to sex up a girl, spread his seed, and become a father… realistic, right?

i’m excited. the soon avatar can get back to doing things the right way the better.

If she’s anything like Toph she will be fucking awesome. Not at awesome as Toph but still awesome.

She isn’t related to Katara, so we should be fine. But she is hanging out with Aang’s son Tenzin (who sounds more like Zuko’s son with that name), and short of a plot twist, that means he’s also Katara’s son…so we will probably get some preach…

EDIT: I just thought of something. As of now, it seems this uprising of Non-Benders will be the major focus point for villainy in this series. Which makes me wonder how much of a threat they really are? We’ve already seen what happened when the baddest man on the planet took on Aang, so I give this question…

What the hell can a group of non-benders do to the Avatar when Ozai, the most powerful non-Avatar Firebender in known history, powered up by Sozin’s Comet got beat down like a child by an Avatar that wasn’t even willing to kill him, especially since it does not seem Korra would have those same inhibitions?

I’m going to guess some mix of technology and the spirit world.

Dr. B innately has 255% MBlock.

I know, just randomly make an area enter the Spirit World. Hah, no bending for you!

I would definitely go for something techie wise. But hell even characters with absolutely no bending powers like Ty lee can be a threat once they get into range. Imagine Dai Lee [sp?] agents agility with Ty Lee pressure point attacks.

The problem is…Korra’s the Avatar. Ty Lee’s a threat…but when did you ever see Ty Lee own Aang? Hell, the only reason she got Azula was because she was busy trying to kill Mai (or is it May? I don’t remember the correct spelling at the moment). And if I want ultimate agility, I’ll take Suki’s. Boiling Rock sequence where she got the Warden was just insane.

A human with no powers can still be a threat. There are fictional, superpowered villains that would shit their pants if they thought The Punisher wanted them dead.

As much as I hate to admit, I did like that one facet of the movie: how the Avatar couldn’t have a family, and how that seriously scared Aang. Granted, how you’d explain that is beyond me. Automagic sterilization? Koh eating some faces? /shrug

The Dr. B esper gives +100 to all stats on level up and teaches Mad Sexy (Ted Woolsey translation: Maseshy).

The new series taking place only 70 years into the future mean Aang died pretty young. Especially by Avatar world standards.

13 (Aang age’s at the end of the series) + 70 - 16 (what I’m guessing Korra’s age is, since that’s when they tell you you’re the Avatar) = 67. Compare that to Sozin or Bumi or especially Avatar Kyoshi (230!?). Guess Aang’s time in the iceberg wasn’t free.

As for how non-benders could take on benders, well there have obviously been some technological advancements that could even the playing field. Plus, not all benders are on Azula’s level. Piandao could take down weaker benders with just a sword.

But remember, Korra has also already learned Earth and Fire on top of Water. Since she isn’t rushed for time like Aang was, I’m sure she took her time learning them. She’s probably at least in her 20’s…at least I would hope so, or she was also told young.

i almost want to agree with you. it feels as if it was added to give the new viewer some perspective to why aang would run, but i think it took away so much from aang’s character.

aang originally ran away because he didn’t want to be the avatar. he wanted to still be a kid. play around and have fun. he shirked the responsibility because he felt it was too much of him and the end result is that he paid for it. because all the airbenders get wiped out, this is a turning point for him that he can’t always be a child and that he must grow up and shoulder the responsibility of being the avatar,

but because the movie externalized his decision into something like ā€œi can’t have childrenā€ you don’t get this inner grief and torment the original aang had. in fact, his running away didn’t get explored much since his excuse was so convenient. ā€œi can’t have a familyā€ ā€œoh well, i’m out.ā€ you don’t get a sense of him being a kid that wanted to have fun for the most part, and its hard to show his change of character because his sole motivation for running away in the movie was because he couldn’t have children…

its hard for there to be any returns as a writer on something like that cuz unless he sexes up katara at the end and has a kid and puts that to rest, the idea of him never having a family is so inconsequential to everything that is going on. it’s like he gave up chocolate or gave up picking flowers on a hot summer day or something… it doesn’t matter immediately and won’t ever matter unless you make a point of doing so.

as i said… i think it was an okay idea because its something easy to relate to, especially if you’re a parent of a kid you’re taking to watch the movie… it basically said ā€œhe left because he couldn’t have kids, so instead he lost his entire raceā€. it has its own kind of impact, but i think they lost so much more character development going in that direction. the reason had 0 consequences and 0 bearing on the story. it was convenient enough to externalize and gloss over once and accept it for what it was. even if i liked the idea, it was just another example of things being simplified to move a story without any real development.

Good thing you get a twix moment with twix.

I’m excited for the new series, it’ll help get that M. Night Shyamalan shit out of my head.
