Ok! here are the entries for the 5th avatar battle challenge!

You guys keep making this happen, and I’m loving it! Keep up the great work, everyone! For those of you who didn’t manage to get into this one due to time constraints, those of you who wish to enter again, and those of you who want to enter for the first time, the next one will be announced tomorrow.

Once again, I want to thank Evil Morrigan and OrangeCat for splitting the prize costs with me three ways, so up to six people can win this time!

First off, the standard rules:

PRIZES:
1st place animation: 1 month of premium membership to shoryuken.com
2nd place animation: 1 month of premium membership to shoryuken.com
3rd place animation: 1 month of premium membership to shoryuken.com

1st place still: 1 month of premium membership to shoryuken.com
2nd place still: 1 month of premium membership to shoryuken.com
3rd place still: 1 month of premium membership to shoryuken.com

#1: No one discusses the avs until ALL FIVE judges have passed judgement. This is to prevent people from giving away who the artists are. This is not limited to the artists. Even if you did not submit an av, please refrain from commenting until after the judges have voted. The judges do not know who has submitted an av, and I don’t want you giving away to them that you DIDN’T submit an av by starting to comment on them.

#2: Judges: you are to pick your favorite 3 in each category based on whatever criteria you want. You will then order them from 1 to 3. Your #1 pick gets 3 points, your #2 pick gets 2 points, and your #3 pick gets 1 point. The points will be tallied, and a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for each category declared.

**#3:**Judges can feel free to discuss among themselves any aspects of the avatars they like. They may confer with each other before voting, but do not have to. Feel free to discuss what you like or dislike about any of the avatars --1 Restriction, though! Judges may not speculate as to who the artists are, as your speculations may affect the other judges.

The judges are:
Hybrid Fury
Master Chibi
OrochiTempest
shatterstar
Xenozip.

#4: After the judges vote, the points will be tallied and I will reveal the artists behind the avatars. Discussion is then open for anyone and anything about the avatars.

That being said, here are the avatars (in order by title…as in all the previous competitions, if the artist did not provide a title, I made one up)

EDIT: I accidentally put up an older version of “Shoryuken”. The one there now is the one the artist intended to be shown. The only difference is that one of the kanji’s was changed to a more common representation of “ryu” in “Shoryuken”.

Good shit this time too. Good luck judges!

the makoto animated one says MAKATO SF III lol

The SF character appearance count:

Ryu - 8
Chun - 7
Ken - 5
Bison - 3
Sakura - 3
Urien - 3
Makoto - 2
Q - 2
Alex - 1
Blanka - 1
Cammy - 1
Dan - 1
Dudley - 1
Gouki - 1
Guile - 1
Guy - 1
Honda - 1
Ibuki - 1
Poison - 1
Sean - 1
Twel(e)ve - 1

Amingo (?!) - 1

I was pretty surprised that there was only 1 guile, 1 cammy, 1 blanka, and 1 dan. Those characters usually get more love. Conspicuously absent were Sagat, Fei Long, Zangief, and Yun.

…seriously.

Makoto seems to be one of the most commonly mispelled Street Fighter names, I have no clue why, though…

I Know I’m Not A Judge

Good job everyone. You made it a hard decision on us judges once again.

I don’t have lots of time to make explanations, but I’ll make my picks for now.

Stills

For this one, I loved how they incoperated the text in the background it goes REALLY well with the sprites. The colors are very piquant, and also they portray the relentlessness of Ibuki, i mean even though she is a cutie…she’s still a cold blooded ninja, let alone that they contrast and complement each of the characters And if indeed that much thought went behind this avatar…it deserves first place. BRAVO

See Adam Epstein

On this avatar I really love when people INCLUDE the sprite/picture into the background, it makes it look sort of seemless. I also love how they included the slight glow behind him to make him stand out JUST enough. Also the overlay technique really helped on this one. The brushing in the back and foreground are really nice, although in the left top corner it looks a bit plane, but none the less GOOD JOB

Last, but MOST DEFINATELY not least. In this avatar I really like how they didn’t use the whole avatar size for the boarder, this really makes it seem like she’s jumping right out at you. Also with the background I find this really neat, I love how they incorperated slight artistic slides, with just a hint of old skool tech. My nit picks on this bad boy is that it would have really set the avatar off if the bottom half of her was inside of the avatar so it pulled the illusion further off. Simplisity owns

Animated

See Adam Epstein

HahaHAHAHAH! What can i say that hasn’t already? fucking creative as hell, I really like how they took the time off to get sakura to fit the background…the first time i saw this my jaw litterally dropped! Very, very nice!

See Adam Epstein

Oh god, these animated avatars always make me laugh! The sprites, AWESOME use of the sprites…Love the announcer sprites…The monkies are just too good. Lol Also how Also when the monkey shoots out the hadoken…fukk’n classic man.

See Adam Epstein

Wow, just wow…This one caught my eye from the get go. The color choice is beyond awesome…so many emotions expressed just through the color. Like i said before I am a sucker for simplicity, and you my good fellow have pulled it off beautifuly. Good use of space, not oversaturated too much. The only nit pick i have is that for some odd reason that boarder isn’t doing it for me :frowning: I dunno why but it just isn’t…GAHH!! but none the less dude badass job

damn there is some talent in this bitch, the q pimp av is some funny shit, but everyone has some very good work in this one. Av Battles are the shit.

WOW these ABC’s are getting better and better. Good luck to everyone. All of these av’s are top notch.

—::STILLS::—

Cammy:

This is one of those REALLY rare occurences where having a sprite and then a picture in the background actually works. The space is controlled well, the colors flow into one another, and the stock pieces work just right. Even the contrast of the red and the flushed out pink work positively. It still feels like it’s missing something, like a third piece of the puzzle to finish it all off, but regardless it’s the best of the bunch.

US Air Force:

Truthfully there’s nothing exciting about this avatar, and it probably would have been better off animated, but the overall usage of green is done nicely, and most everything falls into place without the avatar being a mess. The “Bomb Civilans” doesn’t really work though.

BALLS:

Honestly I’m wondering what CHANG has anything to do with Street Fighter, because the avatar isn’t even funny, it’s more of a cut and paste deal really, but hell in comparison to the rest of the avatars (and because of DG’s commercial still entry being put onto the truck in the background) it’s good enough to take third.

—::ANIMATION::—

THIS HALLOWEEN:

Yeah it’s an inside joke on SRK, and it doesn’t hit you that the shadowy figure is an actual flight of stairs, but it’s done rather damn well (even giving it a bit of theatrics to it) and holds your attention long enough for the avatar to tell its story and do its job, entertain. This would have won the commercial theme easy, but as is it’s more than enough to be first this time around.

THE MONKEY WARRIOR:

Awesome. It’s done so well, from start to finish. The space is controlled so well, the addition of the portrait cut offs on the top and bottom are a really creative touch, and even the edits to the SF title and even the emphasis on TRAINED MONKEYS is a nice little touch that just rounds off the entire package. Really can’t find much to pick at here. Is that Abu by the way? Haha.

INSPECTOR Q:

Haha, not bad. The pose is perfect, as is the theme, but I’m going to be a nit pick and say that editing in the handle bars and motor of the copter would have made this first easy, as is it’s more of a quick eye to notice that the animation and the pose work quite nicely with one another.

There you go.

And by the way, I’m still going to be an asshole and say that half of the entries still suck. Sorry~
