I’m down to battle my friend and jedi rival in rbs, but I think he would rather play against you. If he says yes then it’s a go.
Although I don’t agree with the way you put your point across I do to an extend agree with what you are saying here. I mainly play Smash and usually only post on the smash boards. But I just wanted to say Final Round 11 was a $20 venue fee and it was in a professional game center. So it made since why the venue was that high since it was in an actual professional venue in a hotel. A hotel has nothing to really gain in particular by a tournament being at it’s venue. So, they really don’t have any extra incentive to give you a better price or work with you so I understood why the venue was that high. When Final Round 12 went to $30 even though it went up it was understandable because an extra day was added to the event and again, we were in a professional venue so we could all understand why the price was that high.
But right now look at the situation. This event is being held in a game center. A game center has something to gain from a tournament being held in it. And last year’s final round was a two day event in a professional venue and it was $20. So my question that is on my mind and many of my friends, why is the venue priced at $20 and it’s in a cheaper venue? I mean, Waba has something to gain out of this whole event since they will be bought direct targeted customers and exposure from game players.
Look at any other tournament held in a game center or game store, the venue is no more than $10. But this is the only tournament held in a game center that’s $20. It’s obvious the price for the venue isn’t as much as the hotel was so why is the venue the same price as Final Round 11’s which was a major and this is not a major? Usually when a tournament is in a game center the price is lower so the savings are passed to everyone. To me, it looks as if the price could be lower but someone doesn’t want to a make it lower for everyone else.
It may be a regional or whatever but look at Final Round 11 last year. You had more games, a professional venue, and it was a major for $20. Now you have a regional with not as many games, and ilt’s held at a game center yet it’s the same price as FR11 last year. I understand it’s a regional but just because someone has a name for themselves doesn’t mean that they should charge as high as they can. This is just my .02. I mean at the end you can do what you want but me and many others do not understand this.
I understand your concerns, but it is what it is sir. I won’t put my all of my personal business on how much things cost to run a major tournament or a regional. I will say that if I was just running by-weeklies or weekly tournament then they would prolly just be $5 because the goal in those type of tournaments that you are talking about are no more than building local comp. They take little effort to put together or run properly. Yes the venue has something to gain by having a regional tournament there, but this is still a business and we will be using half if not all of his store for the tournament if it get’s too crowded in the tournament area.
I don’t know where you got the idea that game centers are cheaper to rent than a hotel ballroom. These things aren’t cheap to rent. Either a game center or a ballroom are not cheap when you want it for 2 days. The reason why most game centers have cheap local tournaments entries because they are trying to build up loyal regular customers. That is the purpose of local tournaments. This is a once a year regional tournament for SEB at waba. Totally different than a local tournament. I hope you will make it out to SEB, but i’ll understand if you don’t attend.
