At Neoempire we just had a huge discussion (argument more like it) about the lack of SNK games at our events.

Our last major event which included an SNK game, kof2002 on AES was back in January. But only 12 players showed up for it. Since then we have completed a ranking battle season at our local arcade, where turnouts were steady at about 15 players each time, but over the season had a grand total of 26 individual players.

And as a staff member i really want to help them out, and get more SNK games in the lineup at our events, but they aren’t willing to compromise. For them its AES or nothing.
All these guys are frequent arcade attendees btw, so the traditional Neogeo layout on the sticks is all they are used to, ABCD layout.

Now i know more players would be willing to enter SNK games if some of the tournaments were on PS2, since the ports are alot easier to acquire and let players practice at home aswell as let them play with their own sticks and whatever button layout they choose. Cause lets face it the AES stick while good for its time, just isn’t quite up to quality that all these fancy Hori and custom jobs offer.

What can i do to change the hardcore fans minds?

i know exactly what’s going through their minds, and it’s something new SNK players will never understand (im talkign about those that just got interested in SNK since 2003 to the present).

You do have a few options:
run it on AES, and have everybody bring their own controllers, MAS I believe makes controllers for AES, PS2, DC, among others.

consolize MVS, which would be cost effective, cause say you have 3, and you can always get different carts, for example run 2 kof 2k2 tournaments and leave the other one for freeplay for a random SNK game, say like garou, breakers’, LB2, etc…

as for ports on 2k2, none have made justice to the game. and it does affect you if you play at high level.

It’s kinda like the 3s strike case on DC. where you won’t notice the difference unless you play at high level.

other than that just keep doing the 2k2 tournament, and start doing study groups every tournaments, you know… like setting up a ps2 with XI on freeplay or different games and see which one gets a crowd going.

I’ve been checking a few sites (the main SNK ones but not seeing any real info) but does anyone have some good strat/BnB/combos for Yuki, NEO-DIO, Mizuichi & Marco in NGBC. I’m interested in those 4 (yes I know Yuki sucks I just like him) and wouldn’t mind trying them out properly.

XTG-Yeah Khannibal was trying that Kim BT shit against me in NeoWave if you hadnt noticed, but yeah I crossup blocked it…so yeah Kim has had that in for a while.I dont think SNKp sees it as a problem…hence having an actual PLAYER on their team would do GREAT THINGS!

Once again when I link to theads and stuff like that and ask others to help, its not that I cant but I wanna allow others to chip in on the teaching experience etc when know that they know their stuff. r3ko: I was having a conversation with someone in Swansea who feels the exact same way you do. I too share the mentality and am puzzled as to why the people who play 2002 won’t give other SNK titles a go. I’ll take XI over 2002 any day of the week since I like the pace of the game. Hell I’ll take Breakers Revenge over 2002!!

But IMO, since SNKP officially said they will no longer give assistance and support for the MVS boards, it’s ok to use emulators. They don’t care for it anymore, so fuck it :wgrin:

now, for SNk no longer giving support for MVS, that’s hardware talk, they still own IP’s, games, and what not. so using, them under emulation is still ilegal.

them leaving support for MVS means simply that if you had and MVS, or AES and it somehow stopped working, you’re now on your own to fix it.
