I hate to say it, because I’ve been anticipating this game, but the sci-fi element just seems like an excuse to have sloppy transitions from mission to mission and have a GPS radar in 1161. It’s not a bad game, but I think it would be better if it wasn’t for this stupid sci-fi shit and how it affects game play. I may change my mind once I get further in, but so far I’m not feelin it.
edit: ok, it’s already startin to get better…

Yeah I never understood why theres a sci-fi effect in there lol.
To keep things “interesting” I guess… but it’s hardly interesting when you find out the sci-fi “twist” in the first five minutes of the game.
IGN AU gave it an 8.7.
I’m REALLY torn on this game now.
So Gamespot’s PS3 review just mysteriously changed to 9.0 right now.
Looks like someone called out their bullshit.
The game got a lot better the further into it I got. I was pretty worried that I wasn’t going to like it at first, but the game play is so awesome, it’s impossible to give this game any less than a 9.
I assassinated the first guy last night, and I must say I’m blown away by the game. Some of the animation is absolutely beautiful but so much of it’s sooooo organic that when animations jerk or aren’t natural it’s so noticable. Other than that, no complaints so far. Much like 2K8 the animation takes priority over the actual models being animated so I suppose the people could actually LOOK a little better, but I’m still very happy overall. The ability for the main character of a GTA to pull off some shit like this would be <33333
At first I thought I was gonna have to walk everywhere so I wouldn’t draw attention to myself, but I realize that doesn’t matter untill you get to your mission.
Gonna pick up my copy in an hour. Has anyone else got it?
I just got it, but I haven’t even opened the packaging.
You know, it’s really nice to have a game and thread like this, where PS3 and 360 players can post together in harmony about the same game. I can already imagine the Nintendo people peering through the window at us with teary eyes.
“But… but… Wii would like to play, too.”
So far i’ve killed about 2 of 9 marks. So far this game rocks! I’m having a blast exploring the cities and getting into fights. Its so awesome assassinating a guy while he’s trying to run away.
Btw, the plot twist isn’t even really a twist. Since the game is rather upfront about it. To be honest, it works rather well. Not to mention the implementation is quite clever.
You have turned Wii hating into an art form.
So I guess I should pick this up then huh? I have it on hold til tomorrow at noon, but I’m sure the game is everywhere anyway. The plot twist/spoiler and the minor complaints about repetition made hold off. So…buy it first thing in the morning, or rent first?
Personally, i think this game deserves a purchase. However, i will say that the game starts off slow. But the pace does pick up.

Man, all of the reviews I’ve read placing the game in the low to mid 7s are full of shit. I put in close to 6 hours today, and if someone told me that’s all the game was, I’d still rate it higher than a 7. This game is the most cinematic game I’ve ever played, and doesn’t lose functionality as a result. The parkour is amazingly fun, I’m addicted to collecting flags, and so far, I’m very impressed.
Gabe’s review that some might have seen is spot on imo. I’m affraid some of the reviewers at the larger sites felt too rushed and felt that he game was tedious and repetative, when really, it doesn’t have to be. With it being a “sandbox” type game like Gabe goes on to mention, you can really do just about whatever. Game for real reminds me of a blend of Zelda, Tenchu and Shadow of the Colossus all tied into one.
Sidenote. Has anyone seen a flag that’s atop of a pillar (I’ll get the location later)? It’s in between cities, and there’s many flags in this area. It’s like an old ruins portion within a canyon. Anyway, it’s on this really high pillar, and I figure you need to climb up this structure to jump over to it. The heighth seems right but everytime I make a leap for the pillar I end up dying, each time. I feel scrubby knowing where it is, and not being able to get it. This is the first time this has happened lol.
Well, I haven’t played the game yet, but I will say that the manual itself alerts you on the “plot twist” on the second page (right after all the warnings about epilepsy and whatnot). It’s really just their excuse to get a GPS into 1191.
EDIT: Oh, and check out Penny Arcade’s second news post for today (Gabe’s post) to put some of the reviews into perspective.
I know exactly which one you’re talking about, and i’d like to know how to get to that too. I got the one on the opposite side, but other has me stumped.

Haha, while that could be true, there’s more to it apparently as well. It’s really serving as a good tool for story purposes.
Well I’m glad I’m not alone on it then haha. I even tried hanging off the ledge of that first pillar and jumping backwards. At times it looks like I’m gona make it, but end up dying instead
Anyway, gona crash for tonight. Enjoy the game homies, it’s nice to know ‘next-gen’ is finally amongst us in this portion of the year. I was beginning to wonder for awhile if we’d ever begin to see next-gen worthy titles.
Didn’t anyone else get the game?
General consensus of a few guys I know give it about a 7/10. This game isn’t sounding too great, but I still must try it out.
… No, I’m good.
I guess all I got now is my SMG… WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
On topic, I didn’t really understand the hype of this game. Was it because of Jade Raymond? Or was it the free running aspect of it? I’ll probably rent this someday, since its getting some mixed reviews.
