i still don’t understand why people are so excited / worried about this
cps III third strike already exists and is not going to disappear
in japan,where it counts,people will always play the cps III version
no matter how good / bad / altered / perfect this “new” third strike will be
for the rest of us aka third world :
we already have the playstation 2 version - it might not be perfect but it is a pretty valid alternative
AND it is designed for crt’s and doesn’t have input lag
the playstation 3 / 360 third strike will probably look like crap on modern tvs and there will always be lag issues ?
oh,but wait…you can play online ! third strike online = might as well play sf IV
maybe some of you think that,with the game available on modern consoles,it will become super popular again
i really don’t think so,because third strike is just not that type of game

Seth Killian is wrong about Capcom not restoring CPS arcade units (unless they changed things in the past month). Capcom of Japan still services pretty much anything that you can throw at them, CPSII and CPSIII, as long as it is the Japanese region (they won’t service any other region). They will repair, battery swap, and restore boards owned by both arcade operators and private collectors. So if you live in the U.S. and you have a Japanese CPSIII kit, you can ship it to Capcom of Japan and they’ll service it for a price (I would imagine not cheap with the shipping). However I don’t think it’s that easy for foreigners to contact them (I have no idea where you would begin to look).
And yes playing 4:3 SD games on HD LCD 16:9 monitors is simultaneously blasphemous and laughable.

yes,we had 2 third strike cartridges fixed while in japan last summer
you just have to bring them to g-front or mak or whatever
you can’t really send them directly to capcom (or maybe we couldn’t because we are not japanese)
or you can ask capcom asia
they deal with customers without third parties involved but you get the ultra shitty asian version with no japanese voices
still better than a dead game,i guess

Did they fix the Ken throw glitch in the 990608 version? If so then hopefully that’s evidence it’s a simple fix and they can patch that without fiddling with anything else for OE. There’s no reason to have game breaking glitches if their removal is relatively painless and has no affect on anything else. Same goes for the Urien and Remy glitch. Was that removed in 990608?
I just saw this…I’m pretty sure Mak Japan located in Akihabara should be able to help some private collectors on this one. My security cart died on me and I’m going back to Japan this summer to find out if I can get them to send it to Capcom Japan. I’ll report back with my findings later.
