Ask me anything! 3rd Strike Discussion

Ok so not sure if what I posted last is relevant.

Seems like there’s a phenomenon where 2 frame start up supers (like jinrai and Q’s sa2) sometimes punishes it on 1 parry super and sometimes doesnt. There’s also a phenomenon where Urien can parry punish yun’s shoulder cancel activate with low hp(elbow) sometimes.

If anyone wants to see for themselves, make sure to try it on multiple recordings and not just trying to punish it over and over on the same recording. (I tried both with auto guard and manually inputting the guard. Also with and without using OE save states)

If the 1 parry super against cr lk thing is treated the same on arcade then basically a character like Q can win the mind game + coin flip to punish. Doesn’t seem smart for ken to do it cause he has ex shoryu but with Q it makes sense to have to coin flip maybe.

What exactly does yun’s air attacks being considered projectiles do for him? Is it just a priority thing, or is there more to it?

Maybe you can continue with a reset juggle if you hit them in the air high enough and recover to geneii jin? Just throwing that out there, I have never tried this.

crHP is great for stuffing mid range attacks, that aren’t low forwards or coming down from above, in mid screen encounters.

So for instance, Urien has you pegged and you won’t do anything because you’re getting parried and he’s beating out your attacks. Throw out a crHP, take a calculated or educated guess as to when he’s going to try and stuff you, and then as long as he didn’t do crHP or a low it’ll hit. Trades or outright beats tackle.
It’ll beat out Ken’s far HK, I think trade with Chun’s stand fierce, is good for “surprise” Makoto dashes, Ryu neutralMK, basically trade with most of the good far reaching normals and beat out the rest. It functions, situationally, like Makoto’s standing roundhouse except that he doesn’t extend out as far so you gotta expect them to come at you. Sometimes it even feels like you can link something afterwards but that might be a stretch.

Hahahaha. Thanks for the laugh dander.

Cr hp to beat opponents normals, ridiculous lmao. most moves allow juggles after genei. For example yun’s will do jump in RH instead of jump TC because yun can keep juggling after jump rh hits them in the air unlike jump TC.

@WTF-AKUMA-HAX you only see cr hp used against urien (cr mp > cr hp TC) because it can be annoying for him to parry and punish. But even then it’s not that sick or anything.

@isotopez not sure if there’s anything beneficial about it except his momentum keeps continuing after a parry.
(Divekick can go through opponent after parry for example and he doesn’t float infront like outside genei)

maybe not related but yun’s air attacks in gj have some kind of special effect when they’re parried. the physics are different. if you parry a regular dive kick, yun freezes for a long time and loses trajectory which makes him drop more vertically. in gj, yun continues at the same angle as if the parry has no impact on where he goes, which makes it harder to punish because he will often end up on the other side due to the lack of pushback. the same thing seems to apply to makoto in tanden renki.

i always figured that it was because air moves count as a super if the character is in a super mode, and that parrying a super hit yields less advantage or than a regular hit

Thanks for all the info. Something else I’ve noticed; if Yun goes for upkicks as an anti-air while in GJ, it seems like it is very hard to get a punish after you parry it. It seems as if he hits the ground first and recovers as soon as he does. The same thing happens if you parry a GJ dash punch as an anti-air. GJ shoulder as an anti-air does seem more punishable, however.

I’m going to test out whether you need to punish immediately after the parry (probably the case) or if there is some recovery to allow for better punishes, frame data for GJ stuff seems kinda weird depending on the circumstances.

I already use it as TC, remembering he has that at all. & as a Tick Meaty, For twitchy don’t want to defend players who only guard 1 hit and press whatever coming out of guard, but of course on better players it becomes a neutral game again after they block it all. And no threat even if it was in GJ.

calm down laughing at players being lesser skilled since that wasn’t egregiously wrong and all theory, this time right.

Priority System, at the very basics

Spoiler

Its a Fierce.

That can beat Jab/Short, Strong/Forward.
By being a stronger move according to the game as part of the system mechanics. That will be in the thread up there for anyone to look up. Throws can sometimes beat supers!

It will trade at the same time, or need to be placed out there first/meaty to win against other Fierce/Roundhouse. Its a weird move with 2 hits with little range and a bad idea most of the time, but okay used sparingly right. Probably not against moves as strong as he said, like you never see someone beat a well placed/timed Ken HK with anything. The range to use a Yun cr.HP is not going to be where & when he uses his move there. or where Chun uses her far Fierce. He would have to be in their face, in range. Stuffing those moves, rather than trying to punch the tail end of it especially timing the far, 2nd part of it. If you are wrong against either, that’s huge damage since you’re stuck crouching.

Yeah, what I thought puts Urien lesser in character rank, or matchup problems seems to be situations where he can’t punish things as easily or sometimes at all that lots of other characters can, especially with charge being stored while guarding, then he has less options. I want to go learn more about that. So he doesn’t have to just guard and wait it out or chance it and take low reward risks.

Dander didn’t get in your way of posting better, more distinct info, so WTF. That seems unnecessary.
I’m only saying this since that post I made specifically to Dander, somewhere else, you jumped on as you don’t understand and you need to tell me. Dander replies to me, you need to cut him off even when I didn’t ask a question, puts me on the spot. Cool, other people can’t talk to other people on here now. So don’t pull me into that you and Dander beef. yuuki = sick, “King Kong doesn’t have nothing on me!” yo, we got it.

It wasn’t bad what you said to me but then people who understand even less, think they have an opening to shit talk people they don’t know. Following the pack. Then online weirdoes want to tell you about their 300 ping games like anybody ever wants to hear about that. A snow ball rolled downhill and got more stupid and bloated like that katamari damacy game. Nobody’s fault but just not checking yourself, and yeah being clear.

Imagine new players coming to this info thread, not knowing either of you & reading off topic shit talk and being confused themselves. ‘Top player = douchebag’ and they get scared away, not ‘top player = very helpful and humble.’ which is a better assumption to think than that 1st one being a stereotype. But yeah you do gotta put in the work and not be fragile. & its ok to clear up bad info misinformation, but that doesn’t take well when you didn’t stop yourself from crapping on them too, even if you think they deserve it. The only one who really deserves that is someone stupid enough to say Kuroda is an idiot. Since, when has someone who said that ever been worth anything?

Not trying to change anybody, if you got real problems with eachother. But none of us on here are young punks anymore.

tldr; lazy kid, learn to read. like if the post is for you or not. when has anybody cared what you dont read, you dont even care

Yun got a crouching target combo: MP-HP

  • Dander suggests using it more to learn how
  • Yuuki says after learning that, its ok vs Urien.
  • Don’t take sides. Pass the ball.

I think you’re confused dude, need to check yourself I think. I don’t want any beef with you but you’re disrespecting for no good reason.

Edit: maybe someone can clue you in cause you sound like you got it wrong right now.

who cares about yun cr hp?

its not good and there are many other things that would be better to do.
