Are there any good [or decent] DBZ fighters outside of Budokai 3?

I got Budokai 3 not too long ago [as part of the Dragonball Z Budokai HD Collection] and I have been playing the game nonstop. Even though the game doesn’t have online multiplayer, it’s still perhaps my favorite DBZ game.

However, it has me wondering if there are any other decent DBZ Fighters besides Budokai 3. I do mean “fighters” because I am aware that the Tenkaichi series are not fighters, but rather Dragonball simulators

Budokai 3 is probably the best you’re going to get in that regard. Otherwise, Burst Limit would be your best bet. That is if you could find it and/or stomach the lackluster roster.

How does Burst Limit’s roster compare to Budokai 3. I was surprised Budokai 3 contained one of my all time favorite DBZ OVA villains in Cooler

Infinite World, Shin Budokai ANother ROad, and Super DBZ are all better fighters.

Better than Budokai 3?

Are those games difficult to find?

Second Super DBZ. Fans bitching about the roster size and other players looking down on it for being a DBZ game made this one slip under the radar. Here’s some high level footage of Japanese tournaments for the game

Those games are all on the PS2 though, for next gen you got Budokai 3, Burst Limit and Raging Blast is somewhat playable too.

The Shin Budokai games are PSP so their easy to get ahold of, Infinite WOlrd just get it on Amazon, same with SDBZ. The last two are PS2 games mind you.

I no longer have a PSP, and my PS2 collects dust. I doubt if it even still works. Then there’s the fact that I would have to worry about HDTV lag [plus most PS2 games would look like shit on my HDTV as much as I like them]

Then you’re pretty much out of luck til they hopefully get rereleased. ALl the other DBZ games suck.

Though I have to admit, seeing that tournament footage of Second Super DBZ looks interesting.

Dragon ball z hyper dimension for the snes was also pretty good, I use to play it on Zbattle when it was around. On a casual level, Raging Blast 2 was also pretty fun to screw around in with my friends, can’t say much about how that game is at high level though.

All of them are balls except Super DBZ. It’s the only real fighting game.

I liked DBZ arena it was simple but fun and a mugen dbz I had you could kill any character with future trunks w/ sword. But it was just lots of characters from the snes mainly mashed together

MvC2

Tenkaichi 3
A DBZ game is about using overpowered beings, not about dumbed down gameplay like that garbage of SDBZ

Super DragonballZ

The best old one is Hyper Dimension. After that Super DBZ.

If you want a good fighter with more DBZ mechanics then its infinite World or Burst Limit. Both are better then Budokai 3 since they are budokai 3 but enhanced/refined mechanics.

Okay, I’ll just give you a rundown of some of the other DBZ games I mess with just to give you an idea of what you’re getting into:

DBZ Infinite World

  • Mechanics are much better than B3’s in nearly every way; it’s faster, characters have more options, more flexible combo system.
  • Balance issues. Let me put this on the table, if you don’t play as Goku/GT Goku/Pikkon/GT Vegeta/Dabura/Yamcha at a high level, you will have an extremely hard time playing the game. The top tier can fight each other fine, but everyone else has a matchup no worse than 7-3 in their favor, because they just have too much priority on their normals. A lot of the other characters are very good in their own right, but they still lose to the god tiers in this game pretty free.

Super DBZ

  • SF-style mechanics are familiar
  • Wide variety of play styles (i.e. rushdown, zoning)
  • Great presentation
  • Customization system makes it harder to get people into the game, as you really need your own custom to thrive in this game

Hyper Dimension

  • Solid 2D fighter with a varied cast
  • Health and Ki sharing a bar adds an interesting layer of strategy to the game
  • Game feels a little clunky at times

Also, the Mugen project being worked on is arguably the best DBZ fighter I’ve played, but it’s incomplete (only 2 characters finished right now):

Points taken.

Also, no mention of the Tenkaichi series please. As I have said, it’s not really a fighter but more like a DBZ simulator

Again, nobody answered my question of how Burst Limit has a lackluster roster? What are the improvements Burst Limit has over Budokai 3 if any?
